Dear Sir,

I am a December 2003 graduate from the University of San Francisco (USF) with a bachelors degree in International Business. As part of my career planning, I am very interested in supplementing my international business education with a basic knowledge of the Chinese language. This I hope will help me enter into business commerce with business organizations partnering with Chinas economic development.

I already have information from BLCU and hope to study there for at least one full year starting with this summers program continuing through the fall and spring semester 2006. Can your office advise me if such scholarships might be available to me?

I have been studying Chinese for one year now. I am not sure what level I belong to. I was told that there will be an HSK test in our university in September. I am planning to attend the test. But I dont know if the result of the test is recognized by your university. If so, can it be a help for me to apply for the scholarship?

回想去年的秋天，草坪上还洋溢着我们的欢声笑语，运动会伴随着我们的热情和我们一起走过。正是在那秋高气爽的日子，我们学校举办了一次令人难忘的运动会。

回忆当日，烈日当空，骄阳洒向大地，每个人都挥汗如雨，而同学们，却一个个容光焕发，跃跃欲试。当他们踏上起跑线时，神情变得肃然，他们奋勇奔跑，努力向前，为了班级的荣誉，他们不顾自己的疲劳，在绿茵草地上奋力冲刺！

阳光越来越刺眼，空气越来越炎热，而运动员心中，却不曾抱怨，看着终点马上就要到了，他们必须奋力拼搏，去争夺第一。此时此刻，鲜花为谁盛开？掌声为谁响起？毫无疑问，我们应该把最鲜艳的鲜花和最热烈的掌声送给在场上拼搏的运动员们。

我们看着领奖台上的运动员们，他们在课堂上捣过乱，跟同学打过架，是老师眼中所谓的差生，平时只会低着头接受大人们的训斥，而站在领奖台上，他们仿佛是一个个小英雄，自豪的迎着同学们的羡慕与师的赞许。此时的他们全身都洋溢着自信的光芒。

他们就像一只只雄鹰，在绿茵草地上展开双翅，搏击长空，他们永远是我们的骄傲，我们永远为他们自豪！

今天我们学校举行了第七届运动会。

到了学校，沈老师让我领读，正读到一半的时候，广播铃声响了，沈老师让走方阵的同学先出去排队。我们排好了队走进了蓝球场。先等一年级走完，接下来就是我们了，王宇举着二(1)班的牌子

教师走进教室，对我们说：“明天就要举行一年一度的校运会了，请跑步的穿白跑鞋，拔河的穿钉子鞋。”

转眼间，第二天到了，同学们高高兴兴地来到校园。吃饱喝足后，高兴采烈地来到操场上拔河。裁判员吹了一声口哨，我们立即把队伍排得整整齐齐，拿起绳子。裁判员又吹了第二声口哨，大家把身子向后倒，用尽了所有的力气来拔。对方也不甘似弱，双方互不相让，没多久，双方的力气差不多都用完了。对方终于坚持不住了。我们胜利了，大家都欢呼起来。我们最强大的对手来了。他就是五班，刚开始拔，绳子好像生了根似的，稳如泰山，一动不动。那些自称大力士的同学可都大显身手了。

慢慢地绳子开始缓缓移动起来，同学们咬紧了牙关，脸绷得紧紧的，手背都渗出了汗珠。这时，比赛进入了高潮，场上气氛紧张而又激烈。同学们都为各方加油助威，响起了一阵阵加油声。最后的冠军当然还是被我们班夺走了，操场上顿时响起了雷鸣般的掌声。

[运动会小学生记事作文

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, usually

in February or March in the Gregorian calendar. As early as the Western Han

Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25), it had become a festival with great significance.

This days important activity is watching lanterns. Throughout the Han

Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), Buddhism flourished in China. One emperor heard that

Buddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddhas

body, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunar

month, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples to

show respect to Buddha on this day. Later, the Buddhist rite developed into a

grand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the Central

Plains to the whole of China.

Till today, the lantern festival is still held each year around the

country. Lanterns of various shapes and sizes are hung in the streets,

attracting countless visitors. Children will hold self-made or bought lanterns

to stroll with on the streets, extremely excited. "Guessing lantern riddles"is

an essential part of the Festival.

Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the

lanterns. If visitors have solutions to the riddles, they can pull the paper out

and go to the lantern owners to check their answer. If they are right, they will

get a little gift. The activity emerged during peoples enjoyment of lanterns in

the Song Dynasty (960-1279). As riddle guessing is interesting and full of

wisdom, it has become popular among all social strata.

People will eat yuanxiao, or rice dumplings, on this day, so it is also

called the "Yuanxiao Festival."Yuanxiao also has another name, tangyuan. It is

small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean

paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling.

