一、形成性评价的概念

形成性评价(Formative Assessment)是美国评价学专家斯克里芬在1967年在其所著的《评论方法论》里提出来的。所谓的形成性评价是相对于传统的终结性评价(Summative Assessment)而言的,指的是对学生日常学习过程中的表现、所取得的成绩及所反映出来的情感、态度和策略方面的发展做出的评价,这种评价是通过对学生学习的整个过程持续观察、记录和反思之后得出来的。

形成性评价的目的是为了激励学生学习,帮助学生调控自己的学习过程。让学生获得成就感,增强其自信心和团结合作精神,让学生从被动接受评价变成一个评价的主体和积极参与者。形成性评价能够帮助教师了解学生的学习情况,从而制定下一步的教学计划。与终结性评价相比,形成性评价不只以考试成绩来衡量学生的学习情况,它更加灵活方便,也更加科学有效。形成性评价注重对学生学习行为和表现的评估,能够有效发挥学生的主动性和创造性,有利于培养学生的学习兴趣,也能够有效提高学生的自信心。

二、形成性评价的方法与工具

首先,一般而言,形成性评价的方法大致分为:自我评价、同伴互评和教师评价。

自我评价是指学生在学习的过程中就自己学习进程中的某个阶段性成果的总结和评价。自我评价是形成性评价中尤为重要的评价方法,只有通过自我评价才能尽力发挥其的主观能动性,积极主动地参与课堂教学活动。只有主观积极地参与课堂,就自己不同阶段的水平,才能更好地定位自己进一步的目标,并在课程初期、中期及末期分别给予自己相对客观中肯的评价,以促进下一阶段的学习。

同伴互评是指在课堂活动中,就某一活动进行同学之间的评价,评价包括学习态度、学习能力及学习方法的评价。在同伴互评的过程中,学生们可以相互探讨学习方法、交流学习心得、提出改进的建议和意见。同伴之间相互比较、竞争,相互取长补短,既增强了合作精神又促进了学习能力和学习效率的提升。同伴互评作为形成性评价重要的方法之一,其评价形式既增强了课堂的趣味性又增强了学生的学习自信心和学习热情。

课堂学习的主体是学生,但是学习评价的主体却是教师。形成性评价侧重过程教育,在教学过程中,根据需要调整教学计划和内容,该评价尤其重视学生与教师在课堂的共同参与度,而非教师“一言堂”。首先,教师在教学过程中设定好学生自我评价与同伴评价的量化标准,列好学生自我评价和同伴评价的核查表;其次,学生根据核查表才可有的放矢,对照核查表所列的内容一一检查,每节课后,客观公正地给予自己和他人中肯的评价;最后,结合学生自我评价和同伴评价的反馈结果,教师针对学生课堂上的表现,纵向对比某一特定学生评价前后的差异,或者横向比较某一特定组别在同一活动中每位学生各项指标的完成情况,同时,以多种形式反馈给学生并提出整改意见。因而,在教学的不同阶段,根据学生的能力发展状况,教师可适时调整评价方式,不断改进教学方法和教学手段。

只有将自我评价、同伴评价与教师评价结合在一起评价方式才能保证较好的教学效果,才能促进教育改革的进一步深化,真正达到以素质教育培养复合型人才的终极目标。

其次,形成性评价的行为评估工具有课堂观察、学生档案、座谈、问卷调查、访谈和对话周记等。如何运用以及怎样运用这些评价工具要根据所授课程、课程目标和授课对象等诸多因素做适当调整。

课堂观察是教学行为和技巧的基本方式。根据Genesee and Upshur(2001:79)的观点,教师在观察的基础上,可以评估学生已掌握和未掌握的内容。换言之,教师应该评估促进或阻碍学生学习的策略。与此同时,教师还可评估一些特定的教学策略的有效性,确定学生们欣赏哪些课堂活动和形式。课堂观察有助于教师更好地了解课程设计和学生需求的契合度。通过正式或非正式的观察,教师可掌握大多数学生对于教学安排的可接受程度,根据学生的需求改进或调整教学安排等,以提升教学效果。

