活动采取了三个有效手段，全面铺开控烟宣传进程。一是推荐“我为控烟代言”和招募“拒绝二手烟”志愿者。通过天府新区各街道办事处、各医疗卫生单位和各中小学校共同推荐以及通过华阳志愿者平台招募，推荐“我为控烟代言”人52人,招募“拒绝二手烟”志愿者65名;二是开展以控烟为主题的健康知识讲座，邀请成都市疾病预防控制中心健康教育科主任刘熹为天府新区各单位推荐的控烟代言人及拒绝二手烟志愿者进行烟草危害和控烟相关知识的培训，讲解烟草的危害、传播控烟知识和吸烟引起相关心脑血管疾病的防治知识;三是开展“拒绝烟草的危害”主题宣传活动，并在华阳街道开展拾捡烟头、香烟换礼物和劝阻吸烟人员戒烟的行动，进一步推进控烟宣传和健康教育工作力度。
烟草危害是目前全球最严重的公共卫生问题之一，大量科学研究表明，吸烟是导致肺癌、慢性支气管炎、心脑血管疾病等多种疾病发生和死亡的主要原因。天府新区开展世界无烟日系列宣传活动，是传播控烟知识，普及公众对烟草危害的认识，提高居民健康素养水平，强化社会控烟意识，推动新区控烟履约工作的一大有力举措。
