The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to show respect to Buddha on this day. Later, the Buddhist rite developed into a grand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the Central Plains to the whole of China.

Till today, the lantern festival is still held each year around the country. Lanterns of various shapes and sizes are hung in the streets, attracting countless visitors. Children will hold self-made or bought lanterns to stroll with on the streets, extremely excited. "Guessing lantern riddles"is an essential part of the Festival.

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are right, they will get a little gift. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also called the "Yuanxiao Festival."Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan. It is small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar

pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning reunion. So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the family.

In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and beating drums while dancing will be staged. On the night, except for magnificent lanterns, fireworks form a

beautiful scene. Most families spare some fireworks from the Spring Festival and let them off in the Lantern Festival. Some local governments will even organize a fireworks party. On the night when the first full moon enters the New Year, people become really intoxicated by the imposing fireworks and bright moon in the sky.

have a best friend. We met in school, and were in the same grade.

My best friend is a good student because he is very hardworking. I learn a

lot from him. He helps me with math; I help him with English. We always help

each other. Besides that, hes honest and reliable. I trust him completely and

we share secrets all the time.

My best friend is a loyal and brave boy. When a bully teased me, he came to

my rescue right away. He always remembers my birthday and he is fun to be with.

He tells funny jokes and stories. He always makes me laugh. Finally, he is a

very good listener and he knows how to cheer me up when Im down. I hope well

stay friends forever.

我的家乡枣庄，它位于山东省的南部，有着悠久的历史和灿烂的文化，素有鲁南煤城之称。如今的枣庄已经成功的实现城市转型，变成幸福而又令人向往的地方。

枣庄有许许多多的著名旅游景点，比如：江北水乡运河古城、台儿庄大战纪念馆、万亩石榴园、东湖公园等。

运河古城坐落于枣庄市台儿庄区驻地。经过历史的变迁，至今仍保留有不少的遗存。被世界旅游组织誉为“活着的运河”，乾隆曾称为‘天下第一庄’现在经过市委、市政府精心打造，已经成为名符其实的江北水乡·运河古城，目前已经成为煤城枣庄的新城市名片。

台儿庄大战纪念馆模拟当年台儿庄大战全景，仿佛再现当年的大战激烈场面。让人看之后，犹如身临其境、感慨五千。

万亩石榴园，群山环抱，碧水绿洲,石榴园东西长20公里，石榴40万株，43个品种，种植面积达十万亩，因此称为"天下第一榴园。榴园不仅石榴好吃，而且园内还有众多的旅游景点。有风景优雅、檀香飘飞的青檀古寺，有小巧玲珑的园中园，有美丽善良的石榴花仙子像……一步一风景，一景一故事，让人流连忘返，回味无穷。

除这些旅游景点，不得不提我们枣庄的菜煎饼，它是枣庄有名的小吃。老少兼宜，俗称“中国热狗”。该菜煎饼既可作宴席食品，也可作普通家庭便饭。制作简便快捷营养丰富，色香味浓，最适合快节奏工作人们的即时快餐！此外还有辣子鸡和羊肉汤等丰富的饮食吸引着数以万计的游客。

I am _x and I am 12 years old. My favorite sports include basketball, swim and football. One of my favorite stars is Liu Xiang because he is the fastest runner in the world and a pride of our country. I have love fruits like watermelon, grapes, banana, and so forth. When I have time, I like watching TV, playing games on my computer, surfing the web, and reading. I have a lot of friends and we often play football together.

我的家乡大简是一个水乡古镇，比起一些大城市来说，大简显得是那么微不足道。可水乡古镇每天都吸引了无数的游客前来观光游览。

大简的河是大简的筋脉，大河，小河纵横贯穿整个大简，你在任何地方都可以看见河流。微波荡漾，河中鱼儿游来游去，仿佛是在倾听游人的脚步声；一会儿，鱼儿又钻下水底，似乎在和嬉戏玩耍。河面上，轮船发出呜呜的响声行驶着，好象在说：你瞧！我在水上行驶得多快！在东市河，你就看不到大轮船的踪迹。一艘艘乌蓬船在河上缓慢地行驶，一位衣着朴素的船夫，站在船尾，眼睛望着前方，双手握住船桨，悠悠地摇着。船桨在手中摇动，水面扩散出一道道微波。这乌蓬船比起那大河上的轮船，让人感到一种悠闲自在的感觉。

有河必有桥，大简的桥主要以石板桥为主。石板桥都是拱形的，在桥的半圆形桥洞上往往写着桥的名字。桥，对所有人来说是再熟悉不过了，可大简的桥并不是那么普普通通，而是饱经风霜。桥上雕刻的花纹已经模糊不清，几棵有顽强生命力的小草在石缝里茁壮成长。走上石桥，迎面吹来了一阵微风，让人感到清爽自在。

大简的弄也是非常的多，主要分部在东，南，西，北栅，其中众所周知的是已经成为旅游景点的东栅弄堂。东栅的弄堂只有两米左右的宽度，两边那一幢幢陈久的民宅，并排的通向弄堂的尽头。走在弄堂的石板路上，抬起头望望蓝天，天变得又细又长，云好像寄害羞似的，只露出一点点。早晨，当黎明的第一缕阳光照亮被黑夜笼罩的大地时，沉睡中的弄堂慢慢地苏醒起来，苏睡的第一声就是的露水滴在地上的声音，接着，鸟儿欢快的歌唱，人们从鸟儿的歌声中醒了，弄堂一下子热闹了，上班的上班，洗衣服的洗衣服，一片忙碌的景象。中午，酷热的太阳对着大地发出一阵又一阵的热量，可弄堂里太阳光一点儿也晒不进去，因为房屋像一排排卫士阻挡着酷热的太阳光的入侵。傍晚，太阳落山了，夕阳将弄堂染成了红色，弄堂里人们聊天，乘凉，夜幕渐渐地降临，弄堂里人们都已回屋睡觉了，弄堂又安静了下来，等待着明天的到来。

大简还有一位伟大的文学家彭俊贤，他的文学作品至今还是人们最喜欢看的书之一。还有一些著名景点，如修真馆，茅盾故居，林家铺子，百床馆，酒作坊等等。这些都是旅客必去的地方。

大简是我家，我爱我的家乡！

The winter holiday is coming. I am very excited. I want to better my

holiday plan. Now let me tell you my plan.

I’m going to read some books and listen to music and relax for a few days

first. On the fifth day, I’m going to do my homework. Of course, I’m also going

to do some housework. Lunar New Year’s Day, I’m going to take a trip with my

parents. I think it must be very happy. I can hardly wait! In the first six days

of February, I’m going to visit my relatives. It’s going to be fun! After a few

days, I’m going to finish my homework, because I am going back to my school on

February 16th.

Tomb Sweeping Day is on the April 5th every year. Its a day to show our great respect to our deceased ancestors. On that day, we usually sweep the tomb of our ancestors and offer them food and drinks. We also burn paper money to them. It is believed that our ancestors in heaven will receive the money. Besides, everything in our nature takes on a new look on that day, so its the best time for spring outing. It must be fun and relaxing.