“questionnaires and interviews can all be thought of as conversations between students and teachers”(Genesee and Upshur,2001:136)。如上所述,问卷调查和访谈都可被看作教师和学生间的对话,访谈和问卷调查是相似的,但决定使用访谈或者问卷调查可依据不同的教学目的。无论是哪种方式,都是老师和学生之间相对正式的会谈,这非常有利于老师对他的教学效果进行评估,诊断学生在英语学习遇到的困难,为学生寻找合适的解决问题,获得良好的学习策略和学习得到更多的进步。访谈和问卷调查设计应该根据学生的个人需求并符合教学目标。

对话周记作为教师和学生沟通的另一种方式,深受学生的喜爱。因课程设置和班级规模的不同,课堂观察、问卷调查及访谈都相对比较片面,而对话周记则可以关注到每个学生的不同需求。师生间定期通信,既增加了教师和学生之间的相互了解,增强彼此的信任,又能解决学生的个案问题,做到因材施教;同时,为了促进“教学相长”,学生可及时反馈教师的课堂教学,对于教师的教学提出较好的建议和意见。

学生档案是一个综合各项评估功能于一体的评估工具。它可以记录学生的成长、课堂变化且兼顾多种需要。如今,众多评价工具只把学生作为评价的对象,而评估的责任和任务的则落到了教师身上。但事实上,几乎没有一种评价工具能很好地管理学生活动并对其课堂行为负责。相比之下, 建立学生档案,需要学生亲力亲为;本着自我负责的原则,他们要更好地自我监督和控制,同时,在建档案的过程中,学生可以见证自己的进步与成长,增强学习的自信,提高学习的效果。

三、形成性评价对于英语口语教学的重要性与紧迫性

众所周知,教育评估在大学英语课程改革中扮演着相当重要的角色。英语教学的重点已从传播知识转移到培养能力。多年来,在中国,人们只注重英语写作和阅读的能力的提升,而一直忽视英语口语交际能力。多年来,教学评价已经被狭义理解为量化教学,而后进一步局限于教学测试。考试作为教学的终极目的,期末考试的成绩也就成为教师评价学生的最重要的依据。而对于口语课堂,单一的这种评估方式和依据增加了大多数学生的心理压力和少部分学生侥幸心理。考试成绩给学生很大压力,危害学生的发展,评估过程中,学生一直被动地参与,无法调动其积极性。当课程结束时,教师将得不到及时准确的学生反馈,无法改善评估方法以助于提高学生的英语口语能力。

“形成性评价源于诊断性测试。与终结性评价相比,形成性评价通过教学过程中多方面的评价发现问题,解决问题,强调过程性、目标性和学生学习的主动性。” (魏薇,2005) 鉴于终结性评价在口语测试评分中的片面性和主观性,大学英语口语表达能力的培养还是受到了这种终结性评价的制约。在大学英语口语教学中,形成性评价最重要的任务的是帮助教师监控学生英语口语的学习过程,提高学生的英语口语学习。如能将形成性评价的理论引入大学英语口语课堂教学与测试中,建立大学英语口语课程与形成性评价相结合的评估模式,则会推动大学英语口语教学和测试的改革进程。

鉴于口语课堂的特点,为了克服传统终结性评价对于口语课堂的制约性,形成性评价与大学英语口语教学相结合有其不可忽视的重要性和紧迫性。

首先,由于口语表达能力除了包含最基本的发音、词汇、语法能力还有语用能力、文化知识储备力等多项复杂的技能,而所有的这些技能无法在某一次测试中完全体现出来。因口语学习的最终目的是运用到相关学科、为了更好地促进国际交流。

