I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. 在文章中有这么一幕：玛格丽特酗酒成性，把自己的身体搞垮，痛苦不堪，阿尔芒心痛玛格丽特，捏住她的手，把它放在唇边，两滴忍了很久的眼泪止不住滴湿了她的手。阿尔芒爱流泪为玛格丽特流泪，为她不爱惜自己流泪，阿尔芒毫不保留的表达自己的感情让玛格丽特犹为感动，作者就是通过对任务真实的描绘和对爱情逼真的写照让他作品如此的成功。

就是这样一位真诚，可爱的女人，最后的命运却是悲惨的：离开了爱人，不久就因痛去世，死后他们马上催收账款和利息，急于拍卖她的物品。

Book Review: “Camille”

I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800s, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. Unfortunately, it comes back to haunt her and she ends up returning to that life and dies painfully and alone, but with the knowledge that she was a noble woman at heart. When I first began to read the book, I did not care for Marguerite or her attitude or lifestyle, but as I got further into the narrative, I realized that her saucy attitude was a front to cover the lonely woman that she really was. She felt used, abused and unloved, until the gentle Armand Duval came into her life and showed her that he loved her as a person and not for what she could do for him. It must have taken great courage for Marguerite to leave the life she had lived for so long, knowing all along that it was probably too good to be true and would not last indefinitely. And it also showed that Marguerite really loved Armand Duval for she could even change herself for him.

However, happiness didn’t last for long. When M. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. I think Dumass last few lines about Marguerite being the exception, not the rule were quite true, and I also agreed with his view that while her lifestyle could not be condoned, we as a society assume that all of these type of women are cold and heartless, while this may not always be the case. A person can make the wrong choices in life when they are young, and try to redeem themselves, but sometimes past situations prevent them from changing their lives, even though they desperately wish to do so. This applies to both men and women in many different types of circumstances: involvement in crime; drug or alcohol abuse; gambling; prostitution; financial problems; poor marriage choices; etc. And this is the fact, which exists in the whole society.

As far as the other characters in the book, I think Marguerite was right in saying that no one truly cared about her, but only wanted something from her, the only exceptions being Armand and Julie Duprat. Of course, the Comte de G. and Comte de N. wanted her body and appearance. The Duke needed to “wake up and smell the coffee” and realize that she could never replace his dead daughter. If he truly cared, he could have helped her leave her lifestyle without “keeping” her himself. And lastly, Prudence was a blood-sucking leech who used Marguerite almost worse than the men. I also think she was jealous of the fact that Marguerite had so much more courage than herself and someone truly loved her.

Last morning, when tiding my bookshelf, I took this book out of the shelf, and a dried flower flew away from the book. But it wasn’t her fault; it’s because of the evil of Capitalism and the hideousness of that society.

Suddenly, I remembered a saying: “Women are like the flowers”. Those pretty women are like those beautiful flowers; their delicate beauty makes people feel they are the miracle of life. However, even the God envies their beauty. It seems that beautiful women always have tragic endings. As we are normal persons, even we can see the hideousness of humanity that results in their fate of withering, we can at most ask quietly in our hearts: Where have those beautiful flowers gone? Where have they gone?

When I first began to read the book, I did not care for Marguerite or her attitude or lifestyle, but as I got further into the narrative, I realized that her saucy attitude was a front to cover the lonely woman that she really was.

纵观玛格丽特悲剧性的一身，爱情似乎还是那个永恒的主题。当阿尔芒有幸为玛格丽特一生中继那条宠物狗后第二个爱过的生物，天主却无法接受这个风尘女子的忏悔，给她爱情的道路布满了荆棘，最后还不忘给予致命一击。但真正扼杀了茶花女的爱情的人又是谁?是阿尔芒的父亲?不!他的驾临也只是暴风雨前的雷声。真正的凶手就是阿尔芒他本人。是他将猜忌的闪电直击玛格丽特的心脏，是他将侮蔑的暴雨打在玛格丽特的心里。

他对玛格丽特感情的怀疑导致了这场悲剧。正如书中玛格丽特当面怒斥阿尔芒时所说：“你，你不愿意让我知道你的景况，你要我保留我的虚荣心来满足你的虚荣心，你想保持我过去的奢侈生活，你想保持我们思想上的差距，你，总之，不相信我对你的无私的爱情，不相信我愿意和你同甘共苦，有了你这笔财产我们本来可以一起生活得很幸福，但你宁愿把自己弄得倾家荡产，你这种成见真是太根深蒂固了。你以为我会把虚荣当着幸福吗?一个人心中没有爱情的时候可以满足于虚荣，但是一旦有了爱情，虚荣就变得庸俗不堪了。”

阿尔芒的虚荣心，也就是对巴黎名妓的占有欲望超出他对玛格丽特本身的爱时，也早已为结局埋下了伏笔。他始终把玛格丽特当作风尘女子，而不是一个普普通通的女人。如果风尘女子的烙印不在阿尔芒眼中抹去，那么爱情也只是风花雪夜下飘扬的誓言，太阳一出来，就蒸发了。

