每逢春节，甘肃的各个境内便要大型举办一次文化娱乐活动----社火。“社火”，顾名思义，于“火”有关，离不开烟火。社火有白天的和夜晚的，分别叫做“白社火”，“黑社火”。

民间通过把古代戏剧人物化装出来，通过铁芯子，高跷，骑马等等表现各种姿势，演唱。而现代，形式更繁多了，将耍狮子，闹灯笼，游旱船，跑秧歌，打腰鼓，太平鼓，春牛，跑驴等等统称为社火的范畴。
