第一次钟声是春节的象征。中国人喜欢到一个大广场，那里有为除夕设置的大钟。随着春节的临近，他们开始倒计数并一起庆祝。

人们相信了大钟的撞响可以驱除霉运，带来好运。近年来，有些人开始去山上寺庙等待第一次钟声。苏州的寒山寺就非常著名，它的钟声宣布春节的到来。现在有许多外国人也去寒山寺庆祝春节。

From then on, the tradition of observing the conquest of Nian is carried on  from generation to generation. The term "Guo Nian", which may mean "Survive the  Nian" becomes today "Celebrate the (New) Year" as the word "guo" in Chinese  having both the meaning of "pass-over" and "observe". The custom of putting up  red paper and firing fire-crackers to scare away Nian should it have a chance to  run loose is still around. However, people today have long forgotten why they  are doing all this, except that they feel the color and the sound add to the  excitement of the celebration.

今天是大年三十，只要等到半夜，就可以吃我那盼望以久的年夜饭啦！

终于可以吃饭了！姥姥笑着对我们说：“这三盘饺子了有四个硬币、两个红枣和两个冰糖，谁要是吃到了一年都会有好运！” 本来不想吃饭的我，听了这话，就立刻开始吃饺子了。忽然，我老爷大声喊到：“我吃到了一个冰糖！”然后，我爸爸又吃到了两个红枣；妈妈吃到了一个硬币。我立刻加快了速度。真是功夫不复有心人。果然，我一口吃到了两个硬币，恨不得一蹦“八”尺高！ 我再次快速的吃了起来。可是，又一个冰糖被“抢”走。紧接着，我又吃了许多饺子。忽然，我嘴里感觉甜丝丝的。“是冰糖！”我大喊到。可是反过来一想，怎么会有三个冰糖呢？这使我疑惑不解。

原来，我爸爸为了让我吃饭，才想此“计谋”的，这饺子里包得哪里是冰糖、红枣，分明是家长们对我的爱啊！