而形成性评价尤其注重过程教学,这种评价将教学过程分成了诸多阶段,学生可在每个不同的阶段就自己的学习态度、发音、语言运用的准确性、流利程度以及课堂活动参与的积极性进行横向的同学互评和纵向的自我比较。一方面,横向比较可以找到彼此间的差距,互相帮助已达到各方面的提升;另一方面,学生可在整理学习档案的过程中,纵向比较自己前后阶段的学习情况,时刻了解自己在每个阶段的学习状况,在教师和同学的辅助下,运用不同的学习方法和策略,逐项提高自己的口语能力。 另外,教师在学生进行评价的过程中,可真实地参与并记录学生在各方面的真实水平。

其次,口语课堂实际上是教师与学生、学生与学生之间的互动交际。教师需要花费大量的时间设计口语活动、鼓励学生参与活动、监控课堂活动、诊断学生的需求和问题、记录学生的表现等。学生则在各种学习任务和活动中不断地练习、发现问题、纠正偏差。

与传统的终结性评价不同,形成性评价的最显著特征是评价的主体是学生,学生和教师共同参与课堂,缺一不可。根据多数学生的关注点,学生参与确定研究目标、评分标准和英语口语的性能评估。因而,他们了解每一项活动的任务和目标,他们可合理运用各种评价方式和工具,课前认真准备,课堂上积极参与,能与教师积极互动,课堂上客观地评价自己、同伴和教师。这不仅是一种评价过程,更是学生回归自我认同感的方式。学生增加了学习自信,在评价过程中不断积累经验,逐步获得学习成就感。教师亦可在与学生互动的过程中,更好地了解学生的知识掌握和课堂反馈情况,根据反馈适时调整教学方法。如此良性循环,既增强了课堂的趣味性又提高了学生的学习效率。

四、结语

形成性评价,作为正常教学和学习过程的有机部分,可以全面、客观、科学、准确地提供与其学习目标相关的重要信息,它有助于促进学生的个性化发展和外语教学质量的根本性提高。形成性评价其中的一个重要作用是培养学生良好的英语学习习惯。将英语形成性评价与口语教学紧密地结合在一起,能提高学生学习的兴趣并及时、准确、客观地反映学生的真实水平,使学生的英语口语能力稳步提高。通过采用具体的形成性评价方式,发展学生的自我评价与学生间相互评价的能力,以促进学生的自我反思与自我管理能力。从而提高学生自主学习意识与自主学习能力,并为他们养成终身学习的意识与习惯打下基础。

我盼望已久的夏令营终于开始了,怀着紧张而又激动的心情走进中山大学珠海校区。眼前的一切一切都感到陌生。陌生的环境;陌生的营友;陌生的老师;好不容易拿到了一切证件和书本,接下来是找宿舍。随着拥挤的人群,终于来到了榕园。望着眼前这座高大雄伟的建筑物,想着我将在这里住半个月,我不亦乐乎。经过咨询,才知道我的宿舍在301。我们三步并作两步走了进去。哇,眼前的一切让我感到吃惊。宿舍又小又闷,而且没风扇又没空调,这半个月我要受苦了,真惨啊!但一想:来这里就是要学会独立自理的,又不是来享福,所以我要学会吃苦耐劳!

我们宿舍里每个晚上都有蟑螂、飞虫之类小虫子飞进来,我们都又怕又不知怎么办,只好呆呆地坐着。幸好宿舍里有两个高二的姐姐保护我们,否则我们不知该如何是好。晚上虽然有点热,但是感觉很新鲜,很快便入睡。

我们在这里天天都要上课。从宿舍走到教学楼需要一个钟头。而我们每天要走3个来回,所以想减肥的人来参加这个夏令营一定能减肥成功!我们上课是外教和一个助教上的。上课的形式很灵活,一会儿玩游戏,一会儿单词接龙,一会儿听老师讲故事。我们上课也很随便,外教不会要你坐得整整齐齐,我们喜欢干嘛就干嘛,可以到处乱走,可以下位同其他同学进行英语交流。因为外教喜欢自由,所以也让我们自由。

在这里,我认识了许许多多的朋友,同她们在生活上互帮互助,一起学习,一起聊天。每当我无聊时,她们便会讲笑话给我听;每当我作业不会做时,她们便会一题一题地讲解给我听,直到我会为止;每当我生活上遇到困难时,她们会尽自己最大的力量帮助我;每当我伤心时,她们会安慰我;同她们在一起,我觉得时间过得飞快,觉得十分开心!