Tangyuan can be boiled, fried or steamed. It tastes sweet and delicious. What’s

more, tangyuan in Chinese has a similar pronunciation with "tuanyuan”, meaning

reunion. So people eat them to denote union, harmony and happiness for the

family.

In the daytime of the Festival, performances such as a dragon lantern

dance, a lion dance, a land boat dance, a yangge dance, walking on stilts and

beating drums while dancing will be staged. On the night, except for magnificent

lanterns, fireworks form a beautiful scene. Most families spare some fireworks

from the Spring Festival and let them off in the Lantern Festival. Some local

governments will even organize a fireworks party. On the night when the first

full moon enters the New Year, people become really intoxicated by the imposing

fireworks and bright moon in the sky.

I have many cousins. I like Stella best. She is a pretty girl. She likes eating cucumbers , eggplants, cabbages… She doesn’t like eating eggs and milk. So she is very short.

Stella is an excellent student . She is the monitor of her class. She likes studying and she studd. So she is always the top student in her class.

In this summer holiday , I spent a very happy time with her in Sichuan . I often miss her very much.

20xx年11月14日，是一个令人难忘的日子，我小学阶段的最后一个运动会开始了。

开幕式上，彩旗队、国旗队、校旗队，各种旗迎风招展，红的似火，粉的如霞，绿的像玉，唯蔚壮观。而后各班运动员踏着稳健的脚步，展示着各自的英姿，列队从主席台前走过。

在这场运动会上，我参加了100米短跑和1500米长跑，谁知不凑巧，两个项目都安排在前面。

首先开始的是100米短跑，发令员的枪声刚响，我就像离弦的箭一样飞了出去，可是其他人更是脚底生风，大家都争先恐后地往终点冲去，我真是心有余而力不足。唉！我最终名落孙山，排了个倒数第二，看来“平时不烧香，临时抱佛脚”真是不行。

我顾不上休息，1500米赛跑就开始检录了。参加1500米赛跑的运动员可真不少，大约有40多个，个个人高马大，我暗暗告诫自己，千万不能掉以轻心，一定要努力啊！速度不够快，咱就比耐力。一圈两圈……跑到第五圈，我渐渐支撑不住了，腿像灌了铅似地迈不开，胸口像压了一块大石头似地喘不过气来。但是一听到同学们的加油声，我立刻又浑身充满了力量，咬紧牙关，调整呼吸，奋力摆臂，甩开大步，不顾一切的往终点跑去。本在最末的我，成功的超越了许多运动员，最终取得第12名。

下午，跳高比赛如火如荼的进行。我的好朋友张鹏韬参加了比赛，可是他跳高的技术并不是很好，赛前我找了木杆当标杆，帮他练习跳高，他终于会了点技巧。比赛开始了，标杆在一轮一轮地升高，张鹏韬好几次都是勉强过关，我的心也悬了起来。又一轮开始了，只见他飞速冲向木杆，先是白鹤亮翅，及而乌龟缩壳，眼看就要过去了，他却猛一伸左脚，标杆却飞了出来，还好，人掉在安全毯上，真是遗憾呀！

运动会结束了，我的测试成绩在告诉我：“在学习忙碌时，也不要忘了锻炼身体。”我小学的最后一次运动会，值得我铭记。

把老奶奶接过马路后，我们一起等着班车的到来，我们的身后也陆陆续续地来了好几个人，他们都很自觉地排在了我的后面。不一会儿车来了，我们按照秩序上车。进入车内，只见地板光滑整洁，没有一点垃圾;空气也清新如洗，没有一点烟味儿。坐在这样的环境中，感觉舒适极了。中途，上来了一位老人，可此时已经没有了空座位，我正想站起来让座，没想到已经有好几个人先我一步从座位上站起来了，大家都争着抢着给老人让座，这样的争吵声在安静的车厢内响起，却显得如此悦耳。

跑到上我们班的何雨繁太棒了，碧绿的草地上，女子铅球表现如何呢？一阵微风吹过，小草们也随风摇摆着身子，在这宁静的草地上又将会展开一擦河南馆激烈的比拼。看到这一次参赛的运动员，我不由得为我们班的邹奕揪了一把心，参赛队伍中有连续夺得两届冠军的陈益霏，她可是一个实力派啊！别看她骨瘦如柴，她那双手可是力大如牛。紧张的比赛开始了，陈益霏用一只手捡起在地上的铅球，同时透露出一种王者的气息。她助跑了一下，用手奋力一扔，铅球在天空中划过了一条弧线。“2.05”裁判员斩钉截铁地说出了成绩，她不屑地瞟了眼邹奕，用轻蔑的眼神望着她，揍奕自信满满地拿起铅球，奋力向前跑去。随后铅球就像一支离弦的箭一样飞了出去。“3.05”听到成绩我简直不敢相信，邹奕原来是深藏不露呀。此刻，邹奕脸上洋溢着一种从未有过的表情，是幸福的，是快乐的。

