在《家》中，小说的很多主人公还是在封建制度的重压之下，喘息困难，甚至被封建势力夺去了花儿般的生命。到了《春》中，高家的少爷小姐们，多数有了反抗的意识，不再被封建的势力所左右了，他们有自己的想法，他们更有自己的行为方式。

回顾《春》这部小说，表面看上去模模糊糊一大片，其实细读，主要的有以下三条主线在不断地发展中。第一条，蕙表姐被其父周伯涛强行许配给性格古怪的郑家少爷，在没有成亲之前，蕙是终日担心的。可是既定的事实未能改变，蕙嫁入郑家，最后被迫害致死。第二条，高淑英被其父高克明责令许给陈克家的儿子，一个吃喝嫖赌的公子哥儿。淑英也是始终惶惶不可终日的，由于在琴表姐、觉新和觉民等的帮助下，淑英成功逃脱了。她为了逃婚，跑向了上海，投奔了三哥觉慧。第三条，自从代表封建最高势力的高老太爷病逝后，高家大院，也就是这个封建社会的缩影或者是代表，一直是走向衰亡的。佣人之间的争吵，四老爷和奶妈之间的荒.唐事，五老爷将丫鬟收房，佣人对三老爷的不敬与反叛，所有的这些，不都是表明了封建势力的逐渐削弱吗?不都表明了春天正在到来吗?

回眸《春》这部小说，发现太多的人成了封建社会、封建势力的牺牲品。婉儿，顶替了投湖的鸣凤去给冯乐山做妾，被老头子打得体无完肤，被老太太折磨得不行。但是，可喜的是，婉儿从心里是反抗的，她乐观地认为，曙光就在前方。高觉新的儿子海臣得脑炎悲惨地死去，高觉新对生活彻底失去了信心。高觉新在失去了梅、瑞珏之后，从心里默默地爱上了蕙。但是在蕙嫁入郑家之前的那段时间里，觉新还是听从周伯涛的调遣，为蕙做出嫁前的种.种准备工作，可以说，他又亲手将自己心爱的另一个女人送入了虎口。
