Listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1987， the Palace Museum is now one of the most popular tourist attractions world wide.

Construction of the palace complex began in 1407， the 5th year of the Yongle reign of the third emperor of the Ming dynasty. It was completed fourteen years later in 1420. It was said that a million workers including one hundred thousand artisans were driven into the long-term hard labor. Stone needed was quarried from Fangshan， a suburb of Beijing. Take the grand red city wall for example. It has an 8.6 meters wide base reducing to 6.66 meters wide at the top. The angular shape of the wall totally frustrates attempts to climb it. The bricks were made from white lime and glutinous rice while the cement is made from glutinous rice and egg whites. These incredible materials make the wall extraordinarily strong.

Since yellow is the symbol of the royal family， it is the dominant color in the Forbidden City. Roofs are built with yellow glazed tiles; decorations in the palace are painted yellow; even the bricks on the ground are made yellow by a special process. However， there is one exception. 我有许多爱好，如：绘画、听班得瑞的轻音乐、吹笛子、弹古琴、打羽毛球和篮球等。在这些中，我最爱的是绘画。目前，我只知道画和音乐是没有国界的。虽然你和他（她）素不相识，语言不通，但一幅画或一首乐曲可能会让他（她）和你产生共鸣。我觉得一幅画能代表作者作画时的心情。是孤独、悲伤、寂寞还是开心、激动、疯狂？一幅简简单单的画就能体现出来。就拿我说吧，我比较文静，喜欢幻想，喜欢朦胧的“世界”，所以我最拿手的和画得最多的是一条小河在前面缓缓流过，有一只小船停在岸边，岸上有些竹子，还有一顶帐篷，帐篷前铺上一块布，四角有四支蜡烛，中间是一盘小点心。在两侧还有几只水杯。在竹子旁有着一张古琴和一支笛子。当月亮升起时，烛光摇曳。

听音乐，是我的第二大爱好，虽然我唱歌五音不全，差不多是个音痴，但我却十分喜爱听音乐，特别是班得瑞的轻音乐,那能勾起人幻想的《安妮的仙境》，那静谧而又纯洁的《初雪》，那飘逸活泼的《雪之梦》，那欢快而活泼而又充满生机的《春野》，那优美的环境和洁白的羽翼又给人无限幻想的《依卡路斯的羽翼》，那静悄悄的、朴素而又不失典雅的《雪的梦幻》，那欢快活泼流淌在山林间的《山林小溪》……这还只是一点点，那种轻音乐真是只有你静赏它，才会发现它们拥有着怎样的魅力！
