地球上备考雅思的同学都知道，雅思作文分成两篇，一篇是看图表写作文（小作文），另一篇是根据话题写观点类（大作文）。写作都需要构思，我们从上学时期就开始就某观点写文章，所以大作文的构思还是比较接近我们的教育内容的。而看图写文章呢，虽然我们从小学时代就开始写这类文章，但是此图非彼图，那时的我们写的是做好事，拾金不昧啦，扶老奶奶过马路啦，都是叙事性文章，写完事件还要抒情一番。但是呢，雅思小作文要我们写的是理性描述客观数据或过程，不需要感慨性的结尾。很多同学，特别是文科出身的，就觉得大脑转换不过来了，开始害怕甚至抵触小作文，简直就要放弃小作文了。别急，只要对症下药，小作文——还是有救的。

小作文种类不少，根据图表的不同，我们把它分成线图，饼图，柱状图，表格，地图，流程图，物品比较图（出题频率非常非常低，备考时间紧张的同学可以暂时忽略）这几种。当我们面对一篇小作文时，首先要看的是它属于哪种类型的图，不同的图表题，有不同的思路和专门的词汇。以线图为例，在下笔前我们需要看横纵坐标，看数据，线的走向；专门的词汇就根据线图的特点应运而生啦，根据线的走向就会有上升（increase）、下降（decrease）、波动（fluctuate）等。(至于小作文的用词推荐《十天突破雅思写作》中的词汇，针对性非常强。)

正是因为这个原因，很多考生在写小作文时就完全把自己禁锢在这几种分类了，只要是线图就一定按线图的思路，如果是饼图就一定按饼图的百分比来写。殊不知，这样会局限自己的思路，有时候选择的写法是最难写，又不易拿分的。

因此，从大局上来说，首先我们在观察小作文图表时，应当灵活，不必拘泥于题目给出的形式。比如说，一些题目表面给出的是柱状图，但是仔细看过后，发现这些图是有上升下降变化趋势的，那么这个时候我们就按线图的思路来写。有的题目又以饼图的面目出现，一下子给出三张饼图，可是分析过这几幅图的关系，发现不同项目所占比例也是有升降变化的，那此时也可以按线图的思路来写。一句话表明，就是先观察大局，再观察数据细节。

观察图表的大局确定写作思路，那就要求我们对几种图表的思路有很好的把握。首先看一下线图的思路。

面对任何一种图表，都要先认真审题，包括图表标题，单位等，总之各种微小的单词文字都要尽收眼底，才不会出一些误差性错误。当我们拿到线图的作文，看完上述细节后，就是看本图的横纵坐标及其对应的项目和数字特点,此时要注意单位不要漏写；接下来看线段的条数及走向，这个跟我们文章的段落分配有很大关系。

其实小作文分段无所谓对错，怎么分段都可以。但是，在众多分段方法中，一定是有较优方案的。这里的分段方法仅供参考，并不是唯一的。如果图表中只有一条线段，那么除掉开头、结尾段，中间的主体段（描述具体数据的段落）既可以写一段，也可以根据图表中线段起伏特点来分成两段等。比如图表中给出的是一年中货物的销售量，前半年销售高，后半年略低，那边就可以按年份分成两段。

当遇到的图表有两条线段时，可以先考虑是否适合分两个主体段描述，如果这两条线段关联性非常强，更适合同时描述的话，也可以写成一段。

在面对有三条及以上线段的图表题时，我们就要观察这些线段是否有走向一致或相反的情况，如果有，这些一致货相反走向的线段就可以同时写。因为这样不仅清晰，而且简明易懂。

为什么单单一个线图的思路就说这么多呢？因为我们都知道小作文的字数要求是不少于150单词，而实践中呢，学生往往会出现两种情况，一是无话可说，觉得没什么可介绍的；二是滔滔不绝，下笔如有神。这两个都需要避免：情况一好解决，只要过了新手这个阶段就好，属于一个自然过度期；而情况二是需要自己有个简明的思路才能解决的。因为小作文的字数最好不要多于180字。雅思的官方要求是能简明的描述图表。在练习小作文时，要始终铭记一句话：让看不到图表的人，只读自己的文章就能在脑海中有图表的大致影像。

大部分情况下，英文是首句中心句，段落其他部分是支持中心句的内容，所以听到首句就是主要意思，因此这种模式相对简单，表示观点的词，比如赞成 (support, be for ,go for be on the side of, quite agree with)，中立( mutual, just so so, you can try it, not the best)，反对( not good, be against, not recommend, better avoid )，喜欢(be favor of, like, prefer)，一般态度(its ok, but)，不喜欢(dislike)，必须( must, it is necessary)，依情况而定( it depends)，没必要( not necessary)，等等。

妙计一： 避免空洞的单词和词组

1. 一些空洞的单词或词组根本不能为句子带来任何相关的或重要的信息，完全可以被删掉。比如下面的句子：

When all things are considered ， young adults of today live more satisfying lives than those of their parents， in my opinion.

这句话当中的 when all things are considered 和 in my opinion 都显得多余。完全可以去掉。改为：

Young adults of today live more satisfying lives than their parents.

2. 有些空洞和繁琐的表达方式可以进行替换，例如：

Due to the fact that our grandparents were under an obligation to help their parents， they did not have the options that young people have at this point in time.

due to the fact that 就是一个很典型的繁琐的表达方式的例子，可以替换，简化为下面的表达方式：

Because our grandparents were obligated to help their parents， they did not have the options that young people have now.

妙计二： 避免重复

1. 尽量避免重复使用同样的词汇。或者有的时候虽然词汇没有重复，但意思却有重复。这时候可以做一些简化的工作。例如下面这个例子： ：

就是这样一位众人眼中的小人物却在地球另一端的美国创办了一家特殊的网站。之所以说它特殊，是因为在这个界面简陋的网站上，随便输入任何一个汉字，人们都可以找到它的字形在历史上演变的过程——小篆、金文，甚至还能回溯几千年，看到它被刻在甲骨上的模样。这样的汉字字源网站即便是在中国，也绝无仅有，更不要提在大洋彼岸的美国。由于网站在网络上被广为传播，它的创办者——那位满头白发的美国老人，也一时间成为热门人物。甚至被网络称为：2011年，第一个感动中国的外国人。

网站的火爆是他所没想到的，更令他没想到的是自己会因网站而成名，在他60岁的花甲之年。为了创建那个网站，他花费了20年的时间和全部的存款，他身边的朋友和家人却几乎没有人觉得，那是一件有意义的工作。20年的时间很漫长，在漫长的时间长河里，他一个人在寂寞中坚持着……