在这里十分辛苦,要自己洗衣服、晾衣服,还有许许多多的事情需要自己做主。晚上,洗完澡后,便要自己将衣服洗干净。洗衣服非常辛苦,有时怎么搓都搓不干净,直到搓得双手红通通的,才搓干净一小部分。好不容易搓干净了,接下来是扭干衣服。衣服很重,我费了很大的劲才扭干,此时我已经累得气喘吁吁了。但是还要将衣服晾上去,晾衣服的那根竹竿太高了,我又太矮了。所以我只好请宿舍里的两个高二的姐姐帮忙。

我们每天上午就上课,下午就搞活动。下午的活动丰富多彩,有时候看外教跳舞;有时候爬山;有时候到图书馆看书;有时候上网;女外教们跳舞都很厉害,有时候还玩杂技,非常精彩!晚上,我们不是上课就是看电影——小鬼当家。小鬼当家这部电影很好看,是一部教育片。在场的同学常常看的哈哈大笑,现场也常常发出热烈的掌声。

二、指导写作应注意的几个问题:

1.教师要有明确合理的教学计划和教学程序,组织系统规范的有序训练。

2.帮助和要求学生养成积极主动地坚持英语写作的良好习惯。

3.坚持循序渐进的训练原则。写作要先易后难,先短后长,先学会运用简单句、并列句,后学会用复合句表达,先写正确句子逐步过渡到围绕一个人、一件事、一个观点去写有中心的文章,由不限定时间到限定时间,由限定时间长到限定时间短,由限定字数少到多……

4.分程度要求。对学生的要求不能一刀切,对学习好的要求要高,对学习差的要求要适当低一些。要避免有些学生轻而易举垂手可得,而有些学生又可望而不可及的情况发生。

5.注意讲评。要经常指出优点,以利模仿,指出缺点,警示避免。

6.鼓励优秀,耐心帮助差生。充分利用板报、专栏进行优秀作文展览,或者也可采用传阅方式进行。但不能放弃或岐视差生,要经常帮助他们树立信心,掌握写作方法和技巧。

7.基础知识和能力并重,听说读和写并举。教师在平时教学中应充分利用一切可以利用的机会启发引导学生提高自己的写作水平。如遇到优秀的句、段或篇提示学生注意欣赏作者的表达法,把它们作为范例,在自己写作中加以模仿和运用。又如遇到英汉表达方法不同之处,提示学生注意英语的正确表达法,切忌出现汉语式的英语。要帮助学生养成正确运用标点符号的好习惯,切忌一点到底的错误方法。

8.要求学生在写作中宁简勿误,不能养成随随便便的习惯,要养成严谨推敲的风气。

三、训练写作的常用方法。

写作训练应考虑循序渐进的原则,采取逐步提高的形式进行。

1.用学过的词、短语或句式,模仿课文中的表达法造句。2.换课文中的人物、时态、语态或体裁等改写课文。3.看图作文。4.填补式作文。5.写课文复述材料或写心得体会。6.将打乱顺序的句子按事件发展的时间顺序或逻辑关系等整理成一篇完整的短文。7.教师给出题目和提纲让学生写作。8.写日记或周记。9.材料作文。教师给出汉语提示让学生用英语表达。

