Harassed by the evil Legree ,Tom displays his Christian charity by refusing to flog another slave .Simon Legree may not own Tom’s soul ,but he can do as he chooses with the body, and he orders two of his slaves, Sambo and Quimba, to whip the unresisting Tom, whose only responses to the merciless beating is a plea to stop in order that Legree might save his own soul.

On his deathbed, Tom charitably forgives the harsh Legree. Ironically, he lives long enough to witness the arrival of his former master’s son, come to redeem the family pledge by buying him back and granting his freedom.

The theme of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, for its all apparent simplicity, is representative of much of 19th century American fiction of the good man opposed by evil personified under the circumstance of slavery.

What strikes me is Tom’s loyalty to his religious belief. He works from dawn till dusk every day and even till midnight when it is the harvest season. He seldom enjoys leisure with other farmers even if the farm work is not much. He chooses to live a busy life with reluctance to stop for a while.

Father devotes all himself to our family. As we are poor, he always tries his best to support our family and afford the tuitions for my brother and me. For the whole family, for brother and me, he never stops working laboriously in the fields throughout the year. Now he has got a wrinkled face and white hair because of excessive hard work, looking much older and weaker than any other person of his age. In spite of all this, father never complains to us. It is his full devotion that were living a better life now. It is his full devotion that both my brother and I are able to study at college.Father shows much care to us children and my mother as well. Whenever there is any delicious food on the table, he just leaves it to us while he takes the simple one himself. If my brother and I fall ill, he will not hesitate a moment to get some medicine for us or take us to see the doctor. My mother suffers a bad disease. Father looks after her very carefully. 今天我读了《中外名人故事》这一本书。

这本书讲述了很多名人小时候的故事。有的名人是在逆境中成长起来的，有的则是一开始就是在贵族家庭出生并受到良好教育的。

我喜欢“经天纬地，旷世奇才——诸葛亮”。诸葛亮一生博闻强记，深谋远虑，是一位不可多得的政治家和军事家。他是从逆境中成长起来的。他很小的时候便父母双亡，于是他便和叔父流落异乡。后来，诸葛亮的叔父客死他乡，他便在襄阳隆中定居下来。接下来，又有了三顾茅庐的故事。他死去后，留给后世的只有神话一般的人物和机智。

我最喜欢的是“软件大王——比尔盖茨”。比尔盖茨是第一个软件大王，世界首富。他从小精力过人而且极爱思考，一迷上某事便能全身心投入。当他15岁时，他的电脑才能已远近闻名了。

这本书收纳了很多名人的故事，还告诉我们一个道理：要坚持不懈，不可以半途而废，这样才可以成大事。
