广阔的沙漠，是自由，也是禁锢。

灰尘，沙粒，在三毛的眼里，便成了诗情画意的想念。刚开始没有刷白灰，地面凹凸不平，没有家具的，简陋，甚至破败的房屋，在三毛的艺术和双手的改造下，竟成了沙漠最美的房子。最记忆深刻的是她和河西自己动手做了家具，事后知道是棺材木，她竟然更加高兴，她的放诞不羁和爽直也可见一斑了。而她积极乐观的心态，让我们觉得她去的竟不像是沙漠了。文化的差异，资源的匮乏没有影响到她，按她的话说，是将无忧无虑的生活和中国大饭店搬到了撒哈拉。
