Though the boy only appears at the beginning and the ending in the novel, he plays an indispensible role, it is his inspiring and supporting that helps the old man to be “graceful under heavy pressure”.

In the book, the old man prepared his fishing properly and preciously than any other fishermen so that “Then when luck comes you are ready” as the old man thought to himself. In reality, some of us keep complaining that they are born in wrong time or good luck never knocks their doors. In fact, good luck sometimes just comes when they are not ready. Taking Newton for example, if he had not acquired a lot, millions of apples could never make him discovery the gravity. So if we just keep studying as much as we can, good luck will finally find us and a bright future is ahead of us. The old man never gives up hope. When all of people think he is doomed, he still strongly believes that he will get a big fish. And he does. So never giving up hope is very important to us. This reminded me of the sentence in Churchill’s speech “Never give up, never, never, never…”. “But man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated” has always been inspiring me when I counter with some setbacks in my life. Setbacks are inevitable in pursuit of our goals, but we should never be frustrated and should be “graceful under heavy pressure” like the old man. It is his relentless pursuit that contributes to the victory.

After I read the book that is called “The old man and the sea” I was deeply moved by the old man and his spirit.

The book written by Hemingway tells us a story that an old man whose name is Santiago went out to do some fishing on the sea on his own but down on his luck he hadn’t caught any fish for 84 days. Next day he caught a huge marlin which is bigger than his boat and took a formidable battle with it. He beat it at the end. When he was on the way home the smells of blood of the marlin draw a lot of sharks’ attention and they fought for it. In order to protect the marlin and him the old man tried his best to fight with them. After a cruel fight he won it and came back home tiredly. Although he only got a skeleton of the giant marlin at last he is also a great hero in many people’s heart.

In the article the old man is a great man. Although he failed for many time in his life he never gave up. He is a steel-willing man who insisted his dream and work hard. You can destroy him but you can’t beat him. Whatever he faced to he would never yield to the difficult which shows a strong spirit.

In our lives I think we should learn something from the old man which will make us have a more valuable life. Whenever and wherever we meet trouble we should never give up and try our best to overcome it. We should always keep on our dream and make it come true. Every one has his backbone which can’t be bended by anyone which is very important for everyone in his whole life. If we meet difficulty in our life we should face it bravely and work out some way to solve the problem whatever would happen at last. We can be destroyed but we can’t be beat by anything or anyone. If you failed for many times in your life you wouldn’t surrender because if you try to do it you may succeed in your life but if you do not do it you would not be succeed forever. Everyone has his advantages and disadvantages in his life but we should face to our disadvantages and we must be confident which would also make us be confident of our life. Chong yang, the traditional Chinese festival for the elderly, is coming around. We are planning to visit

Nursing Home to celebrate the special day, and we would like to invite students from your school to join us.

We have planned several activities. When we get there, we will visit the elderly in their rooms in groups,

presenting them with flowers and self-made cards to show our respect and love. Then we will do some

cleaning and washing for them wi th the help of the nurses.

As some old people feel lonely, we may chat with them about their old days, changes of our city, or

anything they are interested in. We may also give them some performances: singing, dancing, and so on.

我很疑惑，我费了九牛二虎之力钻进人群堆，只见一位白发苍苍的老奶奶，蜷缩在路面上，手里还紧紧握着一根拐杖，痛苦地呻吟着：“扶我一把吧，求求你们了。”

围观的人虽然很多，但却丝毫没有想扶老奶奶的意思，路上的行人见了，有些就像见了“瘟神”一样绕道走开了。一位拎着公文包的上班中年人，看见倒在地上的老奶奶，几乎是以跑步的速度离开现场，也许他在心里想，还是离这种是非之地远一点好。另外有两位买菜的大妈，其中一位大妈说：“我们一起扶这位老奶奶起来，你打电话给120，我给老奶奶拍拍身上的灰尘。”另一位大妈却不赞同，说：“别扶了，别扶了，我们还要去买菜的，要是她缠上我们，怎么办呀！”前一位大妈听着也有道理，于是两位大妈一起走开了。
