In 1829, a horde of 20,000 Inaugural callers forced President Andrew Jackson to flee to the safety of a hotel while, on the lawn, aides filled washtubs with orange juice and whiskey to lure the mob out of the mud-tracked White House.

After Abraham Lincolns presidency, Inaugural crowds became far too large for the White House to accommodate them comfortably. However, not until Grover Clevelands first presidency did this unsafe practice change. He held a presidential review of the troops from a flag-draped grandstand built in front of the White House. This procession evolved into the official Inaugural parade we know today. Receptions on New Years Day and the Fourth of July continued to be held until the early 1930s.

President Clintons open house on January 21, 1993 renewed a venerable White House Inaugural tradition. Two thousand citizens, selected by lottery, were greeted in the Diplomatic Reception Room by President and Mrs. Clinton and Vice President and Mrs. Gore.

I still remember the year when I failed the collage entrance exmination.Iwas feeling lost,and no idea about what my life is going to be.My teachet came to me,and she said she understand how I felt inside now.She also told me its very common that students who are like me will go though a hard time. She told me that failure was a part of life, which was not the end but a new beginning. And she encouraged me to go back to the school to start a new. The earliest records are from the time of the great Han dynasty emperor Wu Di， who initiated celebrations lasting three days， including banquets and “Viewing the Moon” evenings on the Toad Terrace. We know that people during the Jin dynasty (265-420 A.D.) continued the custom of Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations， and similar accounts have come down to us from the time of the Tang dynasty. During the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) houses and gardens were decorated with numerous lanterns and the sound of gongs and drums filled the air.

I have a happy family. There are my father, mother, and a lovely me at home. Dad loves watching TV and working, too. He doesnt have time to accompany me every night. 客厅里的摆放比较简洁：一套大方得体的沙发、一台壁挂电视、一个玻璃茶几……靠近电视机的十字绣特别引人注目，那是姑姑送给我们的，全家人都很喜欢，就挂在了正墙上。

客厅向南是一个宽敞明亮的阳台，阳台上摆放着许多花草。爸爸喜欢养花种草，但都不是什么名贵的，用爸爸的话说，那就是“绿化美化一下环境”。但阳台上的这些花草，真的让我们这个家增添了不少的绿意和生机。

到我的卧室来瞧瞧吧。床上挂着紫色的蚊帐，墙上贴着卡通人物，是不是感觉有些与众不同?特别是那些卡通人物，什么多啦A梦呀、维尼熊呀，一个快上初中的学生的，是不是还有些童心未泯呢?

在我的卧室中，最惹眼的是那个书柜，那可是我的心肝宝贝，里面的书虽然算不上是“应有尽有”，但也算是个“小小图书馆”了。我的藏书中，数量最多的当数杨红樱的小说了，我可是杨红樱忠实的“小书迷”，用当今流行的话说就是“粉丝”，只要是出自她笔下的文字我感觉是百看不厌。
