但就是由于无知，和某些人的利欲熏心，人类的某些活动极大的破坏了生态环境，破坏了人类赖以生存的家园。据统计，我国水土流失面积达151万平方公里，每年土壤流失达50亿吨。其中，黄河平均每年泥沙流量达16亿吨，而土壤的形成非常缓慢，几世纪才形成一英寸，表土层一旦流失，就很难恢复。况且我国人口众多，耕地面积本来就少，我们的祖先在这块土地上流了多少血汗哪!黄河流的不是泥沙，而是中华民族的血液。
生态平衡的破坏所造成的恶劣后果是世界性的，大量废气的排放严重破坏了阻挡宇宙中紫外线的天然屏障??臭氧层，紫外线乘虚而入，侵害人体。二氧化碳的剧增，破坏了地球与外层空间的热交换平衡，使地球持续增温，南北极的冰雪也开始融化了，还有珍奇的动物绝迹，气候恶劣等等。2004年我国城市生活垃圾产量达2.2亿吨，且将以8%的年增长率递增。据统计，北京市每天扔掉的废纸有1500吨，废塑料1500-2000吨，快餐盒80万个，废玻璃1500吨。纸在土地中分解需要3-4个月，橘子皮要2年，尼龙织物要30-40年，玻璃就需要4000年了，废电池的危害更是可怕。
除了垃圾污染，污水对水资源的污染也相当严重，目前，全世界每年约有4200多亿立方的污水排入江河湖海，致使5.5万亿立方的淡水被污染，占全球总径流量的14%以上。长此下去，不久的将来地球上的最后一滴水将是人的眼泪。

Furthermore, those advances that benefit people do not benefit al the life on Earth. Deforestation endangers many animals, and mankind’s great thirst for water and other resources leads to the extinction of many plant forms. In addition, accomplishments such as the supply of potable water to a community are only response to problems that mankind created in the past. It was man that made the water unfit to drink in the first place. Finally, the damage that human activity causes will eventually have a negative effect on people. They will also suffer the effects of pollution and diminishing natural resources.
In conclusion, it seems apparent that man’s activity benefits primarily himself, not the Earth. Moreover, those benefits are only short-term advantages, and man will also suffer the negative effects of his activity in the future. The Earth does not have an inexhaustible supply of resources, so every effort should be made to conserve resources and limit the impact of human activity on the planet.