四、注意纠正学生英语作写中容易出现的错误。

学生最初写作时,教师要给予必要的指导,使他们少犯错误。教师还要经常性地例举错误的表达法,提醒学生注意避免。在批阅作文时教师要随时标出学生错误之处,还要随时记录学生所犯错误,把学生的错误加以归类总结,把普遍性的错误提出来,让学生集体改错,使他们的语言表达尽可能地规范正确。

总之,学生英语写作能力在老师有计划的组织和耐心帮助、正确引导下,在学生长期积极密切的配合下是能够得以逐步提高的。

Mothers Day Mother’s Day is a holiday when children honor their mothers with

Turkey, Australia and the US, people cel lebrate Mother’s Day on the second

Sunday in May while many other countries of the world celebrate their own

Mother’s day at different times through out the year.

One of the best ways to celebrate Mother’s Day is to give your mom the day

off. Let her relax with the rest of the family doing all the housework. Usually,

dad and the kids will let mom sleep late that morning as they go into the

kitchen to prepare her favourite breakfast. Never forget to place a vase with a

single flower on the table beside the food. The kids can pick up the flower from

the garden or buy one from the shop. Arrange everything nicely before mom wakes

up. Some families will carry the food and mom’s favourite sections from the

newspaper to her bedroom so that mom can have breakfast in bed. Presents and

cards from the kids can be handed to mom by themselves or just placed on the

dining table.

After breakfast, go anywhere mom likes to go. Shopping, swimming or going on

a picnic in the garden. Make a special Mother’s Day dinner or take mom out for a

great meal in a famous restaurant she loves most.

Anyway ,let mom enjoy the whole day and feel your love, and then the Mother’s

Day can be a good one. As Mother’s Day is around the corner, it’s time to take

actions!

一、利用表象,丰富想象

观察图画和实物作文符合英语作文起步阶段需要有一定的情景要求,也符合高中学生有意想象占优势的特点,同时避免了文字情节作文易使学生中译英的缺点,但若每一次训练都是刻板的再现材料,创造想象则难以增长。如果在教学设计时,在图中留有空白,或对实物设置悬念,不仅可以引发学生的好奇心,激发他们对英语作文的兴趣,减轻他们的惧怕心理,而且可以促使学生通过创造性的想象去填补空白,解决悬念。

如Senior BookⅠ,Unit 3 中的“Help! Help!”,可按发展顺序设计几幅救落水儿童的图,但只给学生展示第一、二两幅图,图画的内容大致与课文内容相同,但是后几幅的空白,使学生必须通过创造性的想象才能填补材料的空白。学生可以引用课文中的材料,也可以自由发挥。有学生这样写到:

Last week, we had a picnic in Forest Park. We found a shady place by the river. As soon as we had sat down, Tom suddenly got up and shouted, “Someone has fallen into the river!" It was true. A boy was struggling in the water, and the children in a boat looked hopeless. Tom and Jack took off their shoes while running to wards the water. They swam very quickly towards the boy who was sinking fast. Tom and Jack got hold of the boy by the arms and lifted his head above the water. Together they pulled the boy to the shore.

之后,再给学生展示其中一幅图,或一句话的情景:……,a man/a woman/a child, etc. has fallen into the river/the lake, etc.……。让学生自由选择自由发挥。有的根据曾在报上看到的新闻,称颂一身怀六甲的妇女勇救落水儿童的事迹,也有的谴责那些对落水者无动于衷的旁观者。学生的作文体裁记叙文、议论文不限。这样,既训练了他们书面的表达能力,又发挥了他们的想象和创造能力、思维表达能力。同时也让他们思索了做人的道理。

