每年的四五月份是大熊猫的繁殖季节，雄雌大熊猫难得同居在一起。雌性大熊猫怀孕4-5个月左右，就急着寻找树洞或石穴作为“产房”，它每胎产1-2只小熊猫。

大熊猫的家族非常古老。大约在一百万年前，他们遍布我国的陕西，山西和北京等地区，在云南，四川，浙江，福建，台湾等省也有他们的踪迹，现在留下来的数量很少，成为科学家研究生物进化的珍贵的“活化石”。
