就目前来说最能体现旧州古镇历史风貌的要数西上街。此街为当时的主要街道，分上、中、下三段。如今保存最好的是上段，即西上街。这段街道的建筑乃保留了明清特色，民居均为防火空斗码头砖墙相隔的“印”字形建筑，构成天井院式布局，临街为双台铺面，成片相连，风格独特，古色古香。西上街民居建筑多为三开间天井院落布局，民宅均为木雕工艺，以“双凤朝阳”、“渔樵耕读”等镂雕图案装饰，造型悠美，别有风味。
