Lying at the center of Beijing， the Forbidden City， called Gu Gong， in Chinese， was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Surrounded by a six meter deep moat and a ten meter high wall are 9，999 buildings. The wall has a gate on each side. Opposite the Tiananmen Gate， to the north is the Gate of Devine Might (Shenwumen)， which faces Jingshan Park. The distance between these two gates is 960 meters， while the distance between the gates in the east and west walls is 750 meters. There are unique and delicately structured towers on each of the four corners of the curtain wall. These afford views over both the palace and the city outside. The Forbidden City is divided into two parts. The southern section， or the Outer Court was where the emperor exercised his supreme power over the nation. The northern section， or the Inner Court was where he lived with his royal family. Until 1924 when the last emperor of China was driven from the Inner Court， fourteen emperors of the Ming dynasty and ten emperors of the Qing dynasty had reigned here. Having been the imperial palace for some five centuries， it houses numerous rare treasures and curiosities. Listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1987， the Palace Museum is now one of the most popular tourist attractions world wide.

Construction of the palace complex began in 1407， the 5th year of the Yongle reign of the third emperor of the Ming dynasty. It was completed fourteen years later in 1420. It was said that a million workers including one hundred thousand artisans were driven into the long-term hard labor. Stone needed was quarried from Fangshan， a suburb of Beijing. It was said a well was dug every fifty meters along the road in order to pour water onto the road in winter to slide huge stones on ice into the city. Huge amounts of timber and other materials were freighted from faraway provinces. Ancient Chinese people displayed their very considerable skills in building the Forbidden City. Take the grand red city wall for example. It has an 8.6 meters wide base reducing to 6.66 meters wide at the top. The angular shape of the wall totally frustrates attempts to climb it. The bricks were made from white lime and glutinous rice while the cement is made from glutinous rice and egg whites. These incredible materials make the wall extraordinarily strong.

Since yellow is the symbol of the royal family， it is the dominant color in the Forbidden City. Roofs are built with yellow glazed tiles; decorations in the palace are painted yellow; even the bricks on the ground are made yellow by a special process. However， there is one exception. Wenyuange， the royal library， has a black roof. The reason is that it was believed black represented water then and could extinguish fire.

Nowadays， the Forbidden City， or the Palace Museum is open to tourists from home and abroad. Splendid painted decoration on these royal architectural wonders， the grand and deluxe halls， with their surprisingly magnificent treasures will certainly satisfy "modern civilians".

优点暂时我只想到这个，其它的优点还是一时想不起，也许是我太急于介绍我的缺点，因为我的缺点实在是太多了，是不是觉得我很谦虚呢？如果你们是这样认为的话，那我又要告诉你们，太令你们失望了，你们又错了，因为骄傲就是我的一大缺点，每当测试考出比较高的分数，我就会沾沾自喜，很自大，觉得对自己很满足了，从而导致下次考试又不理想了。

对自己的信不足，也是我的初三刚刚“培养”出来不久的缺点，应该是源于初时的一次模拟考的体育考试中。记得那次体育考试进行自选项——铅球的测试时，轮到排在我前面的同学进行测试时，也许由于他心理过度紧张，搞得他三次推铅球都出界犯规了，这时，轮到下一个——是我，但我却没想到天昏地暗，竟然跟前面的同样一样，三次推铅球都出界了，这次自选项的分数是零分，真惨，只好无奈地面对现实。

如果以上两个缺点还不算大的话，那么，我还有一个更大的缺点——马虎！我还清楚地记得初中爸爸去开家长会时，老师曾经问爸爸的一个问题：为什么不把我的名字改成“马虎”？因为马虎这个缺点的确造成我不少损失。还记得少数学题因为看错题中的一个小小的数字，却让我想了半天都无法解出来，最后，只能跑去问问同学，他却一眼指出我半天都想不出来的问题。唉，这个缺点我都不知道何时才能彻底消灭掉，或许只有时间才能帮得上我！

这就是我，一个平凡却拥有太多不平凡的缺点的我。

Taiwan is part of China. Most of people settling there come from Fujian and Guangdong. We Chinese all hope that Taiwan can return to the embrace of the motherland at an early date.

各位好，鄙人名叫陈欢飘乐，大家可以叫我乐乐。本人虽然是个女孩但性格像男生，还跟男生一样留短发，最郁闷的是本人有时会被人误解成男生，哎，真郁闷啊。本人还有一个明显特点，那就是个头矮，长了一张娃娃脸，虽是个高中生却老是被别人误以为是初中生，甚至小学生!这么一说啊，我还真觉得我身上咋这么多误会呢?好在本人这张娃娃脸还挺招人喜欢的。

本人成绩平平，但是挺招老师喜欢，可能是因为本人比较老实吧。虽然如此，但我想老师有时也会对本人很无奈吧，因为本人喜欢问一些比较幼稚的问题，让老师哭笑不得，这样一来本人在同学心中的年龄就更小了，以至于比我小的同学要本人叫她姐姐!好在本人也是个还大度的人，从不和她计较。

本人还有一个让老师头疼的毛病，字写得太潦草，有时连自己都看不清，但是一到考试，本人的自己就会有所好，这更令老师没话说，几次向老师许诺把字写好，但一到写作业就忘得一干二净。

说了这么多，你们可别觉得本人没优点哦，本人最大的优点就是脾气好，上高中好几个月了，本人从没有对任何人发脾气，本人遵循“大事化小，小事化了”所以本人在班上的人际关系还不错。本人还有一个优点就是随时能让你笑，如果你不开心，和我谈上几句话你就会跟变了个人一样。总之一句话，和我做朋友永远不会寂寞烦恼。

I like many kinds of sports, such as swimming, running, table-tennis and badminton. But I like running most. Running is a good activity for people to keep healthy and relieve pressures. Besides, it’s very easy for me to running. I can run in the morning or after class. And I can run alone. I don’t have to find a partner to run with me. After running, I always feel good and relaxed. It has become a part of my life.