最后让我们把目光转向今天最后一个项目——沙坑跳远。唉，遗憾的是汤子潇因为生病不能来参加，否则其他选手肯定会闻风丧胆！这下他们快活了，一个个兴高采烈的。他们一定是为汤子潇没来而祝贺吧。比赛开始了，八班的蒋吕洪杰很轻松地跳了两米，他甩了甩头发，得意的笑了笑。显然，他对这次比赛很有信心。接下来是6班的陈昶恺，他竟然在助跑时摔了一跤，出来丑，只好灰溜溜地回到了教室。这一场比赛已经成定局了。因为一班，二班的运动员表现一点都不好，连八班的蒋吕洪杰一半的成绩都不到，这一次比赛，他很轻松地活的累冠军。他的表情更加得意了，一会儿对现场观众飞吻，一会儿向那些落选运动员握手。

这是我暨阳小学一年一度的运动会，也是一场精彩绝伦的运动会。

我爱运动，因为运动有助于身体健康，不但可以强壮体魄，还可以减少生病的机会。每次运动完，流了一身汗，身体的骨头、肌肉好像吃得饱饱的，充满活力，感觉好舒畅啊！

虽然升上四年级后，因为教室位在“高处不胜寒”的四楼，下课时总是抢不到球场，所以比较没有机会打篮球了！但是每当假日一到，我就会早点起床，和爸爸一起去球场打篮球，以弥补平时无法打球的缺憾。当打得满身大汗，感到非常渴时，喝下一口水，那种“久旱逢甘霖”的感觉，你会发现那平淡无奇的白开水，真是甘甜好喝啊！而且打球让我和平时甚少相处的爸爸，感情变得更好了，能像兄弟一样无话不谈。有时，我们也会全家一起去打球，这时球技与规则就要放一边了，因为是以“好玩”和“有运动到”为目的，所以全家都“乱打一通”，虽然有时也会出现搞笑场面，但是全家的感情却也被这“趣味”给牢牢系住。

The Spring Sports Meeting

春季运动会

Our school usually holds a spring sports meeting each year. The spring sports meet this year was held last Friday. Many students took an active part in it. So did I.

我们学校通常每年举办一次春季运动会，今年的春季运动会在上个星期五举行。许多同学都积极参加，我也如此。

The sports meet began at eight oclock. After the opening, all kinds of races, both field-events and track-events, started one after another. I took part in the 1500-metre race. I felt a little nervous before the contest began because it was the first time that I had run at a school sports meet.

运动会八点开始，开幕式之后，各田赛和竞赛项目陆续开始。我参加1500米长跑，比赛前我有些紧张，因为这是我第一次参加校运动会项目。

My roommates stood around me, encouraging me," Come on. You were the winner of our grade in the Long-distance Competition last time. Be brave!" On hearing the shot of the starting gun, I shot from the starting point.

同学们围在我身边鼓励我：“振作精神，你是我们年级上次越野长跑冠军，勇敢些!”听到枪声，我从起跑线冲出。

I ran at a medium speed at the beginning because there was a long way to go and I had to maintain my strength. As soon as there was only 400 meters left, I began to quicken my speed. I caught up with other runners soon and won first place in the end. There was only one step between the second place and me!

It gradually turns cool. The sunlight is no longer so strong and the

Everywhere we can see the scene of bumper crops: on the fields is golden

are now expecting a good harvest through a summers hard work.

The autumn evening is especially beautiful. When the setting sun goes

slowly down to the west, the sky over the mountains is covered with red rays of

evening sunlight, which shines upon the blue sky and floating clouds, just as

the maple leaves fall onto the sky.

It is getting cool at dusk. The wind blows, the moonlight shines on the

ground,the frogs croak and insects chirp in the fields. Such a situation will

make you forget all the unhappy things in the daytime.

I love the beautiful season.

New Year is the biggest festival for Chinese people. After about half a

month, there is a traditional festival, it is the Lantern Festival, which is

also important. The first round moon day in the New Year is special. People

continue to celebrate the New Year and enjoy the time with their families.

The coming of Lantern Festival is various. Some people said that it is

related with Buddha. When the Buddhas meditated, they need light in front of

them, so the light can drive away monster for people. Today, in some areas,

people light up lanterns to beg for a son from god. No matter what the story is,

the traditional festival is favored by people and the government pays special

attention to remind this tradition.

There are many activities on Lantern Festival, and the most traditional

game is the riddle. People can read some riddles that are written in the
