More serious pledges are made which lead to the establishment of permanent governmental structures dealing with environmental management and economic planning. This observance also provides an opportunity to sign or ratify international environmental conventions.

World Environment Day, commemorated each year on 5 June is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.

The World Environment Day theme selected for 2004 is Wanted! Seas and Oceans - Dead or Alive? The theme asks that we make a choice as to how we want to treat the Earths seas and oceans. The main international celebrations of the World Environment Day 2004 will be held in Barcelona, Spain in close collaboration with the Universal Forum of Cultures. Mind Your Behavior in Public Places

Last Sunday, I went sightseeing with my friends in the Fairy Lake Park. The park was full of freshness and beauty of spring, with the sun shining and birds singing. When I was enjoying the fantastic scenery around, something unpleasant caught my eye. A young couple in a boat were eating, talking and laughing loudly as if they were the only people in the world. Whats worse, they spat and even threw rubbish into the lake, totally ignoring the noticeable sign "No Littering" nearby. What a shame!

Such behavior left me deep in thought. If all visitors to the Fairy Lake Park do as the couple did, the lake will be severely polluted and soon turned into a huge dustbin. I think all of us should mind our behavior in public places. Only in this way can we live in more comfortable and beautiful surroundings.

We know, campus is for teachers and students to work, a place of learning, a good campus environment, can give us to feel fresh, beautiful feeling. 还有一次，我到堂弟家做客，看见他洗手时把水开得很大，洗完手后他还用很多纸擦手。我看了后对他说：“你怎么这么浪费呀?”他听后，撅着嘴对我说：“就这么一点，又没什么关系!”我生气地说：“这怎么会没关系呢?你知不知道那些贫困山区的孩子们一天只喝多少水?知不知道他们只有多少纸?”可我那不服输的堂弟却理直气壮地说：“不知道!”我叹了口气说：“我们比他们要幸福多了，你怎么不知道知足呢?”这时，堂弟知道了事情的“重要性”，低着头说：“我知道错了，我会改正的。”

让我们从我做起，保护我们唯一的大家园吧!

with the improvement of our living standard, more and more people can afford a car. as a result, our roads are more often than not crammed with cars. however, with more and more waste gas being discharged by the cars, the problem of air pollution becomes even more serious. so nowadays we advocate to lead a low-carbon life.