二、精选图画,激发想象

处于英语作文起步阶段的学生的想象具有直观性,片面性和模仿性的特点,为其提供的观察材料越具体、越完整、越详实,他们的这些特点往往表现得越明显,有时甚至强化了他们的这些特点。换个方式,为他们提供一些抽象的图画,他们的创造想象反而被激活,因为他们必须在原有的图画上进行创造才可能有新的形象产生。而“抽象画作品所表现的物象与参照物相差甚远,它最大限度地把形与色对视觉作用的潜力发挥出来,直观效果非常强烈。它经过夸张、简化、分解、组合等变化手段,将客观事物的表象创造成为富于想象力。”如荷兰画家蒙德里安的表达百老汇街道的嘈杂与热闹的《百老汇爵士》(Jazz in Broadway)是一幅看上去比较抽象的图画,学生通过观察、运用合理的想象,写出了内容各异的作品。

有学生这样写到:

It is the downtown of Shanghai. The streets, such as Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road, etc are busy. Cars, buses and trucks with all kinds of advertisements are running. People dressed in their best are walking happily or hurrying to work on their bikes. Beautifully decorated stores are crowded with people shopping. They all look in high spirits. The traffic policemen at the crossings are directing the traffic attentively and seriously. Everything is in good order. Such is our city. I love our city.

而另有学生在他们的作文中认为这是一个“排污系统”(drain outlet system )或电路板(circuit board)或房屋平面图(a plane figure of a house)等等。

可见,由抽象的图画到生动画面的产生,到一篇作文的写作成功,是创造想象不断发展的过程,也是提高英语语言运用能力的过程。

三、借助音乐,拓宽想象

音乐能有效地丰富学生的精神生活,促进学生感知、情感、想象等方面的健康成长,能给学生提供想象和联想的广阔空间,有利于培养学生的发散性思维能力,促进人的全脑开发,为学生的创新精神和实践能力在各方面的延伸乃至终身发展提供良好的基础。因此,在英语写作训练中有时借助音乐等艺术形式,对丰富学生的想象力是一种有益的尝试。

如Senior Book Ⅵ ,Unit 7中的“The Waltz king ”这一课文,根据内容,可设计让学生听一首Beethoven的“命运”(Fate),让学生根据自己的理解,写一篇作文,一位学生这样写到:

I am a graduate from high school, and I will enter for the Collage Entrance Examination. Whether I will be admitted to a collage, I will work harder than before , since our country is still poor and weak.

从作品中我们可以发现,借助音乐,学生的想象力得到了较大幅度的拓展。“音乐艺术对学生的创造能力的发展具有独特的作用。

四、灵活方法,发展想象

“创造想象是严格的构思过程,它是由思维调节的。”想象会产生全新的物象与情景、独特的认识和感悟。一段文字、一篇文章,给不同的读者,就有不同的想象余地。正如:A thousand readers, a thousand Hamlets.(一千个读者,就有一千个哈姆雷特。)在英语作文教学中根据一定的线索或情节,提供学生广阔的思维空间,让学生进行想象描述(创造性的描述),会收到很好的锻炼效果。

例如 “After Twenty Years" (Senior Book Ⅵ,Unit 5) 这一课,可要求学生在学完之后, 简单续写一个结尾。这是一篇根据O. Henry 同名原作改写的文章。文章的故事情节虽然简单,但很能挖掘、发挥学生的创造想象力。学生这样写到:

As soon as the police officer wanted to catch Bob by the arm, he took out a gun, aimed at the officer and said, “I knew I was wanted, but I dont want to be arrested anyway. Tell Jim Wells I will come to visit him one day." Just at that time, the police officer found himself surrounded by some strong men, gun in hand, pointing to him. Bob then walked into the street and got into a car parking there, followed by those strong men. The car soon disappeared.

另有学生这样写到:

The moment the officer caught Bob by the arm, he got rid of it and ran away at once. He was running down the street as fast as he could, when he was shot on the right shoulder. He turned round. To his great surprise, it was Jim Wells, his o ld friend. He fell on the ground and fainted.

在作文教学中,通过对一定的语言材料进行不同方式的处理,确实是锻炼学生的思维,发展学生的想象力的一条重要途径。当学生对当前的语言材料进行阅读、处理时,进行了充分的分析、比较,又充分展示了自己的想象力,其思维得到了充分的发散。
