人类仅有一个生存的家园，也是所有人赖以维持生存的唯一空间。但是在过去相当长的一段时间内，人类却很少从长足和全局考虑如何更好地既保护又利用地球的资源呢?却不知地球早已因满身的病痛而呻吟，同时也在为人类贪婪的索取而愤怒。江河洪灾的泛滥，资源的枯竭，宇宙射线对人类健康的威胁……所有这些，都是大自然对人类的报复，警示人类：自然不是随意盘剥的对象，不是无止境地汲取的源泉，而是与人类生存和发展息息相关的生命。人类还必须认识到，地球的承载力是有限的。就光说一次性筷子，一颗长了20多年的大树也只够做6000—8000多双筷子，而一所学校一天下来平均就要用去2000—3000多双筷子，大约一个星期不到便用了一颗长了20多年的大树。中国每年大约要用2500万棵大树，失去面积为近200多万平方米。一般塑料制品在自然界中很难消解，掩埋在土壤中，妨碍了农作物生长;被牲畜误吃，轻者消化系统得病，重者死亡;焚烧，则释放大量有毒气体。

恶化的环境敲响了警钟，人类开始猛醒，开始反思。当人类骄傲地宣称，“我们可以改造自然、改造环境”的时候，对于无私奉献的地球，人类又做了些什么?人类将为自己的子孙后代留下些什么?或许没有什么东西，能像自然环境对人的生命和幸福所作出的巨大贡献那样，可以无偿地取得。人们呼吸空气，喝水，吃动、植物食品，欣赏源源不断的自然之力。世界如此之大，它的资源似乎是无穷的。不，人们错了。地球人现在的生活方式将会吞噬曾有的碧水蓝天!人类曾为了生存，利用一切可以利用的资源创造了今天的繁荣世界。可如今，同样是为了生存，人类面对种种污染造成的恶果，再也无法泰然处之了。人们现在醒悟还来得及，让我们共同保护环境，保护家园，保护好我们唯一生存的家园。才能挽救这般残局。

未来就掌握在我们每一个人的手中，我们不能让地球就这样带着伤痕和泪水进入新世纪，我们不能让曾有的美丽成为久远的记忆。让我们再次思考人类文明与大自然永恒的话题——创造一个绿色文明的家园造福子孙后代。

2005年3月份开始，圆明园内上演了一幕骇人的情景：几十台挖掘机正在疯狂地破坏着圆明园的景观，所有湖底被挖开，然后铺满了大片白色塑料，四周用水泥严密封闭。他们这样做是为了防止湖水渗漏。专家说，这是一次彻底的、毁灭性的生态灾难和文物破坏。

中国古典园林在世界上拥有无可取代的科学价值和文化价值，具有非常丰富的文化内涵和历史底蕴。圆明园是有史以来中国最杰出的园林。“天人合一”、“师法自然”是中国古典园林建设的基本思想，“巧夺天工”、“宛若天成”是中国古典园林的基本特点，“浑然一体”、“古朴沧桑”是中国古典园林的艺术境界，“泱茫无穷”、“气象万千”是中国古典园林生态效应的美学感受。显然，开放的园林生态系统与周围自然环境的和谐统一至关重要，对于圆明园而言，可持续发展和生态平衡已经接受了几百年的历史考验，从生态学的角度看，物质、能量、信息的交流是不可缺少的，园林水系和外部水系、地下水系的沟通是最重要的“生态流”。

中国文化是有“意境”的文化，中国古典园林尤其如此。这次圆明园大规模铺设白色塑料的一个严重后果就是彻底破坏了“天人合一”的意境，圆明园那种“浑然天成”、“自然天真”、“恬淡清雅”的和谐感受就完全没有了，损害了圆明园独特的旅游欣赏价值，如果不立即改正，后果不堪设想。
