Thanks for your last letter. Im so glad that you have been able (at last! ) to arrange a holiday in Australia. As I fear I wont be able to meet you at the airport when you arrive, nor will I be able to be home until later in the afternoon, so here are some instructions and suggestions.

There is a bus from the airport to the city. It is much cheaper than a cab. Take the bus to the city and ask to get off at Town Hall railway station.

To get to my place in the eastern suburbs you have three options. You can either take a cab, a bus or the train. 所以，我想提出的建议就是：把旧得快烂的桌椅换成新的;不清晰的投影换成清晰的;停水的饮水机，尽快让人来修。

我知道，自从您在贵校接任校长以来，学校有了很大的改观，学校从高考升学率从全市的第十一名现在已跃升至全市第五名，今年的高考更上一层楼，在四百多高考生中，达一本录取线以上的就有百分之七十，二本线以上达百分之九十以上，社会一片叫好，从这里足可以看到;阁下在管理学校方面确有其过人的才华。然而，您也许不知道，这对我来说，恰恰是最忧虑的………

我的孩子学习成绩很好，在初中时凭她的学习成绩完全可以进全市最好的学校，之所以托人进当时是二类重点的贵校，完全是看重了贵校学业不那么紧张，且多方面发展的前景，但自您接任校长及孩子进入高中以后，学业一天比一天紧张，老师一开家长会就是怎么怎么才能考上大学，好象上大学成了上学的唯一目的，星期天也不休息，晚上10点以前，几乎没有一次回家的机会。

说句老实话，我并不希望她考全年级或全班第一名，也不希望她代表学校参加什么类似的什么化学或数学大赛，我希望的是;学校能让她在快快乐乐的环境中学习，而不是现在的每晚的晚自习到十点后才能回家，我需要的是她在学校能学到发现问题、提出问题、解决问题的能力，而不是她现在的顺着老师的教学思路作个解题的考试第一，也可能她将来考上重点大学甚至清华北大的机会非常大，那样会对学校重点大学的录取率添光彩，但我却并不想让她在国内上大学，象清华北大这样的国内名校在世界大学排名中连200名之内都进不了，那种老师在课堂上灌，学生顺着老师思路往下走的模式，我会在孩子高中毕业能自立后与之彻底断绝的。

人在一生中学生时代并不多，她们毕竟是要走入社会进行竞争的，我最大的希望是让她们在学生时代能在快乐的环境中学习，而且，最好用讨论形式的方法学习，老师可以提出问题，也可引导学生提出问题，培养学生发现问题、提出问题、解决问题的能力，而不是满堂灌输，让学生跟着老师走，培养的学生最后成为解题的机器，以便迈过进大学的这道门槛。我希望学校不要用公式或定律及名人来限制学生思想的自由发挥，什么能量守衡定律，物质不灭定律，一开始就把学生束缚在一个框框里，使学生不敢想永动机、不敢对已有的事物进行创新，要知道，任何真理都是相对的，有的定律公式都有它的阶段性，就像相对论出来前，人们认为时间是永恒的一样，就连早期数学1+1时等于2，但到高等数学出来、或把1+1放在社会学中，放在哲学中时就有可能不等于2了，而我恰恰希望的是老师能带出能提出类似问题的学生。

国外有的名校是不招高考状元的，因他们认为，学习好的学生一定在全面素质的培养上不能均衡发展，因一个人的精力是有限的，不可能在各个方面都优秀，有人作过统计，从我国恢复高考以来，每年的高考状元加起来有几千人，按出类拔萃、特优秀、优秀等分类，出类拔萃的人就没有一个是从高考状元中产生的，有些免强进入特优秀行例，但人数少得可怜，也仅仅是当了厅级以上的干部，而在学术上是没有任何成果的，与此同时，也是这么长时间，美国人却拿了几十个诺贝尔奖，在国际一流学术刊物上发表的论文就更多了。

美国密歇根大学的校长访华时说过这么一句话，“在我校，有一条原则，一个学生如果在老师出题的考卷上得到满分，他只能得B;如果他的一个想法让教授大吃一惊，他才能得A”，遵敬的校长阁下，您的能力足以证明您的才华可以领导学校向世界一流学校看齐，但却不是这样拼命死学的方法。
