As we all realized that every one of us will fail during our life. Take me

for an example, I fail in my exam. In fact, failure always does appear, which

also means that failure is a daily occurrence, however, when facing the failure,

different people have different attitudes.

Some people hold the view that failure is the meaning whenever they could

not be successful. Thus, if meeting with failure, they will feel so nervous that

they have no idea what they are supposed to do. As time goes by, they become

more and more dispirited while eventually, they could do nothing well.

On the contrary, there are some people tending to believe another idea.

From their point of view, failure is outstanding due to the fact that it can

give them plenty of encouragement. Therefore, if facing failure, they will be

quite courageous and then try their best to beat it, finally, they make their

dream come true.

From my perspective, failure is neither an excellent thing nor an

appreciating thing. Sometimes, it is capable to offer us with encouragement,

however, it can also make us unconfident now and then. Thus, if encountering the

failure, never could we be scared. What we should do is to face it bravely and

never give up.

In summary, I wish when failure appears, each one of us could confront with

it bravely and beat it, if possible.

Like tangible cultural heritages such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden

City, intangible cultural heritages like Peking Opera and

Confucius-commemorating rituals are equally crucial. We should make our utmost

efforts to preserve intangible heritages because, without their physical form of

existence, they are in greater risk of extinction.

According to UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible

Cultural Heritage (2003), all forms of social customs and habits, folklore,

performing arts, rituals, oral traditions, festivals, traditional crafts and

various knowledge and practices about nature and universe can be classified as

intangible cultural heritages. As a country consisting of a great diversity of

ethnic groups and with time-honored history and civilization, China abounds in

intangible cultural heritages. Cultural heritages connect modern people with the

historical past, allowing them to acquire a cultural and historical identity.

Without cultural heritages, we would be rendered absolutely rootless and we

would find it hard to cope with challenges at present and in the future.

However, the modernization process poses mounting threats to intangible

heritages. Many people have a blind faith in the latest electronic devices. It

is also pathetic to see elderly people in possession of such legacies pass away

without transmitting them to the younger generation. Faced with those

challenges, we should both preserve and renovate our ancestral heritages so that

we can help contribute to the cultural diversity of the world and return to our

spiritual homeland in this age of impersonal science and technology.

Thank you for a rapid response to our invitation. Enclosed you will find an outline of events to take place during International Week here at the University of Montana. I will also list a number of possible speaking engagements so that you can choose those things in which you are most interested. As far as topics are concerned, the topics for classroom visits are generally determined by the professor, but most professors are very flexible. We have approximately thirty-five faculty members that teach courses in Asian Studies, ranging from language and culture to history and economics.

Here is a tentative schedule:

10 am - Cultural Exhibition opens

12 am - International Festival begins with a speech by the university president and an introduction of visiting dignitaries

1-5 pm - Opportunity to visit festival, interact with student performers, taste foods

6 pm - Dinner with Director of Mansfield Center Phil West, Ambassador Mark Johnson, and staff of Mansfield Center

记得我四岁的时候，爸爸送我去体工队学游泳，当我到那里的时候，教练只是粗略地教了我一个蹬腿，就用竹竿把我牵到了深水区，然后把竹竿一收，我立即像个秤砣一样沉下了水底。这次经历对我影响很大，有一段时间经常做恶梦。后来的几年里，爸爸妈妈为了让我学会游泳，费了不少心思，但始终没有学会。

今年暑假，妈妈学校的一个教授开游泳培训班，由教授的学生担任助教。妈妈把我送去学习。开始我还不敢下水，后面经过妈妈和教练的一番鼓励之后，我才下了水。开始，教练教我学憋气：先在水面使劲地吸一大口气，然后沉到水底，用鼻子把嘴里的气慢慢呼出来。憋气就学会了。第二天，教练教我学漂浮：漂浮的时候不要把手往下压，这样会沉到水底。第三天，教练教我学蹬腿。教练告诉我说：“蹬腿的时候，姿势一定要标准，不然会游不远的。”到了第四天，教练教我学换气，开始我只换了一口气;到了最后一天，我终于学会换气了!我终于学会游泳了!

