American culture is unique because it is nurtured， formed and developed under certain conditions， which are characteristically（特性）American. The major factors contributing to the making of this new nation and the forming of a new culture are the hard environment， ethnic diversity（多民族） and plural religion， which is quite different from other nations in the world. What is more， these elements are still influencing the American culture.

1. Rough Environment

The early immigrants who were English Puritans settled down in northeast part of American. The environment there was very rough but they believed the poor land could purify their mind so they chose the place along the coast. From 1607 to 1892， frontiers were pushed further west. The American frontier consisted of the relatively unsettled regions of the United States， usually found in the western part of the country. The frontiersmen looked for a land of rich resources and a land of promise， opportunity and freedom. Actually they looked for a better life. So individualism， self-reliance， and equality of opportunity have perhaps been the values most closely associated with the frontier heritage（遗产） of American.

2. Ethnic Diversity

The population of the United States includes a large variety of ethnic groups coming from many races， nationalities， and religions. People refer to the United States as "melting pot "and the dominant people are British. American is made up of WASP MM， that is， White， Anglo Saxon， Protestants plus Middle Class and Male. Nowadays， we can see the continual influence of the three elements in the current American society. American family is typically parents and their unmarried children. Middle-aged and elderly people generally do not live with their married children. Many Americans live in mobile homes whose homes are built with wheels. They can be moved. The people in American have a very strong desire to start a new life in a new place. Quite a number of people change residences（住所） every year. The average American moves fourteen times in his lifetime. The courage to try something new has been an American characteristic. American democracy means majority rule， but it also means protection of minority rights. There are certain freedom which the United States promises to all its citizens and members of minority group cannot be denied these rights by a vote of the majority. Americans also like to be involved in many challenge activities and sports to show their adventurous spirits. All of these are affected by the heritage of the American history.

反正急也急不得，很多时候只能尽人事，听天命。大家于是纷纷找活干，清理船舱和甲板，这样到达以后可以少做点清洁。

夜里又开始下雨了，躲在航海壳里也没觉得多糟，听着雨点打在帽子上，反倒有种奇异的安稳感，好像小时候的夏天，雨点敲在屋檐上。

旅程好像人生，有辛苦有欢乐，感谢于「好了伤疤忘了疼」的优秀人类品质，最后你只记得精彩。小酒吧里一坐，最辛苦的时候都变成最有趣的谈资，所有丰富的经历。这样的人生真好，回忆起来全是欢乐。

19日中午告别了荷兰，再次启程去往英国南安普顿。克利伯11/12的最后一场比赛，一个星期在Den Helder的休息已经足够，我已经等不及再次启程。船上的英国人尤其兴奋，这一程对他们来说等于是回家了，所以总有种节日的气氛在。三天的航行过程非常的紧张，几乎每一班都在不停的换帆升帆中渡过，不论白天还是晚上，其它的船都一直都在可见距离之内。

这短短的三天，我们经历了最强顶风航行，完全没风的航行，球帆升帆索断裂，轻球帆沾水之后被扯成两半，清楚美丽的星夜航行，两次船员生日庆祝，还有今晨最完美日出。最后的三天像一场等不及进行的期末大考，恨不得把这学期所有的知识都拿出来考你个外焦里嫩。

我们终于证明了地球是圆的，从哪里出发，到哪里回家。所有的船员在接近南安普顿的时候全都沸腾了，更不用提有很多船员的家属驾船前来迎接，海面上是我前所未见的繁忙，各种迎接的船只简直要把海面填满了。到处都是欢乐和幸福的泪水，到处都是亲人和朋友的欢呼。

那一刻，所有的欢笑和泪水都变成了不可磨灭的记忆。

那一刻，所有的伤病和痛苦都铸成了英雄的伤疤。

Ji Anlived at the time of Emperor Wudi of the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-A.D.24). He was respected for being upright and just and for daring to speak the truth. He did not bother about amall matters in personal behaviour and in being an official. He was particular about actual effects and ,although he did not cause a stir ,he could keep the prefecture he governed in perfect order. Because of this. the imperial court transferred him to the central government from being the perfect of the Donghai Prefecture to being a commander in charge of the appointment and dismissal of the local officals.

Once,Emperor Wudi said that he would implement the policy of benevolence and justice of Confucianism and would do good turns to the people.Emperor Wudi Had hardly finished his remards when Ji An said that there was no need for the emperor to say so.Why should the emperor bother,Ji An said, about pretending to implement the policy of benevolence and justice since he was so greedy and avaricious within himself? This choked the emperor off. The emperor suddenly Changed his countenance and declared the meeting over. All the civilian and military officers at court were breathless with anxiety for fear that Ji An might bring disaster upon himself because of this. After returning, Emperor Wudi said to the people around him that Ji An was a little too rude and too straightforward.

