As part of my career planning, I am very interested in supplementing my international business education with a basic knowledge of the Chinese language. This I hope will help me enter into business commerce with business organizations partnering with Chinas economic development.

I already have information from BLCU and hope to study there for at least one full year starting with this summers program continuing through the fall and spring semester 2006. Can your office advise me if such scholarships might be available to me?

I have been studying Chinese for one year now. I am not sure what level I belong to. I was told that there will be an HSK test in our university in September. I am planning to attend the test. But I dont know if the result of the test is recognized by your university. If so, can it be a help for me to apply for the scholarship?

From the earliest time to the present days, viewpoints concerning human

nature were vehemently contended among prominent philosophers. Mencius believed

human nature is good, and people are naturally inclined toward virtue. While,

Xunzi deemed human are basically evil who need to be changed by man-made.

As it is widely known, human nature is that indestructible matrix upon

which the character is built. Accordingly, to a large extent, the basic nature

of human beings cannot be changed. On the other hand, each of us is naturally

endowed with diverse both qualities and personalities, which makes us unfold an

apparently distinct character. Then, it is hard for one to change his nature

fundamentally. Regardless of whether nature is innate or habitus acquired, they

were both a consistently developing courses that cannot be easily changed in a

short time. Last but not the least, external influencing factors, like

religious, education and even social institutions can merely direct our nature

on account of the most limited control. Thus, it is only the surface that is

capable of alteration, improvement and refinement.

In a word, the basic nature of human beings does not and cannot change and

also no one can fundamentally change his nature in the short time. But people

can make it perfect.

Laba is celebrated on the eighth day of the last lunar month， referring to

the traditional start of celebrations for the Chinese New Year. La in Chinese

means the 12th lunar month and ba means eight.

Legends about the origin of this festivity abound. One holds that over

3，000 years ago sacrificial rites called La were held in the twelfth lunar month

when people offered their preys to the gods of heaven and earth. The Chinese

characters for prey and the twelfth month were interchangeable then， and ever

since La has been used to refer to both.

Since the festival was held on the eighth day of the Last month， people

later appended the number eight (ba in Chinese)， giving us the current Laba

The majority Han Chinese have long followed the tradition of eating Laba

rice porridge on the Laba Festival. The date usually falls in mid-Janua.

My name is Lli Hua. I was born in the city of Dalian, Liaoning province. I

Guangzhou is the capital of guangdong. It is the biggest city in south

china. And it is one of the most important cities in guangdong.

The population of guangzhou is more than 700 million. Just like many

cities， there are a lot of cars， buses and trucks. So the air in the city is not

clean. Guangzhou is a noisy and crowded city. But i like it best. Because

guangzhou is my home.

As a small girl, many teachers have asked me what do I want to be in the

future. My answer is always to be a teacher. It is my dream and I study so hard

to realize it. Being a teacher can pass the knowledge to others and guide them

to the right way. Thinking about the great contribution I would make, everything

is worthy.

There was once a boy that liked making things and reading books.

One day he was reading about a book, which tells a little girl called

Cindy; met with a dangerous adventure through the woods. But in it were many

challenges which allowed her to be famous. Mike wanted to be just like the

little girl in the story, but could he do this on his own?

Mike decided to try it, for he read a book about many stories; among them

was a tale that tells if you don’t try it then you will never learn to walk. And

so Mike grabbed his bag and went out his home which just happened to be in the

woods. As he wondered about in the woods, he could not tell which way to go, for

there were too many trees that are all alike. Since he didn’t have a map, he

just turned in circles. At last he found a little passage way which led to a

little bridge.

Mike did not know what was on the other side of the bridge, without even

thinking he began walking. As he crossed the bridge, he found three walls. And

over the other said was a dark cave. Mike did not look at the walls, he began to

walk. But as he approached the first wall, he found one side of it green and the

other yellow. “There must be a trap between these pairs!” he thought. And so he

took a step backward, to his surprise he found a little sign, on the sign were

these word: If you want to go inside the cave, then you must pass these tests.

The first test is that you must be able to find out a wall that will lead you to

a garden. In that garden you must find a four leaved clover and a rose. Mike

started to think about this problem.

He thought of the words which his mother had told him before she died.

“Remember son, green means garden; red means danger, orange means lucky; and

yellow means death.” Mike thought, ‘Green means garden, yellow means death! I’ve

got it! I must go through the green wall!” and so without even saying a word, he

entered the green wall, and there he found a lovely garden, “I knew it! I did

it! Now to find a four leaved clover and a rose.” Mike then began to look for

those things.