我终于学会游泳了!爸爸妈妈和我都十分开心。爸爸说：“学会一样本领，一辈子受益无穷。”我一想起我以后游泳时不用带游泳圈了，心里就美滋滋的……

the longing summer vacation is approaching, it is the best part of the school year for me. i cannot let the holidays elapse (逝去) meaninglessly, my vacation should be a phase (时期、阶段) of harvest. the events in my plan should give me a sense of infinite potential.

the following plan may reveal the intensity of my desire to travel, work and study in this vacation. in the first few days i want to climb mount hua shan with several friends to refresh ourselves. then i tend to visit relatives, senior school teachers and former classmates(老同学). besides, to find out the best ways to cultivate my abilities, i will find a part time job and conduct some social investigation.

in short, i want to do interesting things in the summer vacation. whatever i do, the goal is the same: to get necessary experience, acquire knowledge and broaden my horizons. though the six week vacation will pass away at lightning speed, its influence is bound to last long.

我家有个葡萄架暑假里我最爱在枝叶茂盛的葡萄架下乘凉。葡萄一串串挂在架子上远远望去，真像一串串紫 水晶。

细看葡萄的每个部分，那是别有风味的。葡萄的藤蔓很柔软，缠着竹架子绕着一圈圈的往上爬，直到把枝叶送到顶上，盖住了整个架子。但如果你想弄断藤条，他就会静脉现出强的韧劲，让你怎么也弄不断。它的叶子大大的好像一只大人的手掌，一只只手掌遮在加子上，为我们挡住了阳光，带来了凉爽。葡萄的花开得很低调，绿色的，然后就在聚满花的柄上，结出了一颗颗圆圆的葡萄。葡萄从绿色渐渐的变成紫色，到它成熟了，我们就会摘下最大，最深的几串儿来吃。葡萄的味道，是夏季我最爱吃的水果。

我喜欢葡萄，因为它会在夏天带来给我凉爽酸甜，更带给我暑假悠闲的回忆。

我躺在寝室的床上常常想：家是什么味道?甜甜的?酸酸的?却总是想不出来。我猜，可能是许久没有回家，再次回到家才能尝出来吧。

上初中后，我面临平生第一次住校。第一个星期的每一天，只要停下来就想家，想妈妈。晚自习做完作业后，我就不自觉得想起了家来，眼泪也随之流了出来。晚上躺在床上更想妈妈，想那温馨的家。那不争气的眼泪悄悄地从我的眼角流出来，把枕头打湿了一大片。最终漫长的一个星期就这样艰难地熬了过来。

放学后，我便迫不及待地坐车回家。想着一次又一次的电话打完后，留下的一双红肿的眼睛，不免有些心酸。一到家一个猛扑，扑向了妈妈的怀抱，又哭了起来。我冲进了我的房间，一切都没有变，还是原先的老样貌。妈妈每一天都打扫我的房间，没落下一点灰尘。我走遍了家，每一处都留下了我的脚印，却还是不明白家的味道是什么。

我在房间静静地写着作业，一阵阵饭菜的香味飘进了我的房间，早已空扁的肚子促使我迅速走向了饭桌。我眼前一亮，桌上全是我喜欢吃的饭菜：红烧鲫鱼，冬瓜炖排骨，肉片炒青菜，油麦菜等等。我立刻端起饭碗开始“大开杀戒”。妈妈看我狼吞虎咽的样貌，笑着对我说：“慢点吃，女孩子家家的，别吃那么快，又没人跟你抢。”我这才放慢速度，慢慢品尝。我妈的厨艺可是一级棒，我慢慢地感受到了家的味道，可又捕捉不到。

我到此刻都没弄清楚家的味道，只是隐隐约约感受到：家是温暖的，它可能是饭菜的味道，也可能是家人的关怀，但它没有一个具体的味道，它能够是任何东西，但它必须需要你去用心感受才能体会得到。