也许这就是风尘女子的无奈吧，难得遇见一个动心之人，为他无怨的付出，为他无私的奉献，为他甘愿忍受痛苦，但是换来的却是误解，如一把利剑直接刺中心脏，而她只能无语凝咽。愁也罢，恨也罢，这就是玛格丽特可歌可泣的爱情。她的爱远比一座贞节牌坊更崇高，更何况牌坊有时只是标榜和束缚，而这位风尘女子的爱情却是热情，纯洁，真挚，奔放。

外国文学出版社1991年出版的《茶花女》，出版得特别。它没有扉页，整部书没有半页是空白的。翻开书的封面，第一页就是正文，封面的背面(封里或封二)就当扉页，封底的反面(封底里或封三)写着出版情况，封底写着作品和作者的大概情况，算是序了。这样的出版特点似乎还第一次看到。

前日观《茶花女》电影，以前也看了这本小说，感受颇多。其中男主角对于爱的理解，是一种崇高而伟大的爱，从而自己成为了很渺小的一种动物，诚如，红楼梦中贾宝玉对于世间女子的态度。

这种崇高而伟大的爱，是不能参杂一点一点沙子的，因而两人总是经常发生一些不愉快，这种纯洁毫无杂质的，在欧美的爱情小说里面几乎都有。令人奇怪的是，那时候的欧美对于有夫之妇的追求，不会遭到当时舆论的指责。

不像有些书那样，光是序、跋或译者序、作者序等等就用了十几张甚至二三十张的篇幅，感觉累赘而烦闷。有些介绍或评价未尝不可，但那冗长的卖弄简直就是让人受罪。就像参加那种拖泥带水、枯燥乏味的马拉松会议一样的感觉。读者是想看作品而不是去看作品研究分析或对作品褒贬评说的，更不是去领受什么教导或寻求指点迷津的。

一个人有一个人的观点，一种人有一种人的路，很不必引导和硬拉本属于这条路上的人到你处于某种目的而希望公众都该走的那条路上去，这往往是徒劳的，也是不现实的。何况，你自己可能已不想或根本就没在那条路上。每个人所走的都是他该走的路，不论那是一条什么样的路，都是他的主观与客观元素经久协商后一致决定的，并不是某一个人或某些人可以去指定而固定的。

古往今来，描绘妓女悲欢离合的爱情故事不胜枚举，唯独《茶花女》获得了世界声誉，在亿万读者中流传，享誉盛名。

此书的作者小仲马将茶花女玛格丽特的形象描绘的淋漓尽致，在作者笔下，男女主人公都有了真挚的感情，小仲马并不忌讳她身上的妓女习性：爱过豪华，放荡的生活，经常狂饮滥喝，羡慕漂亮衣衫，马车和钻石，因而愿意不惜自己的身体往火坑里跳。但是作者认为玛格丽特自暴自弃是“一种忘却现实的需要”，她通过寻欢作乐的生活是打算不治好自己的肺病，以便快些舍弃人生。但是她通过社会也有自己的反抗，例如她喜欢戏弄初次见面的人，因为“她们不得不忍受每天跟他们见面的人的侮辱。

这无疑是对那些侮辱的一种报复”虽然生活的种种令玛格丽特痛苦不堪，但是她一直想寻找真正的爱情归宿，对于这种受侮辱受伤害的人，作者要求人们给予无限的宽容，自然也能得到读者的共鸣。作者通过公墓的园丁揭露那些正人君子的丑恶嘴脸"他们在亲人的墓碑上写的痛苦万分，却从来不流泪"。他们不愿看到亲人旁边埋着一个妓女!还有的一些生意人在玛格丽特生前就大赚一笔，但是却在她临终时，拿着借据纠缠不休，急于拍卖她的物品。

玛格丽特对阿尔芒的感情也始终如故，但她表现得更无私，她为了阿尔芒的幸福，为了阿尔芒家庭的利益，毅然决定离开他。可想而知，茶花女离开小村庄的那天晚上，是多么得撕心裂肺啊!最不忍心读的是茶花女临终的日记。在日记里，她向阿尔芒述清了一切，字里行间到处可以体味到她对阿尔芒真切的爱。失去他，茶花女便觉生活已无希望，一切也可告以完结。于是，她放任自己，以至病情逐日加重。直到死神就站在她身前时，她还一心惦恋着阿尔芒，多想临死前再见他一面，却至死也未能如愿以偿。

还记得金庸名著频繁出现的经典语录：“问世间情为何物，只叫人生死相许。”又或是作者的言语：“一颗只能用世间最涩的泪才能打开的心，曼侬·莱斯特，面对玛格丽特·戈蒂耶，最终只有惭愧”。

最近读了法国著名作家小仲马的代表作：《茶花女》，连读两遍，意悠未尽。我被书中男女主人公的爱情故事而感动，读到伤心之处，未免掉泪。

《茶花女》是法国著名作家小仲马于1848年发表的一篇长篇小说，很快便闻名于世，四年后又改变成为剧本，在戏剧界也引起了巨大的轰动。虽然此后他也写过不少在当时颇有影响力的小说，但可以这样说，那些作品和《茶花女》相比，就像一片片点缀在美丽茶花旁的绿叶。