At last he found a four leaved clover behind a bush, and a rose near the

fountain. Mike then went through the green wall again, and soon was back where

the two walls were. He then crossed the two walls slowly, “I don’t see why I

would have to get these ingredients? What are they for?” he thought. Suddenly he

came to the second pair of walls. This time, he found a little hole, he thought

to himself, “What should I put inside it? I don’t have anything?” Suddenly, he

found out that he had a four leaved clover and a rose. He put them inside the

hole and then he could walk pass it. “Looks like the four leaved clover and the

rose are helpful to me.”

The last test came to Mike; it was a math problem;

“1+2+3+4+5+6+7…+98+99+100.” “This is easy!” cried Mike. He wrote the answer

“5050.” At last the gate opened and Mike walked inside. He found many materials

and used them to invent things.

Did you know that one day, Mike went out and was hurt by a sharp plant.

During that discovery Mike went to his workshop, and began inventing something.

That time it was 1865, and Mike invented the knife. After that, he invented many

things, and was known as the great inventor Mike.

Things in the world are changing. People are changing and every creature is

changing. Changing is a neutral word. We can’t judge it is good or bad in

general, because every coin has two sides. But sometimes we need to change,

because it is good for us. Sometimes we will meet some difficult or

uncomfortable situation. When we are not able to change it, we need to change

ourselves. If both of us refuse to budge, the problem would not be solved.

humble opinions of the learning environment in our school.

Although we’re enjoying the modernized buildings equipped with advanced

computers sufficient lights and well-installed desks and chairs we do find it

hard for us to concentrate on study when we’re in the classrooms. For one thing

the annoying noise made by the vans and cars disturbs our studies. For another

the classrooms which are supposed to be used for self-study are unavailable for

they are usually occupied for meetings by various kinds of associations.

Faced with such a hard nut we should find ways to crack it. I suggest that

our school should construct some special lanes for the traffic and provide

associations with specific rooms to have their meetings in order to provide a

better learning environment for us.

There was once a little girl that wanted to live in peace, but she couldn’t

since her house or should I say family is very, very poor.

One day the little girl called Anna went to pick mushrooms in the forest

with her friends. She picked plenty of mushrooms and walked deep into the

forest. It gradually became dark, and Anna wanted to go home, she called her

friends; but they were nowhere to be found. She wanted to go home on her own,

she walked and walked into the forest; it seemed as if it had no end. At last,

she found a tiny little house, Anna walked close to it.

She knocked at the door but there was no answer, she knocked again, but

there was still no answer; at last she quietly opened the door, and inside she

found a warm fire place. She walked to the fire place, and sat there. Before one

minute, a bear walked in, he saw Anna; and said, “What are you doing in my

house?” “My name is Anna, and I am lost…” “Oh,” said the bear, “In that case you

can stay here; but you must prepare the food and dust the house in return…”

One day Anna baked a tray of apple tarts, she put them in a big basket and

said to the bear; “Oh bear, could you deliver these apple tarts to my parents?”

“You have done a great job so I will agree: I shall send these apple tarts to

your parents. I’ll just fetch my walking stick and head out immediately…”

“Remember bear, if you eat one tart, I shall know immediately;” the bear went to

fetch his walking stick, in the meantime;Anna hid herself in the basket, and the

bear set off from home.

He walked a distance and said to himself, “I shall eat one apple tart;”

suddenly he heard Anna’s voice saying, “Big bear I’ve caught you!” “Oh my, oh

my!” cried the bear, “I had better walk a while before eating any of the tarts…”

As he said that, the bear started off again. After he was far from home, he

said; “I shall rest here, and in the meantime eat one apple tart…” Suddenly he

heard Anna’s voice saying again, “Big bear; I’ve caught you again!” “Oh my, oh

my!” cried the bear, “That girl must have magic eyes!” then he started off once

When he at last reached his journeys end, he placed the basket in front of

Anna’s front door, and walked away from home. When Anna’s mom and dad opened the

door, they saw Anna jump out from the basket and running to them. There was no

chance of saying how happy they were!

亲爱的自己，不知道你有没有忘记那一件你不该做的事情：在初春时，有一节音乐课，不知道是我们太吵了，还是教学时被领导责备了，音乐纪老师的心情糟透了，脸上“阴云密布”我们从来没有见过纪老师发这么大的脾气，全都吓傻了，原本吵的像菜市场一样的教室霎时间变得连一根针掉在地上都能听得一清二楚。

纪老师默不作声地打开了投影仪和我们一起练习歌曲，唱着唱着，有一些胆大的同学在下面小声说起了话来，渐渐地我和梅正阳也忍不住了，也开始窃窃私语起来，正聊的高兴时，突然听到一声怒吼：“讲话的人统统都给我站起来，怎么这么不尊重别人，不知道上课时不能讲话吗?站起来的同学期中将会被扣10分!”

