Is Thrift Still a Good Virtue?

With the improvement of the living standards, many people are no longer interested in the simple life style and some of them even feel ashamed to be thrifty. What they pursue is the latest fashion. In their eyes, thrift is already out of style. AD:From Joozone.com.

However, still other people insist that thrift is a good virtue. They say that the unprecedented power of production doesn’t mean that we are entitled to a life of extravagance, because our natural resources are limited and some of them even are on the decline.Moreover, they hold that waste may lead to degradation of social atmosphere and environmental pollution as well.

As to me, I prefer the latter opinion. I believe “Waste not, want not.” The truth of this saying is not to give up comfort but to enhance efficiency. In fact, economic growth depends enormously on saving. Besides, there are still millions of Chinese living under poverty line. We can never afford reckless waste.Therefore, [10]it is no doubt that thrift is still a good virtue that we should not give up.

每一滴都是我们的希望，每一滴水都能拯救成千上百名人民，我们一定要珍惜每一滴水，如果没有了水，我们人类就可能渴死；如果没有了水，就没有我们这个美丽的世界。我们要爱惜每一滴水，爱惜每一滴眼泪。

记得在我10岁那年，我和妹妹非常喜欢玩水，可以称得上是一位“玩水大师”。有一天，我们趁着姑姑不在家，我们就开始起劲了玩水。我们先把每个盆里都灌满水做‘后背炸 弹’拿起瓶子使劲泼对方，我们玩累了，就全体休息，没想到我的妹妹既然玩起了偷袭，我也反击，最后我们的衣服全都湿透了。我灵机一动，又想到一个办法。

我知道把水开小水表就不走了，我告诉了妹妹叫她把水开小，妹妹不相信就惊讶地问：“真的可以让水表不走？”“不相信就自己试试吧！”果然，和我说的一样。我神秘地对妹妹说：“昨天，我洗完脸后没有关水龙头，水表也没有走。”妹妹高兴地说：“那我们快积水吧！”可我皱了皱眉说：“但是太慢了！”“不要紧，就慢慢来！”父母回来后，我们争先恐后的把着个“秘密”好素了父母，还认为他们会表扬我们。谁知道，爸爸语重心长地对我们说：“你们在干什么呀？这是偷水，谁叫你们这样做的，这样是浪费水源。”听了爸爸这番沉思的话后，我和妹妹的脸“唰”地一下子红了。

水是人类不可缺少的一部分，我们不要让最后一滴水成为我我们的眼泪

水是工农业生产的重要原料，也是人类赖以生存的宝贵 自然资源 ，没有水就没有生命，就没有良好的自然环境，也就无法实现社会经济的可持续发展。当今世界已经进入一个水资源紧张的年代，出现全球范围的水危机。而与世界各国相比，我国水资源和水环境状况更令人堪忧：一是我国水资源总量严重短缺。1998年我国人均水量为2251立方米，仅为世界人均水平的1／4，预测到2030年我国人口增至16亿时，人均水资源量将降到1760立方米。二是我国水资源的时空分布也很不平衡。水资源 绝对数 量西少东多，而人均占有量东缺西丰，成两个反向递度分布。三是我国的水环境也在日趋恶化，导致水资源可利用率降低。随着经济发展、人口的增长和 城镇化 水平的提高，我国未来对水资源的需求量还将进一步增加。如何解决水资源供给不足而需求不断增加的矛盾已成为一个亟待研究和解决的重大课题。

现今的世界，淡水仅仅占总水量的百分之三，其中三分之二还是冰，可见现在世界上的水资源有多么贫乏！“假如地球上只剩下最后一滴水，那么就是我们的眼泪。”每听到这一句话，我的心就不住地紧张起来，害怕真有这么一天。现在，中国真是发达了：工厂林立、 高楼大厦 随处可见。人口越来越多，水资源就不大供得上了，本来节省节省就够了，可人们却恣意浪费它，再加上污染，中国就这么变成了世界上十二个贫水国家之一！

我们一定要节约用水，不要让最后一滴水成为我们的眼泪！！

The world is not only hungry,but also thirsty for water. This may seem strange to you, since nearly 75 % of the earths surface is covered with water. But about 97% of this huge amount is sea water, or salt water. Man can only drink and use the other 3% -- the fresh water that comes from rivers, lakes,underground, and other sources. And we cannot even use all of that, because some of it is in the form of icebergs and glaciers. Even worse, some of it has been polluted.

