Dear Sir,

I was very interested in your advertisement in todays edition of The Evening Post and I should like to apply to be a member of the Amazon Expedition team.

I am twenty-three years old and have an honors degree in Botany from Bath University. Since leaving university I have been working in a research laboratory but my contract comes to an end in six weeks. 太阳公公一生气，就变得火辣辣的。人们从睡梦中热醒了，梳妆打扮好了就去公园散步，脚步声吵醒了小鸟。

鸟妈妈一醒来，就赶紧飞出去给孩子们准备早餐，而孩子们又实在是多，所以每回鸟妈妈一回来，就能听到一阵叽叽喳喳的叫声：“让我先吃，让我先吃……”小鸟们的叫声又吵醒了大树。

大树伸伸懒腰，叫醒了所有的叶子，有的叶子没有抓好大树妈妈，就从树上掉了下来，砸到了小草的身上。

小草一醒，拿起喇叭一吆喝，就把全世界的小草都叫醒了，他们一起做早操，那声音震耳欲聋，直接吵醒了天空中最悠闲的白云。

云朵醒后兴奋过度，左跑跑，右跑跑，一不小心碰醒了雷公公。雷公公非常生气，恼怒地打了个巨响的雷！

“轰隆”，全世界都醒了！

夏天来啦！夏天来啦！我穿上了漂亮的裙子，兴致勃勃地去欣赏夏日的美景。

公园里的花姹紫嫣红，竞相开放。其中最引人注目的是红色的月季花；那一棵棵花树上，层层叠叠的花瓣，火红的颜色，远远看上去像是一片红色的海洋，徜徉其间真如人间仙境，让人留恋忘返。

路边的小院里，满树的石榴花也在热烈地绽放着自己美丽的容颜。它们一簇堆在另一簇上，在翠绿的叶丛中，好似熊熊燃烧的小火苗，美艳极了；它散发出阵阵的香味，吸引了许多的小蜜蜂、小蝴蝶，在花丛中采蜜，嬉戏。

田野里麦子熟了，在阳光的照耀下，田野里到处闪耀着金色的光芒。割麦人俯身在大片麦浪中，躬身在田地间，挥舞着镰刀，身后的地上那一溜整齐的割好的麦子倒影着每个人脸上灿烂的.笑容。

果园里杏子熟了。成熟的杏子是金黄色的，有的是黄中带红。看着就想吃。摘一颗放到嘴里，甜津津的、汁儿特别的多；要是吃到一颗没熟的杏子，一定会酸到你口水直流。桃子也快要成熟了，一颗颗桃努力的探出枝头，颗颗硕果把枝头都压弯了，整个桃园都弥漫着桃子的香甜。一个个桃子披着碧绿的衣裳，涂着红红的小嘴。在夏风中快乐成长。

啊！夏天的景色真美，鲜花盛开，硕果累累。

I like travelling on may own not only because it costs much less but because it gives a great degree of independence and freedom. Travelling on my own， I’m my own boss； and can decide when to start on my way， where to linger a little longer and which spot can be skipped over to save energy or time for another spot. I can always adjust my plan. On the contrary， in a package tour you‘re deprived of as much freedom as in a military base. At the sound of the whistle， you have to jump up from a sound sleep and， with heavy-lidded eyes， hurry to the gathering place where you are collected and counted to board a coach. At the sight of the little flag waving， you must immediately take yourself away from the scenes you are marveling at and follow the guide whose sole interest is to cover all spots according to him strict schedule， regardless of the weather or your health condition.

True，you may encounter inconveniences if you travel inpidually，for instance， getting accommodations for the night and finding a place for meals. But nothing can be compared with the freedom which is vital to a person who takes a holiday trip mainly to escape from constraints of his routine life.

东方的天际泛出一片鱼肚白，太阳似乎还沉浸在昨日的宴席中，只顶着一张醉红的脸，就爬上了地平线，雾帘中不时穿梭过几只麻雀，留下一阵清脆的鸟鸣。

并没有因为是清晨而消除了夏日的沉闷，走在田埂上，迎面而来的风很暖和，吹动人们的发丝。听，小溪在淙淙地流着，直灌入清如镜的湖泊。孩子们早已起床，来到湖边。他们右手拿着一个平扁的小石头，身子侧着，向右倾斜，一眨眼，他们就已朝湖面扔去了小石头，石头轻盈地在湖面上跳跃着，丝丝点点的水花也跳起来，为石头欢呼着。最后，石头贴近湖面，投进了湖的怀抱。

环顾四周，整个世界明亮起来，如经历了一场春雨的洗礼，树叶子肥中透亮，草丛间零星地藏着些小花。荷塘里，荷叶你不让我，我不让你，挨挨挤挤地铺满了塘面，几朵荷花在这片“绿海”中带回娇艳，有的鼓着花苞，似乎随时都能把积蓄的能量爆发出来。有的舒展开了身子，我无法形容它的形态说它柔韧吧，它又那么亭亭玉立；也无法形容它的颜色，说它冰清玉洁吧，它又显得那么粉嫩。总而言之，荷花的美是难以言表的。看！荷叶下藏着一朵小睡莲，正熟睡呢！嘘！可别出声，踮起脚尖，就轻轻走开了。

不知何时，四周已起了蝉鸣，阳光也开始热情起来，泼辣辣地烤着大地，蝉躲在树叶间，叫得更响亮了。路边有一排树，树荫覆盖了整个路面，只有几丝阳光费力地从叶缝间穿过，照射着路面。几个孩子围在一棵树边，仰着头目不转睛地望着古铜色的树枝——一只蝉正在脱壳，它慢慢抽动自己的身子，将头部和身躯抽离外壳，尾部却不抽动了，只是静静地倒挂着。哦！它在恢复体力呢，瞧它的身子，是多么晶莹剔透。孩子们小声议论起来，摇摇脑袋，又结伴去寻找其他的蝉……

太阳渐渐收敛了光芒，暑气也跟着渐渐远离。空中掠过几只鸟，它们在空中盘旋几阵子，回归了自己的窠巢。太阳又参加宴席了，涨红了脸。天空穿上绚丽的丝绸衣，繁星若隐若现。

天拉上黑帘，“奶奶，再讲个故事吧。”“嘘，再不睡觉，会被坏人抓走哦！”最后一户人家熄了灯，一切都归于平静，只留下一串微弱的虫鸣。
