Jack then carved an image of a cross in the trees trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree.

According to the folk tale, after Jack died, he was denied entrance to Heaven because of his evil ways, but he was also denied access to Hell because he had tricked the devil. 听奶奶说，以前蓝天白云、山青水秀，不仅环境优美，空气更是清新无比。小河里面的水清澈见底，河内的石头、小虾能清楚得看到，就连小鱼在河水中嬉戏都能看得一清二楚。远看它是那样的绿，像一条翡翠色的绸带，近看它是那样的清，清得无法比喻。夜晚，那弯弯的月牙倒映在清澈透明的小河上，是那样美丽，又是那样温柔，此时的小河显得那样迷人。在外面的人游玩时感到口渴，随手捧一点山上流下来的泉水就可以喝，甘甜无比。

对比现在，很多小河变得臭气熏天，当年的清澈早已不复存在，那无忧无虑嬉戏着的小鱼小虾也不见踪影。取而代之的则是一具具漂浮在河面上的早已死亡的鱼虾尸体，原本圣洁美丽的公主如今变成了灰头土脸的灰姑娘。这一切都是我们人类造成的!有些化工厂，为了眼前的利益肆意的往河水里排放有毒的污水;也有普通居民将生活污水倒入河流中，还有人直接往河里乱丢垃圾，其中掺杂着化学品、废旧电池等，这一幕多么令人难过!难道要让眼泪成为地球上最后一滴水吗?

我国面临水资源短缺和水污染的现状，绿水青山就是金山银山，要抓环保、爱护水资源，节约用水从每个公民做起。素有中国第一水乡之称的周庄，自然是积极响应国家号召，花了大量的财力和人力建起了污水处理厂，还分别挖了三种水井通道，饮用水井、雨水井以及污水井的通道，让每一种水都有各自的去处，不会互相污染。这样我们的污水处理厂每天都能收集与处理大量的污水，为促进我们古镇的环保建设实在是功不可没。

水是我们学习、生活中必不可少的一部分。为了让世界更美好，为了与自然环境和谐共存，大到工厂、村镇、城市，小到我们家庭的每一份子都应该携起手来爱护水源，节约用水。在这里我再次号召大家：爱护自然环境，保护水资源，还地球一片蓝天!

As time goes by, man is making the earth sick. People cut down too many trees and leave rubbish everywhere. Factories let out their waste without doing anything to it . This has caused some serious problems. Such as the land is sandy, the river is dirty, the air is less clean, even the temperature of the earth is rising. What should we do to save the earth ? My suggestion is that we should plant more trees, put rubbish into dusbins and stop factories (from)pouring waste directly into the air or rivers.
