My Hometown

No matter where I am, I find it hard to resist the tempting call of my hometown. Situated at the northern tip of Anhui province, my hometown, Dangshan county, is the junction of four provinces. They are respectively in Anhui, Jiangsu, Shandong and Henan.

My hometown is the northern gate of Anhui province, located in the southern end of the Huanghuai plain, and also a bridgehead for the Eurasia continental bridge.

传说在远古时期，云南彝族地区年年五谷丰登，天王知道后极不高兴，于是派出灾神撒下许多害虫，企图毁灭庄稼，彝族先民想出办法，在夜里点起火把奔跑于田野，山坡，山寨，满山遍野的火把形成火海，像一条条火龙，人们见害虫就烧，“灭虫大战”持续了几天几夜，最终在农历6月24日这天灭尽了害虫，保住了庄稼。

为了庆祝胜利，彝族人民把这一天定为火把节，为你提供到了这一天，彝族男女老少早早就穿上新衣来到石林草场，白天举行摔跤、斗牛比赛，有成千上万的各族人才着大三旋载歌载舞，具有地方特色的小吃招待客人，到了晚上在火把节的住会场上举行着大型的民族歌舞晚会，晚会结束后，一堆堆熊熊燃烧的焰火、数不清的火把照亮了石林的夜晚，来自全国各地的游客围着焰火，举着火把尽情的跳舞一直到第二天的清晨才散去……

爸爸开始准备火把了，火把的材料主要是麦柴，为了它能保持直立，中间要放一条棍子，四周的麦柴由绳子扎起来，火把长约两米，直径约15厘米;妈妈开始在门前堆积麦柴了，堆柴也是有讲究的，麦柴每隔三四步堆一堆，有时好几家的柴堆连在一起，可以达到百米之长;而我忙着为父母做助手，想着能尽快开始;左邻右舍们也都马不停蹄准备着，经过我们齐心协力的准备，终于一切就绪了。鞭炮一响，火把节就正式开始了，先点燃柴堆，大家开始从“火堆”跳过去，跳火是为了保平安，把一年来所有的不顺利都“烧”去，期待来年身体健康，工作顺利，家庭和睦。跳完火之后，就点燃了火把，我们举着火把一直跑到山顶，从山顶鸟瞰村庄，眼前的景色美极了，家家户户的红灯笼与天上的星星交相辉映，分不清哪个是天，哪个是地，再加上五彩缤纷的烟花，看的人眼花缭乱，目不暇接，至今回想起来仍历历在目。

I am a third year master major in automation at Shanghai Jiao Tong

University, P. R. China. With tremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, I

am writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.

Education background

In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology

(NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. During

the following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished among

the whole department. I was granted First Class Prize every semester,In 1999, I

got the privilege to enter the graduate program waived of the admission

test.

At the period of my graduate study, my overall GPA(3.77/4.0) ranked top 5%

in the department. In the second semester, I became teacher assistant that is

given to talented and matured students only. This year, I won the Acer

Scholarship as the one and only candidate in my department, which is the

ultimate accolade for distinguished students endowed by my university.

Presently, I am preparing my graduation thesis and trying for the honor of

Excellent Graduation Thesis.

Research experience and academic activity

When a sophomore, I joined the Association of AI Enthusiast and began to

narrow down my interest for my future research. With the tool of OpenGL and

Matlab, I designed a simulation program for transportation scheduling system. It

is now widely used by different research groups in NUST. I assumed and fulfilled

a sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewage treatment plant. This

was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.

In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and

experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future research

interests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research

(especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network research, Hybrid

system performance analysis with Petri nets and Data Mining.

我的家乡真武场，原来jius坐落在綦江河边一个不起眼的小乡场。最近几年却声名远播，成为重庆市第二批历史文化名街区，江津区第五个古镇。这jius怎么回事呢？

原来，这和真武场现存的几幢古建筑有关。这儿保存有重庆市最集中的客家移民会馆群，那就jius广东客家会馆南华宫、福建客家会馆天上宫、江西客家会馆万寿宫和望乡台。听老辈人说，客家移民会馆就jius外省人到这儿来修的房子。百年前，真武场jius綦河边上的水码头，货船云集，人口兴隆，jius块风水宝地。很多外省人迁来这儿生活，他们为了方便同省的家乡人居住，就修建了这些客家会馆。它们都具有南方建筑的特色，庄重、纯朴。我看到这些会馆大门两边石门框上苍劲古朴的对联，粗大的柱子，残缺破损但原貌尚存的墙壁，雕花的窗格，弧形高大的围墙，仿佛让我们看到了当年的繁华热闹。

