这场大马林鱼的征服不是战争的结束。回程是快乐的。然而鲨鱼出现了。灰鲭鲨、加拉诺鲨、成群的鲨鱼……鱼叉、小刀、短棒，搏斗。他终于回到了岸。

老人是英雄。”它从鼻子到尾巴有十八英尺长，“那量鱼的渔夫叫道。那是老人拉回来的死鱼的残骸。从物质上来说，老人搏斗了三天三夜的结果是失败了;但从人的精神、从人的自信自尊，从人勇于和命运作竭尽全力的抗争来说，圣提亚哥取得了胜利。他是真正的英雄。使人潸然泪下的绝对会是那副残骸，那是英雄胜利的祭品也是胜利品，只有它才配走上人类最圣洁的祭坛。那是人内心深处最高大的地方。

说到底，人的真正胜利也只能是精神的胜利。人在物质上无论取得多大的成就，都不能赢得我们崇高的敬意。而只有精神和气魄的胜利，才使我们感动，才使我们和追随老人的孩子一样，为他的悲壮落泪。

整篇文章，其实就是人和自然的决斗，是人战胜自我，征服自我，超越极限的争斗。老人其实是人类的化身。海是人类征服的一切。人类的不完美让人类追求，人类的追求成就着人类的完美。人性的光辉体现在这部巨着中诠释了人活着应有的品格，人活着为了什么。那就是:人应该是乐观的，不屈服的对待一切;人应该是有耐性的，一切的诸如贫穷、饥饿、战争……都会过去，面对困难永不言败;人应该是多情的，情感生爱，对对手的赞美和爱能增强征服困难的乐趣和勇气;人应该是勇敢的，无畏无惧，不屈从于困境，困境就会退却。

海平面上，旭日东升，海水泛着点点金光。天的尽头，与大海相交，海天一色。那片金光，是胜利的呼唤！

海边，一幢小木屋。残破，摇摇欲坠。里面住着一位老人，陪伴他的，只有一个小男孩、一艘破船，还有梦中的狮子。老人已经八十四天没捕到鱼了。一天，他修补着渔网，目光锐利的穿过窗口，眺望远方。拿起略有锈迹却依然锋利的鱼叉，他再次出海。

人是不会一直走霉运的，上天终于垂青于他，他成功的捕到了一条大马林鱼。可命运总是和他开玩笑，他出海太远了，回去的路上要经过一片鲨鱼带。老人虽凭借丰富的经验，但最终寡不敌众，拖回海滩的，只剩下一副白色的挂着零星碎肉的骨架。

看了这本书，我的心久久不能平静。老人有一句誓言：一个人可以输，但绝不可以被打败！桑提亚哥用生命在践行这句誓言，也在用生命演绎着自己的誓言。

人性是强悍的，人类本身有自己的极限，但桑提亚哥一次又一次的挑战他的极限，从而使他的极限一次又一次的扩大，以便迎接更大的挑战。不管成功与否，他都是可敬的。

人生中，耐性也十分重要，谁的耐性好，谁就能笑到最后。老人有种不达目的就不罢休的气势。他也有技巧、有信心。他在与鲨鱼的搏斗中，鱼叉被刺死鲨鱼带走了，他就把小刀绑在桨把上，继续与鲨鱼周旋，刀子折断了，他就用短棍，甚至舵把。这种充满信心、锲而不舍的精神，值得我们学习。

小说最后，他虽然只带回了一副鱼骨架，他输了，输给了鲨鱼群。不过，他并没有被打败。他犹如一面旗帜，屹立不倒，迎着海风猎猎作响。

桑提亚哥，一个年近六旬的老渔夫，他是一个战士、一个英雄、一个传奇，“一个人可以输，但绝不可以被打败！”这句话镌刻在他生命的丰碑上，熠熠生辉。

老人拖着疲倦的身躯，走回那幢残破的小木屋，躺在吱呀作响的床板上。他睡了，他需要休息。老人睡的很香，他又梦到了狮子，伴着灿灿金光。夕阳西沉，染红了天边的云彩，映红了海面，海天一色……

绝不低头，笑对挫折。可以输，但绝不可以被打败！