However, as things stand today, this small amount of fresh water, which is constantly being replaced by rainfall, is still enough for us. But our need for water is increasing rapidly-- almost day by day. Only if we take steps to deal with this problem now can we avoid a severe worldwide water shortage later on. A limited water supply would have a bad effect on agriculture and industry. Let me give you just one small exampie of how necessary water is to industry. Did you know that to produce a single ton of steel, it takes about 91, 000 liters of water?

We all have to learn how to stop wasting our precious water. One of the first steps we should take is to develop ways of reusing it. Experiments have already been done in this field, but only on a small scale.

As we know，water is very important to man，we cant live without water. The amount of water which is suitable to drink is less and less. But some people dont care about it. They waste a lot of water in their daily life. Even worse，they pour dirty water into rivers. They throw rubbish into rivers，too. Many rivers and lakes are seriously polluted. Something must be done to stop the pollution. And I think its a great shame to waste while millions are in great need of water. I think what we can do is that we have to save every drop of water as possible as we can. For example，we must turn off the tap immediately after we use it. We can use a basin to wash our hands and faces. Its also a good idea to encourage my friends and family members to join me!Only in this way can we live happily. If we dont save water，the last drop of water will be a tear-drop of us. I believe if everyone makes a little effort，we can make a big difference.

同学们，你们知道吗？在我们的家园——清远，已经开始受到很多不讲环保的人的破坏。当然，这些事情也偶然发生在我们的家。

记得有一次妈妈正在洗菜，突然电话响了。她连忙跑去接电话。这时，我看到妈妈太匆忙了，连水龙头也忘记关了。我连忙跑过去把水龙头关了，并等妈妈听完电话以后对她说：“妈妈，以后要记得关水龙头哦！”妈妈回答说：“好的，我记住了。”

我记得还有一次，我有一道数学题不会做，要用草稿本来写草稿，但是，我的草稿本不见了，所以我让妈妈给我买一个新的。但姐姐对我我说：“不用了，做草稿用什么纸都行，何必买新的呢？”

同学们，让我们行动起来，珍惜资源，少用一次性用品，少开私家车，少开空调等。让我们把清远建设得越来越美！

俗话说得好：由俭入奢易，由奢入俭难。在飞速发展的现代社会中，注意节俭的人却越来越少，奢侈的人反而越来越多。水资源贫乏、耕地减少、自然条件恶化……如果任由这样发展，我们生活的地球将会遭受到越来越严重的破坏，甚至会威胁到人类的生命。为此，我们必须厉行勤俭节约。

勤俭节约，从节约每一滴水开始。“水是生命之源”，没有了水人就会失去生命。话虽如此，可真正节约水的人又有多少呢?我们经常看到公共场所自来水龙头哗哗作响，没有人去关掉;原来清澈的小河变得浑浊不堪，喝水再也没法喝了……如果人们再意识不到浪费水的危害，那么地球上活活被渴死的人数会多么可怕!亲爱的朋友们，从现在开始，从自我做起，珍惜每一滴水吧!

勤俭节约，从节约每一粒粮食开始。在小学时，我们就学过“一粥一饭当思来之不易，半丝半缕恒念物力维艰”。在饭店里，我们经常看到很多菜没有吃完便被倒掉了。在学校食堂里，有些同学馒头没吃完便扔掉了。但是，我们也看到：在非洲，有许许多多的儿童被饿死;在全世界，仍有很多人饱受饥饿的煎熬……想想吧，朋友们，我们随手倒掉的，扔掉的，正是那些饥饿的人们的丰盛的美餐啊!请在吃饭时想想自己的饭量，请在看到有人浪费时间进行提醒，相信我们的每一点努力都会挽救一个饥饿的生命。

勤俭节约是我们中华民族的传统美德。有了它，才能确保世世代代国富民强、国泰民安。那么，请让我们从点滴小事做起，养成勤俭节约的好习惯。