我当时就看见许多同学指着薛佳何和吴沛轩说就是他俩在那聊天，在那一直不停的争辩。他们还不站起来，我当时就想他俩真是不见棺材不掉泪，后来想想这句话才最适合我自己。不一会儿，他俩就被老师“请”上了讲台，只见老师低着头，在纸上“刷刷”写着什么，我的小心脏都快跳出来了，生怕自己被别的同学指到，我的内心矛盾着，有两个想法在脑海中互相打架，其中一个“别站起来，这不仅丢脸，而且还会被扣10分，这样一来，你期中考试就不可能拿到高分，这样一来，你的”十星唯亭娃“就别想得到了”另一个想法也不甘示弱的争辩“你是好学生，不仅要学习好，还要诚实呀!”十星唯亭娃“失去一次机会，下次还是可以再去争取的。”

最终，我还是选择了下策——————不站起来，屁股像定在板凳上一样。

虽然这件事过去了很久，但我还是后悔了，我为自己开脱，人的一生哪有不犯错误，但犯了错误没关系，但你一定要知道：习惯上犯了错误，就可以能让大家认为你习惯不好，对你的印象自然也不好;行为上知道犯了错误不改正，就可能导致别人对你讨厌，认为你没教养，自然会疏远你;学习上知道犯了错误不改正，就可能是你一次重要考试名落孙山的原因……

2021年，我应该有新的喜也有新忧，生活本来就是旧的的问题解决了就会迎来新的问题，没有谁是没有问题的人生。不过，在过好当下的同时，也希望自己对过去和未来也保持一份警醒和敬畏。我想在2021年，用三个关键词来和一年后的自己写封信。

关键词1——「太难」

2021年，很难的一年终于过去了，一场比SARS非典更严重的呼吸道传染疾病——新型冠状病毒肺炎从武汉开始席卷全国，这场疫情让整个中国陷入了始料未及的困境之中。我想对一年后的自己说：“这一年来你真的过得太难了吧，但是都过去了，你辛苦了，而且你也挺过来了;当时你觉得很难克服的苦难和很难迈过的大山都已经解决了，可能你回过头来再看2021年的困难也没什么，只是当时想得太沉重了。”

当然我希望你不要忘记整个2021年，因为这一年太特别了，特别是春节期间的一场肺炎病毒把你滞留在湖北老家里，作为一个出身湖北的人肯定不会忘记这场注定会载入历史史册的全国病毒疫情。我想对你说，灾难面前，每个人都显得如此渺小，所以不要太在意人生的得失，健康的活着比什么都重要。同时也要告诫你，不要好了伤疤忘了疼，灾难和困难虽然过去了，但是一定要警醒，2021年依然有困难和苦难在等着我们，人生可能注定是一场苦行差，就像孙悟空打怪一样过了一关还有下一关，除非寿终正寝，否则生命就是会有不断的波折在等着我们，你一定不要害怕，要一关一关地去突破。

关键词2——「勇气」

2021年，你又年长一岁了，面对不断向上攀升的年龄，我想对你说：“不要害怕年龄上涨，年龄不仅能在你的脸上留下痕迹，也会在你的经验上留下痕迹，你比年轻的自己更长见识了更有经验了，更了解社会和更认识自己了，所以年龄增长也有好的一面。”

而且，我希望你随着年龄的增长，依然有追求理想追求目标的勇气和信心，人活着不能没有目标，所以一定要敢于追求自己的目标敢于追梦。你喜欢的英雄曹操可以壮志豪言「老骥伏枥，志在千里」，你喜欢的诗豪刘禹锡可以明志「莫道桑榆晚，为霞尚满天」，你喜欢的大诗仙李白可以高歌「长风破浪会有时，直挂云帆济沧海」，我希望你能永远保持一种乐观向上、积极上进的心态，能够不为外界和世俗之见所影响，勇敢的活出自己所想。”

关键词3——「珍惜」

我还想对2021年的自己说：“虽然我鼓励你依然要敢于追梦，但是也不要只顾着自己追梦，你也要珍惜目前拥有的一切，要花些时间孝敬父母，要花些时间陪伴小孩和爱人，要花些时间在家庭生活上，这些不仅仅是你的义务更是你的责任。”

可能你会经常觉得时间不够用，你充满了斗志充满了紧迫感，但是也不要给自己定太高的目标和期望，不要高估自己的能力，期望不要高于自己的能力，这样会过得幸福些。”

总之，我希望2020年的你回过头来看2021年的自己写的这封信的时候，没有后悔没有责备，能够欣然地会心一笑。
