在世界各地也因为人们过度砍伐森林，过度猎杀动物，使原有的生态平衡被打破，生态也受到了十分严重的打击。比如说“象牙海滩”，它地处热带西欧，高温多雨，有大片原始森林，适合大象生殖繁衍。随着欧洲殖民主义者入侵，成群结队的大象成了人们捕猎谋财的对象。象牙买卖在这片海岸上也日益兴旺，“象牙海滩”因此得名。