在真武场东面的小山上，客家人修了一幢建筑，名叫“望乡台”。多么富有诗意的名字啊！让人想起唐朝大诗人王维的名句：“独在异乡为异客，每逢佳节倍思亲。”家乡，jius我们生根发芽的地方，jius我们感情寄托的地方，jius我们永远不能忘怀的地方。客家人的思乡之情，激起了我对家乡更加的热爱。

本来另外还有好几处客家会馆建筑，但在三十年前因为建设新房子被拆掉了，真可惜！比如我们真武小学以前就jius“三元庙”的旧址，这儿曾经jius真武场最大的古庙宇，许多四十岁以上的人都还记得当年建筑的样子。据说jius三个外来的和尚筹钱修建的。“三个和尚没水吃”的故事家喻户晓，但我们这儿的三个和尚团结友爱，不但修好了雄伟的建筑，还在后面挖了一口深井。井水清凉可口，至今还造福着我们真武小学的几百师生。在抗战时期这儿曾经jius一所中学，当年的一位外地学生后来成为我国著名的天文学家。在几年前他回到真武场回忆青年时期的足迹，这个节目还在中央12台播出。

除了客家会馆，还有一个不得不提的“马家洋房”。在沿河的街道上，有一栋以白、灰、黑为主的三层楼房，方方正正，每一层的走廊上都jius连排的高大拱形建筑，典型的欧洲风格。周围辅以雕楼、大片的平房及高大的围墙，整个庄园气势宏伟，占去真武老街的四分之一。这就jius“马家洋房”，建于1920年。它jius江津市唯一现存的欧式建筑，jius真武场的地标式建筑。围墙下的条石磨损厉害，仿佛诉说着岁月的沧桑；围墙上的弹孔依稀可见，仿佛印证着当年的传奇……

I was a Hakka. I left my hometown Meizhou from my childhood. I followed my parents to this strange land and opened up our new home. As I grew up in this new environment, the impression of my hometown was gradually blurred. But in my mind, it cant forget the hometown dish of my childhood taste buds.

Many home dishes are famous far and near, and those special flavors have attracted a lot of people. One of the most famous dishes is "Mei Cai Braised Pork", my dad is a generation old Hakka love. Although it sounds like this dish seems to be difficult to get in good taste, but this dish is representative of Hakka peoples diligence and frugality quality.

我最好的朋友是我的同学李艳。她有一双大眼睛，长头发梳成了辫子。脸上时常有甜甜的微笑，使她显得更加活泼。

而今，抚顺终于名副其实的“又福又顺”了。人们的生活安定，生活水平不断提高，全身心地投人到社会主义建设之中，为社会主义建设做出了不可估量的贡献。

抚顺曾以“煤都”闻名于世，有80多年的采煤历史，煤碳产量较长时间内居于全国首位。为抚顺的经济发展提供了重要的能源。许多开采后的遗址，就是最好的历史见证。抚顺的石油化学工业也比较发达。目前，抚顺已成为我国最大的石油加工基地，原油加工量和出口成品油在全国居于领先地位。除此以外，冶金工业，电力工业，机械工业，电子工业，建材工业，轻工业等都有了不同程度的发展。这是抚顺人共同努力的结果，是抚顺人的骄傲！

任何方面的发展都离不开有文化的人，都要以教育为前提。新中国成立前，抚顺的教育十分落后。城内仅有小学17所，中学5所，在校小学生3万多人，中学生不足2000人，文盲占居民总数的80%以上。学校条件和

教学设备之差也可想而知。解放后，抚顺人已意识到知识的重要性，教育事业迅速发展起来。从幼儿园到高等学校，抚顺已应有尽有。九年义务教育的普及更是成绩显著。目前，抚顺二中已被列人国家级重点高中，一中、十中、十二中都是省重点学校，为我们年轻的一代以至后人创造了更好的学习条件。

我市的文化事业也随着教育事业蓬勃地发展起来。从新中国成立之初仅有的一个图书馆，发展到9个公共图书馆，藏书94。7万册，各厂矿、学校的图书馆更是举不胜举。338个电影放映单位，6个艺术表演团体，4座广播电台，1座电视台，70座转播台，这些无不丰富了市民的文化生活，给人以精神上的享受。前不久刚刚举办的满族风情节活动，更是让人们大开了眼界，增长了知识，加深了市民对满族的了解，更感受到工写众不同的民族风情。

