The Importance of Trees

As we all know, trees are very useful. They are of great benefit to man as follows: First, trees provide us with wood and other products; Second, their roots can allow the rain to sink in and keep the soil, so they help to prevent droughts and floods. Trees can clean air and beautiful life.

Unfortunately, nowadays in many parts of the world lots of people fail to realize the importance of trees. They have cut trees down in large numbers without a plan,which makes the soil washed away. They dont know where there no trees, the rain washed away the surface of the soil and this causes floods.

We ought to plant trees each year and carefully look after new trees in order not to make the forest slowly disappear. Only in this way can we make the forest serve man forever.

In the last several decades, our earth has been extremely polluted, such as air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution and so on. In the past, there have been many endangered animals. Now they are extinct. Does it matter? Has our environment been affected by their absence? Has the quality of our own life been changed? The answer to these questions is "Yes." It does matter if we destroy an endangered species habitat to develop more farmland, housing or industrial parks. There is a delicate balance of nature. If one small part is removed, it will affect all the other parts. For example, if certain trees are cut down, bats will have no place to roost. If they cannot roost, they cannot breed. Cars have created a lot of serious problems in our world.

All the time, they are pumping huge amounts of waste gases into the atmosphere, causing disease and even death.

One possible solution is to design and develop clean cars and clean fuels.

But it may take decades for the new models to completely replace the traditional ones.

Another solution is to develop modern public transportation systems and restrict the use of private cars.

If the price of petrol rises constantly and the public vehicles are efficient and convenient enough, most people will not drive private cars.

On the whole, the elimination of air pollution needs the co-efforts from the government and the public.

This problem will be solved only with the help of science and technology.