For this reason ,Ji An was never promoted again. When he was the commander in charge of the appointment and dismissal of the local officials, both Gongsun Hong and Zhang Tang were low -ranking lfficials of little importance. Later ,they were promoted continuously. Gongsun Hong became the prime minister and Zhang Tang became the imperial censor. However, JiAns post remained thesame. One day, Ji An said to Emperor Wudi that the way the emperor used his ministers was just like piling up firewood, which meant that the latecomers surpassed the old-timers. Of course, Emperor Wudi could see that Ji An was complaining. So,turning to his ministers, Emperor Wudi said, "It is true that no one can stop learning.You see, Ji An is making more and more indiscreet remarks."

This story comes from The Historical Records. Later generations use the set phrase "the latecomers surpass the old-timers " to indicate that successors can cxcel the predecessors, which is quite different from the original idea when Ji An said that the latecomers surpassed the old-timers.

汲黯是西汉武帝时代人，以刚直正义、敢讲真话而受人尊重。他为人和做官都不拘小节，讲求实效。虽然表面上不那么轰轰烈烈，却能把一个郡治理得井井有条，因此，朝廷把他从东海太守调到朝廷当主爵都尉——一种主管地方吏任免的官职。

有一次，汉武帝说要实行儒家的仁义之政，为老百姓办好事了。没等皇帝把话说完，汲黯就说：“陛下内心里那么贪婪多欲，表面上却要装得实行仁政，这是何苦呢？”一句话把皇帝噎了回去。汉武帝登时脸色大变，宣布罢朝，满朝文武都为汲黯捏着一把汗，担心他会因此招来大祸。武帝回到宫里以后，对身边的人说，汲黯这个人也未免太粗太直了。

从此以后，汲黯的官职再也没有提升。他当主爵都尉的时候，公孙弘、张汤都还是不起眼的小官，后来，他们一个劲儿住上升，公孙弘当上了丞相，张汤做上了御史大夫，可他汲黯还蹲在原地没动窝。有一天，汲黯对武帝说，陛下使用群臣，跟码劈柴一样，是“后来者居上”啊！汉武帝当然听得出这是发牢骚。于是，转脸对臣下们说：“人真是不能不学习啊！你们听汲黯说话，越来越离谱了！”

故事出自《史记汲郑列传》。成语“后来居上”，往往指后起的可以胜过先前的。和汲黯说这话的原意，大不相同。

We dont know, how long can you live in this world, the only sure: "family love" is never change. My family is not rich, but I have a warm family, also let me understand a lot of way of doing things a person, everyone wants to be loved, but dont know what is the definition of love? Actually, love is very simple, just hard to understand a person, and to care for others.

Life wont last very long, I hope that love in the world, this is my view of the world, because I know, nothing, no character, no love, no care is equal to the waste in life, there is no meaning, so, dont let your own life meaningful? So, I want to take advantage of reading to giving back to the family love.

If the parents dont care about his daughter, he wont leave your tears, and the children dont care about his parents, will not Mr Spell a career, to let their parents a better life. But I, is the same, for your family also have feelings, loathe to give up, happy, sad mood, such as in the end I want to say is, "I really love all the people in my family."

人出生在这世界上，最早接触到的就是“家人”，也许我们曾经和家人吵架过，也有意见不合的时候，但当受到挫折时，却是他们陪伴着我们，一起走向未知的未来，或许和他们的相处时间可能不会很久，但他们却毫无保留的把爱给我们，我承认，我真的很会惹父母生气，不过在升上国一时，我改了，因为我不想在过鬼打墙的日子中，浪费了属于我们的时光。

我们并不知道，自己到底可以在这个世界上活多久，而唯一肯定的是：“家人的爱”是永远不会变的。我家并不富有，但我有个温馨的家庭，也让我懂很多做人处事的道理，每一个人都希望被爱，不过，并不知道爱的定义是甚么?其实，爱很简单，只是用心的去懂一个人，并且去关怀他人而已。

生命不会长久，但愿爱永在世上，这是我对这个世界的看法，因为我懂，没有事物、没有人物、没有爱、没有关怀等于在虚掷人生，毫无意义，既然如此，位什么不让自己的人生有意义点呢?所以，我想利用读书来回馈家人的爱。

假如，父母不在乎自己的女儿，就不会留下自己的眼泪，而子女不在乎自己的父母，就不会努拼着事业，来让自己的父母过好一点的生活。而我，也是一样的，对自己的家人也会有感情、舍不得、开心、难过等情绪存在，最后我想说的是，“我真的很爱我们家所有的人。”