提起这样一个人物，谁都不会感到陌生，那就是雷铮。众所周知，抚顺是雷锋的第二故乡。抚顺的山山水水都留下了他的足迹，闪烁着雷锋的光辉，他生前的一举一动，都记录在了抚顺的史册上，成为抚顺历史上不朽的篇章。：为了让那动人的一幕幕能让后人来瞻仰学习，为了继承和发扬雷锋精神，在望花区修建了雷锋纪念馆，由江XX主席亲笔题写馆名。近几年，雷锋纪念馆经过了两次大规模的修建，使其更加完善。雷锋纪念馆以独有的雷锋精神和崭新的姿态吸引了大批游客慕名前来瞻仰学习，把雷锋精神播撤到每一个角落。做为一名抚顺人，我们更应该把雷锋精神发扬光大，让人与人之间充满关爱，让我们的生活更美好。

我们抚顺名胜古迹很多。其中，永陵是国家级重点文物保护单位。它是全国闻名的清代关外三陵之一，位于新宾满族自治县永陵镇西北。始建于1598年，陵内葬着努尔哈赤的六世祖、曾祖、祖父、父亲、伯父和叔父。红色的古式建筑被青山绿树环抱着，烘托出一种幽静的气氛，是历史爱好者的好去处。

高尔山公园修建于1983年，位于抚顺城北山，占地150公顷，群山环抱，树木成荫，是一个以自然山林，文物古迹和动物苑囿为主体的大型综合性公园。这里山川秀丽，景物天成，有唐代“新城”遗址，辽代古塔，明代建筑清代修复的观音阁，都保存完好。新建的金碧辉煌的长廊，歇山式的古亭阁“锁阳楼”，色彩鲜明的“双峰寺”，更为古香古色的高尔山增添了一道亮丽的风景。

另一值得观注的就是萨尔浒风景区，位于抚顺城区东部，总面积268平方千米。群山环抱着巨大的人工湖，云山淡淡，烟水悠悠，充满了诗情画意。加之一年四季不同景象的烘托，把风景区装扮得更加多姿多彩。景区内的铁背山、元帅林、罗台山庄疗养院等远近驰名，具有浓郁满族文化气息。每年都接待着众多游览者。但萨尔浒风景区仍有发展的潜力，可以更好地开发利用，增加可观性，以旅游业的发展促进抚顺经济的发展。

如今，抚顺各处都在修路建桥，这虽然会造成短时间内的交通秩序不佳，但这带来的将是抚顺交通事业的繁荣发展，也必将带来抚顺经济的腾飞。

抚顺日新月异，进步飞速，在不久的将来，抚顺将更加兴盛，更加孩荣。抚顺必将因为我们的建设而走向新的辉煌！

在我的家乡有一项比较宏伟的建筑——东江大桥。桥下面jius一条河，这河叫东江河，清澈的河底倒映着桥的样子，时不时有鱼儿跃起，把这倒影给分散，泛起一圈圈水的波纹。

桥的色彩jius朴素的，有点灰色又有点白。它由两大部分筑成；（1）jius桥身（2）jius挽起桥身的桥墩，厚实而粗大，给桥身以安全感。

东江桥长大约有200多米，宽有8多米，可以同时通过两辆车。如果你在桥上，一阵凉风拂过，再看看底下的河，清澈没污染，会让你的心情顺畅而开朗。

桥的扶手上雕刻着许多图案，有老虎，有狮子等十二生肖。

这桥坐落在我们学校旁边，所以常常会有学生偷偷溜出去观赏，特别jius春天。春天的“桥上风景”那可美了，没去桥上看的人就jius不知道春天的美在哪。桥身由四条桥墩支撑，那桥墩jius非常坚固的，就算洪水来了也绝不会倒塌。我爱它，因为它的坚固，给了我们人民安全和方便。

从远处看，这座桥毅然的矗立在河上，点缀了“母亲河”。

慢慢的走近，在你眼前的jius一座雄伟的大桥，你会发出感叹。它那雕刻精致的图案首先吸引了我的目光。接着jius那宽阔的桥面，令我感叹！

从背面看，它像jius一条通道，中间部分拱起了一点，让人感觉有点儿危险，可如果你从这边走到桥的尽头，你会感觉一点儿也不害怕，这就jius桥的微妙之处。

东江河像一条玻璃带子，那么东江桥就jius点缀在河上的一颗明珠。不论何时，不论何地，这颗明珠在家乡人民的心中永远jius那样的闪闪发亮，因为它凝聚着家乡人民的勤劳与智慧，它jius一种象征！

我为自己的家乡有一条这样的桥而感到骄傲，我坚信；家乡的明天会有更雄伟的建筑。家乡的明天一定会更加美好，更加辉煌！
