This innovative personification of an animal made the book a real success. Readers heard the stories straight from the horse’s mouth, literally, as an animal spoke of extremes of joy and suffering. People were shocked by the truth exposed by the novel and changed their attitudes towards animals.

Sewell formed the novel with three kinds of characters: Black Beauty, Ginger and other farm animals. Through their different experiences, I saw similarly painful lives led by the animals. This method made the earnest appeal for animal rights become more and more persuasive.

As a domestic animal, Black Beauty was continuously sold from one family to another. Over the years Beauty enjoyed good masters but also endured mean ones. 《小故事大道理》中的其中一篇讲了：如果在一件大事中，你和对方吵架，只要你肯认错，你就不会后悔。从前有三只蜥蜴，它们都是好朋友，但有一只身体的颜色和另外两只不一样，与周围环境也不一样。于是它们讨论怎样才能隐蔽自己，可是它们都有不同的答案，于是它们吵了起来了。一只蜥蜴说要不搬走，一只说要不改变环境适应自己。但第三只说：“为什么一定要环境适应我们，为什么我们就不能适应环境呢？”那只皮肤不同的蜥蜴借助阳光和阴影，学会了逐渐改变自己的肤色，练成了高超的隐蔽本领。

所以当我们无法改变别人，无法改变环境时，不防换个角度，换种思维方法，试着改变自己。自己改变了，眼中的世界也会随之改变。

所以，《小故事大道理》讲了：坚强、自信、勇敢、带着微笑、认真、仔细、先改变自己……

在工作中，有时候我们会认为我们为公司付出了很多，但是却得到了一点的回报，于是我们自暴自弃，我们不在努力。殊不知，我们已经停止了成长，我们对公司带来的利益越来越小，因此我们得到的回报也就越来越少，慢慢的我们将不在重要，我们是公司80%的人，我们为公司仅仅带来了20%的效益。最终，我们将会成为被裁减的人。但是如果我们不在乎我们得到了多少，我们还一如既往的努力，甚至我们会加倍努力。假设我们开始的时候付出了一百份努力，得到了20份回报，我们的付出占到公司总付出的10%。如果我们付出了150份努力，我们就会得到30份回报。我们的付出占的公司总付出的15%。如果我们再加倍努力，加倍成长，当公司相当一部分利润是由我们创造的时候，没有任何一个公司会不给我们增加报酬。我们在公司的地位就会越来越重要，没有人能再随便撼动我们的地位了。

第二个寓言故事《孩子在为谁玩》。当孩子把玩当成已经是自己快乐的事，自己的事的时候，即便是没有一点酬劳他们也会很高兴。然后，当孩子们把玩当成是为了别人而玩，也就把玩当成了一份工作了。如果他们觉得他们的报酬远远低于他们为了工作而付出的劳动的时候，他们就对工作失去兴趣。如果他们得到的报酬越来越低的时候，他们就会放弃这份工作，转而寻求其他的。

这则寓言教会我们一件事情，有些事情表面上可能很难处理，但是如果我们换一种方法，也许会达到更好的效果。

我把米放在叶子里，可米全撒在了桌上，我生气极了。姐姐对我说：“你要把叶子做成一个三角形的样子，然后再把米放进去啊!”

于是，我按照姐姐说的步骤作了一遍，在米上按了按，咦?旁边那个盘子中间放的是什么?原来是肉馅哦!我在糯米中间挖了一个小洞洞，把肉馅弄成圆状，塞入糯米中，让它也加入糯米的行列中。可怎么封好呢?我看了眼姐姐，就明白了一切。

我把翘起来的一片叶子按下来，并用绳子用力的扎紧。成功啦!我按照前面的方法，包了好多个。现在就要下锅了，先是把水烧开，然后把粽子放下去。

过了一会儿，粽子煮好了。大家四人坐在桌子旁，吃起了粽子。

我把绳子解开，正想把叶子摘掉，可我一碰，就被烫着了。姐姐看了，哈哈的笑了起来。我吹着吹着，把让热气吹走了。我再次小心翼翼的将叶子掀开，吃起了自己亲手做的香喷喷的粽子来——白白胖胖的糯米中间，包着一团鲜汁可口的肉馅，放入口中，不油不腻，又有嚼劲，感觉太好了!