本书的女主角——玛格丽特，是个从乡下来的貌美姑娘，也是混迹于巴黎上流圈子中有名的“交际花”。因为她经常随身装扮一束花而得名“茶花女”，其实茶花的品格也象征了她的美好品质：高洁、热烈、忠贞不渝。玛格丽特为了生计，不得不在所谓的“上流圈子”里生活，见惯了贵族伯爵们的势利、虚伪，她渐渐对世俗感情不抱希望，但感官上的放荡并没有使她的心灵遭受玷污，反而她仍保持了一份可贵的像孩子一般的纯真。

这本书从上学期间就一直在断断续续地看，终于在暑假这两天把它看完了，心中悲喜交集，有几分感慨。故事本身有一些虐心，但是由于整个故事被叙述得十分流畅，使人很容易对女主玛格丽特又爱又恨，对男主阿芒后期因爱生恨而感到难过。

我不知道小仲马现实生活中遇到的那位妓女是否同这本书中的女主人公玛格丽特一样，也曾想抛弃奢侈的生活和小仲马好好过，我唯一知道的就是那名妓女是玛格丽特的原型。整篇文章开始是通过“我”拍买下了一名去世的名妓玛格丽特的书，而且是高价买下。而后有一名年轻人阿芒来找“我”，希望能买下那本书，“我”由于好奇他们的故事而选择将那本书送给他，并因此和他成为了好友，阿芒在一场大病后开始同“我”讲起他们的故事。

刚开始，我觉得玛格丽特享受肉欲，享受纸迷金醉的生活，尽管她为此付上了许多债，但她一年的开销任然高至十万法郎，且由于她的不良生活习惯，她得上了肺病，即使如此，从作者对她的一些描写中，依然能看出她的心灵还保留了一丝丝的纯洁，亦或善。从她后面能抛弃许多奢侈的生活同阿芒去乡下开心地待了6个月可以看出，她的内心渴望真爱，特别是在她尝尽了人间冷暖之后，更加渴望有一份真爱能来填补她内心的空虚，其实归根到底，玛格丽特并没有完全被封建制度所吞噬，从她后来被阿芒的付出所打动这点可以看出。为了阿芒、阿芒妹妹，她甘愿让自己在生命的最后几个月中带着遗憾，带着痛苦，带着孤独死去。

而阿芒呢，他深情万分，他被玛格丽特的外貌打动，后被玛格丽特善良的品质俘获，他愿意为玛格丽特付出所有，只可惜最后被人误导，因爱生恨，报复了玛格丽特，使得玛格丽特本就久病的身体再次承受打击。

纵观全书，这场似悲剧又唯美的爱情故事带给我感触，但更多的是对当时那个社会产生了冲击：贵族们以情妇的美貌作为他们互相攀比的标准，他们把下层人士当作一件物品，随意丢弃，在那样一个人心、三观扭曲的社会，能出现玛格丽特和阿芒的爱情和人品实属不易。

名著之所以为名著，大概就是因为作者能够通过一本书的篇幅反映出整个社会，从而使人们不断掘弃旧观念，取其精华，弃其糟粕，从而能发

在黑暗潮湿的沼泽中仍然追求神圣无比的生命以及爱情，玛格丽特便是如此。我们无法批判她的对与错，即便是错她也承受了无法与爱人长久的惩罚。我们应该看到的是她在恶劣的环境下毅然追求的态度，还有她为爱人所放弃的尊严乃至生命。

在红灯绿酒的巴黎，玛格丽特生活所迫，开始了卖笑生活。之后患上肺病而做了某伯爵的干女儿。在一次客人来访时与阿尔芒邂逅，经过后来的交往便因为阿尔芒真挚的爱情而放弃了巴黎的社交生活，与阿尔芒同居乡间。

阿尔芒在玛格丽特醉生梦死的时候拯救了她，玛格丽特满足了阿尔芒情感上的欲望。如果事情就此了结，最好不过。而命运并非我们所想的那样一帆风顺。阿尔芒的父亲责备玛格丽特毁了儿子的前程，玛格丽特被迫返回巴黎重操旧业。阿尔芒盛怒之下，在社交场合当众羞辱她。玛格丽特一病不起，含恨而死。玛格丽特是悲哀的，她的爱情不被肯定，她的好心不被理解。玛格丽特，你是否后悔?阿尔芒读了玛格丽特的遗书，方知真相，追悔莫及。我是讨厌阿尔芒的，因为他连对爱人基本的信任都没有，因为他对玛格丽特的爱仅限于得不到便伤害，他太自私。

爱情是神圣的不可触及的，尽管对爱情向往却深知我还小我什么都不懂，可是对于背叛却厌恶至极，所以惧怕伤害不去涉足。玛格丽特是心目中爱情的象征，因为爱所以放弃，哪怕结果遍体鳞伤。对于阿尔芒，他至少让我知道，信任是爱情的基石。我无法为谁改变命运，只好为玛格丽特，为玛格丽特和阿尔芒的悲惨恋情表示同情。

那朵茶花般的女子，在黑暗深处，散发幽香。
