这本书讲述了两个完全不是一个世界的人神奇故事。

爱斯美拉达是个美丽的流浪艺人。她不仅外表美丽，还有一颗高尚的心灵。当诗人格兰古瓦即将被乞丐王国绞死的关键时刻，她毫不犹豫地以愿意和他结婚的方式救下了诗人;当副主教克洛德利等用种种卑鄙的手段逼迫她时，她也表现出了前所未有的镇定，她还宁死不屈，在绞刑架前显出了她的大义凛然……

卡西莫多是个极其丑陋的聋瞎敲钟人。他遭到了亲人及整个社会的遗弃。但厄运不但没污染他的心，反而使他成为了一个善良的人。他多次救下了爱斯美拉达，还常帮助无家可归的孤儿。命运给了他爱上爱斯美拉达的机会，可上帝却在他生命结束之时跟他开了个莫大的玩笑——在另一个世界与爱斯美拉达相爱。故事是悲惨的，可他们留下的精神却是永恒的!

是啊，一个人不能因为自己先天不足而自暴自弃，更不能过分追求外表美。我们应该学会真诚地善待他人。要懂得珍爱生命，尊重世界上的每一个人。
