It is reported that ten big cities in China are being ranked among the top twenty cities with the highest pollution index in the world. This means it is high time we did something to bring the situation under control.Many factors are contributing to the deteriorating situation: industrial wastes pumped into the air， the lakes and rivers; a increasing number of automobiles crowding into the streets; the widespread use of plastic bags etc.

To my view， stiffer laws and regulations must be implemented to check pollution. Industries that release wastes without permission should be heavily fined. With time goes by， it bees a bit hard for me to remember everything about

myself at the first day of my college life。 However， there was one thing for

sure that I did feel quite excited and curious about my university。 There is no

doubt that students like me have struggled for a long time so that can be

permitted to enter the university。

Bringing with expectation， I got into Gongshang University。 Generally

speaking， its an interesting and fantastic place for us to study and live in。

Every day a series of outgoing people get into my eyesight。 Curious and out of

politeness， Id talk to them heart to heart。 Here I make friends with my new

classmates from everywhere around China。 Whats more， time and weather

permitting， I will enjoy jogging or playing basketball with my classmates on the

playground， tired but happy。 When staying in dormitory， I choose to read news

online and sometimes watch a film for relaxing。 However， a good student can

never leave his study behind。 When it es to study， hard problems never upset me，

instead they arouse me。 Rather than ignoring it， Id think carefully for a while

and ask my classmates for help。

To be honest， there are some things I don’t deal with properly。 For

instance， once I spent nearly a whole day playing puter games。 Personally， we

university students are already adults and its our obligation to develop

ourselves in college by learning new professional skills。 Not until we take a

right attitude towards our study and life can we win a rich and colorful

experience in college。

Remember, the first day when I walk into our campus, I found the campus everywhere "care for the environment, everyone duty" signs, see the signs, I feel very happy, because I know, I live in the campus must be a beautiful environment, suitable for the place where we grow. However, the reality is very cruel and in our campus, always can see some disharmonious white trash, always can see the ground of debris-brick, I sad for it.

Today, who is destroying our campus environment, who has taken away the beauty of the campus? Everyone should know that it is us who destroy the campus environment. There are a lot of students who learn to "paint" on a clean wall. These bad behaviour, has attracted many students, however, we are always at the bottom of the moan, hardly anyone can bent down and picked up the ground of debris-brick; Few people can voluntarily erase the footprints on the wall. Is because of this, after the morning cleaning the health, in the afternoon, the campus is no longer beautiful, so today, here I take this opportunity to call for everyone: civilized and harmonious environment depends on everybody, let each of us to maintain the environment consciously, dont scribble on the wall, dont litter and pick up the waste paper.

I believe that as long as we everyone involved in protecting the environment, our campus will be bright blue sky, the wall of our campus more white, our campus will be beautiful and clean.

Development and the Environment

It is undeniable that the worsening environment has become the biggest concern of the present-day world. Land resources are dwindling because of water loss and soil erosion. Waste gases poison the air we breathe. The rivers and lakes are polluted by waste dumped in them from factories. It is probably no exaggeration to say that deterioration of the quality of the environment threatens the existence of mankind itself.

Some people are of the opinion that the environmental problem is the price we have to pay for economic development. But I do not think that this argument is valid. After all, what is the point of economic growth if people＇s lives are adversely alfected by worsening environmental pollution?

There is plenty of evidence to show that sustainable development can be achieved by balancing economic growth with protection of the environment. The key to achieving this is to make people aware of the seriousness of the problem. Both governments and ordinary citizens should join hands to make this world a better place to live in, not only for ourselves, but also for future generations.

环境与发展

不可否认的是环境恶化已成为当今世界上人们最担心的事了。因为水资源的浪费和土壤被侵蚀，土地资源逐渐缩小。我们呼吸着有毒的空气，河流和湖泊也被附近的工厂里排放出来的废弃物严重污染了。不夸大其词地说，环境质量的恶化很可能威胁人类的生存。

有些人说环境问题是我们为经济发展所付出的代价。对此，我不敢苟同。如果人类的生活被日益恶化的环境污染所影响的话，那么，经济发展的意义何在?

足够的证据表明：经济发展与环境保护的平衡可以实现可持续发展。关键是使人们意识到问题的严重性。政府和普通市民两方都应该携手使地球成为更适合人类居住的地方，这不仅是为我们自己，也是为我们的后代。
