There are many arguments about the advantages and disadvantages of examinations. Some people think that examinations can help them review the lessons regularly, while others maintain that too many examinations have frustrated them.

To me, I think an examination is a good thing for both teachers and students. Teachers can find out how much the students have grasped and then improve their teaching; students, on the other hand, will learn what their weak points are and then study even harder.

All in all, we should not waste time arguing whether examinations are good or not. What we should do is to try to improve the exam system and try to adjust it to our different requirements.

The first plane, which was made of wood, had only been able to fly for 12 seconds in the air, but it opened the door of the aviation world. I wonder how the Wright brothers would imagine such a magnificent idea. They must have some kind of dream----human beings like birds, flying freely in space----they attempted various kinds of material to make planes, finally making their dream come true, although only a short 12 seconds for the first flight! We students often have different dreams: to be scientists, engineers, doctors, etc. Like the Wright brothers when they were young, we should try our best to experience different things, for example, going out of doors to watch different animals, watching butterflies in the air, or watching fish in the water. With more knowledge in these fields, we can become biologists in the future. Generally speaking, we’d better make greater efforts in our studies. In this way, we can make our dreams come true, not only like the Wright brothers in the sky, but also like Yang Liwei in outer space.

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar。 As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC—AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance。

This days important activity is watching lanterns。 Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC—AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China。 One emperor heard that Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month。

So he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to show respect to Buddha on this day。 Later, the Buddhist rite developed into a grand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the Central Plains to the whole of China。

Till today, the lantern festival is still held each year around the country。 Lanterns of various shapes and sizes are hung in the streets, attracting countless visitors。 Children will hold self—made or bought lanterns to stroll with on the streets, extremely excited。 "Guessing lantern riddles"is an essential part of the Festival。

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns。 If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answer。 If they are right, they will get a little gift。

The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960—1279)。 As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata。

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also called the "Yuanxiao Festival。"Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan。 It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling。

Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed。 It tastes sweet and delicious。 What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning reunion。 So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the family。 joozone。com

In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and beating drums while dancing will be staged。 On the night, except for magnificent lanterns, fireworks form a beautiful scene。

Most families spare some fireworks from the Spring Festival and let them off in the Lantern Festival。 Some local governments will even organize a fireworks party。

On the night when the first full moon enters the New Year, people become really intoxicated by the imposing fireworks and bright moon in the sky。

The way people hold the belief that a fun-filled, pain-free lifestyle

equals happiness actually reduces their chances of ever obtaining real

happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal to happiness, then pain must be equal to

unhappiness. But in fact, the opposite is true: more often than not things that

lead to happiness contain some pain.

As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of true

happiness. They fear the pain inevitably (不可避免地) brought by such things as

marriage,raising children,professional achievement, religious commitment,

self-improvement.

Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be

less and less satisfying. If he is honest,he will tell you that he is afraid of

making a commitment, for commitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is

filled with fun, adventure and excitement.Marriage has such moments, but they are

not its most distinguishing features.

Couples, with infant children, are lucky to get a whole nights sleep of a

three-day vacation. We dont know any parent who would choose the word fun to

describe raising children. But couples that decide not to have children ever

know the joys of watching a child grow up or playing with a grandchild.

Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun

is one of the most liberating realizations. It liberates time: now we can devote

more hours to activities that can really increase our happiness. It liberates

money:buying that new car or those fancy clothes to increase our happiness now

seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy:we now understand that all those

who always have so much fun actually may not be happy at all.

When it comes to November 11, what’s on your mind? Well, as to the old

generations, it’s only an ordinary day; however, the young generations will

consider it as the Singles’ Day as well as the on-line shopping carnival. In

fact, on November 11th, 2013, Tmall and Taobao (the biggest Chinese online

shopping platform) has sold out more than 35 billion Yuan goods, this data has

astonished the media at home and abroad. Apparently, people have more interests

on cyber shopping than spend the night with their single friends. Some home

media even suggest that November 11th should be the Chinese on-line shopping

carnival.

In 2010, Jack Ma, the CEO of Tmall and Taobao, had coined the term “Double

Eleven”, aimed to encourage the single people to do something to celebrate their

own festival. Instead of dating lovers, people go on-line shopping to relive the

loneliness. According to the survey, China had 564 million Internet users at the

end of last year and 180 million single people. And the single people are the

main force of the China’s spending power. The debut was a great success. Then

“11.11” has an unusual meaning, which stands for on-line shopping carnival.

Comparing with the traditional shopping, the cyber shopping has more

distinguish features, which quite fit the young generations’ taste. People do

not need to go outside, just click their mouse, the goods will be home. The best

part is you can do it anywhere, anytime. All you need is a credit card. What we

can predict in the future is that on-line shopping is not going to fade away,

instead, it will boost like the mushrooms after spring rains.

As is shown in the picture, two men had a big dinner in a restaurant, but much of the food was left and some was even untouched at all. When the waitress asked them to pack the remaining food, they felt very surprised, thinking that it was unbelievable for them to do things like that with too much money in their pocket.

It is a pity that many people act like the two men in the picture. In my view, we should pack the leftovers when we have meals outside. As we all know, saving is a fine tradition for our Chinese people and therefore we shouldn’t waste a bit food. Also, there is not enough food in the world and there are many people starving. In addition, we students should form the habit of saving food and give away some to the people in need. Finally, we have the responsibility to help people around us realize the importance of saving.

Only in this way can we build up an economized society and live a happy and healthy life.