这天，阳光明媚，热浪滚滚。我们首先去了乌石塘景区。从那里我感受了坐渔船拔蟹笼的乐趣。这是一个三面环山、一面正对着大海的海湾，我们跨上小渔船出海啦!不多久，船上的大娘问：“要不要捕蟹?”我们说：“好啊，好啊!”一帮人就乐呵呵地开工了。

大娘告诉我们，蟹笼是用绳子穿起来，系上浮标，沉在海滩底下，蟹笼里放上些饵料，蟹就会爬进去的。我抓着绳子使劲拽起来一个蟹笼，里面居然爬着三只虽小却壮实的海螃蟹。我们共拽上8只蟹笼，有的蟹笼里有1只，有的2只，有的没有，而我居然最多。最后数了数共捕到了10多只海蟹，就在大娘的船上现蒸了吃，真是美味啊!

中午美美地睡了个午觉，趁着太阳不再那么毒辣了，就一起奔向我最喜欢的海滨浴场。一进入浴场，就看见黑压压的很多人在玩水。蔚蓝的天空中白云朵朵，海风阵阵，海鸥飞翔。潮起潮落，碧波荡漾，浪花一下又一下拍打着礁石，冲刷着软绵绵的沙滩。

快乐的人们有的在迎着涌潮踏浪，有的在乘坐水上摩托，有的在沙滩上玩沙，挖沙坑，堆沙人，做沙雕。我和爸爸看到湛蓝的天空下涌动的海浪，兴奋不已，迫不及待地一头扎入带着腥味的海水。浪很大，一个接一个打过来。

突然，一个大浪扑面而来，把我们卷进了海的大肚子里，我一下子什么也看不到了，只听到爸爸叫了一声：“我的眼镜!”原来这个大浪把他的眼镜冲掉了。很快又听到他兴奋的声音：“找到了，找到了!”原来是他匆忙中胡乱一把抓到了，同时他的脚居然还勾起来了一副泳镜。一会儿有人来找泳镜，我们就还给了他。

开心快乐的一天结束了，我也该离开大海温暖的怀抱，与美丽的朱家尖说再见。我期待着再来与大海的亲密接触。

Winter holiday is coming. I am so excited.

In this winter holiday, I am going to take a trip with my parents by plane.We are going to Beijing. Then, I am going to go ice skating there. I am going to see the snow. I will play with the snow. I am going to make a snowman with my sister. Then we are going to visit the Great wall. At last, we are going to go back home by plane.

为了庆祝这一天，我们国家放七天长假，让大家高高兴兴的休息。有的人带着孩子去旅游，有的带着孩子去秋游，还有的带着孩子去超市、逛大街、进公园，大家都玩的特别开心。回家时大家都提着大包小包，有吃的，有穿的，有用的，还有学习用品和书籍。爸爸妈妈告诉我，现在生活真幸福，好像芝麻开花节节高，这应该感谢党的改革开放政策好。

国庆节的夜晚更加美丽，街上有各种各样的宫灯，五彩缤纷，还有人行道上火树银花星星点点，闪闪发光，使人看后流连忘返。

一下车，我们就按班级依次在空地上集合，等侯老师的“冲锋”号令。小喇叭里终于响起了年级主任的声音：“各班注意，10点40分停车场集合”。同学们“呼啦”一下就散开了，一个个争先恐后地向659米高的蟒山山顶进发。我也不甘落后，甩开脚步向前追赶，良好的身体素质使我很快就进入了登山的“第一集团军”。上山的台阶越来越陡，路越来越窄，左右的同学也越来越少，每登上一个台阶，都要大喘一口粗气，豆大的汗珠在我的额头上跳起了欢快的舞蹈。但我心里只有一个念头：再累也要登上蟒山山顶。

功夫不负有心人，经过三十五分钟的艰辛努力，我终于站在了山顶上。站在山顶，我贪婪地吮吸着山上清新的空气，心中充满了无限的自豪与喜悦。仰望天空，我看到深秋的天像大海一样湛蓝，好像用秋雨洗刷过，朵朵白云犹如扬帆起航的轻舟，慢悠悠地飘浮在我们头顶，好一个秋高气爽啊!山顶那条150米的长廊，好似一条长龙俯卧在云雾之中，长廊中那一幅幅壁画又仿佛是在向我们轻轻诉说着那一个个古老的传说。

站在山顶，远处那连绵起伏的山岭，微波粼粼的十三陵水库尽收眼底。近处的山上有几棵枫树，枫树叶火红火红的，好似天边的晚霞一样迷人。正像诗人杜牧所写的“霜叶红于二月花”。这山顶的景色可真美呀!哪怕看一眼，准叫你心醉!“时间差不多了，咱们下山吧”。同组小伙伴的一声召唤，提醒我集合的时间快到了，我恋恋不舍地向山下走去。

集合了所有的同学，我们又向“蜜蜂谷”进军。走进蜜蜂谷，就像进入了蜜蜂王国，里面关于蜜蜂的知识应有尽有，为数不多的几只小蜜蜂围着我们飞来飞去，热情地欢迎我们这些小客人。走出“蜜蜂谷”，早已饿得饥肠咕噜的我们终于可以在那尊石雕大佛像前开餐了。这是一尊面目慈善的弥勒大佛，高达9。9米，重1500余吨，由200块5―10吨重的花岗岩雕刻砌成，是目前我国北方地区最大的一尊石雕大佛。我们纷纷爬上大佛和它合影留念，感受它的慈爱和宽容。此时，我忘记了一切烦恼，把自己的整个身心溶入到了大自然中，我感到无比的快乐。

这次秋游让我深深地明白了秋的美丽，秋的喜悦，也深深地体会到了山的深情，山的伟大，更重要的是我感悟到了我们学习不也是在“登山”吗?不错，我在学习上确实遇到了前所未有的挑战，碰到了许多困难，但我坚信自己通过努力一定能战胜困难，去攀登知识的高峰。只有付出，才有收获，我要用百倍的努力去迎接期中考试的检验，这就是我此次秋游登山最大的收获。

I noticed an ad. In the paper today you said you were looking for people to join your expedition team. It sounded as if it might be fun so Im writing to say Id like to come along.

About myself: I left school at 16 because I wanted to earn a bit of money. After that I got a few part-time jobs as a waiter, etc. But I didnt stick to any of them for long. Recently Ive been doing a bit of hitch-hiking round Europe so Ive had some experience of traveling the hard way which should come in handy on the expedition youre planning. By the way, Im a great guitarist so I can keep you all amused round the campfire at night.

Let me know when I can call in for a chat about dates and other details, etc.

我又迟到了 I Am Late Again

I opened my eyes in the morning and looked at the clock. "Oh, dear! Its

half past seven already. Ill be late again," I thought. Without breakfast, I

hurried to school. But it began to rain hard.

早晨我睁开眼睛，看看钟表，“天啊!已经七点半了。我又要迟到了，”我想。没有吃早饭，我就匆匆朝学校赶去，可是天又下起雨来。

When I got to the classroom, the maths teacher had already begun his

lesson. It was Mr wang. All of us were afraid of him. I didnt like him, or his

lessons. I opened the door. " Im late again, Mr Wang."

当我到教室时，数学老师已经开始讲课了。是王老师，所有的学生都怕他。我不喜欢他，也不喜欢他的课。我打开门，“王老师，我又迟到了。”

"Ive told you not to be late, but you ..." he said angrily. But suddenly

he stopped, and looked at my clothes. He quickly took off his own jacket and

望着远处银色的月光下笼罩的楼寓窗口里射出的一束束灯光，恬静中竟会产生一种感觉，明月下，天涯一方，犹如咫尺之间。望着那静谧的夜空上渐渐圆满的明月真象一个大玉盘，向大地倾泻着银色的光辉，我不禁想起了张九龄的诗句。“海上升明月，天涯共此时”。
