In the U.S. Mothers Day is a holiday celebrated on second Sunday in May. It is a day when children honor their mothers with cards, gifts, and flowers. First observance in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1907, it is based on suggestions by Julia Ward Howe in 1872 and by Anna Jarvis in 1907.

Although it wasnt celebrated in the U.S. until 1907, there were days honoring mothers even in the days of ancient Greece. In those days, however, it was Rhea, the Mother of the gods that was given honor.

Later, in the 1600s, in England there was an annual observance called "Mothering Sunday." It was celebrated during June, on the fourth Sunday. On Mothering Sunday, the servants, who generally lived with their employers, were encouraged to return home and honor their mothers. It was traditional for them to bring a special cake along to celebrate the occasion.

In the U.S., in 1907 Ana Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began a campaign to establish a national Mothers Day. Jarvis persuaded her mothers church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mothers Day on the second anniversary of her mothers death, the 2nd Sunday of May. The next year Mothers Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia.

Jarvis and others began a letter-writing campaign to ministers, businessmen, and politicians in their quest to establish a national Mothers Day. They were successful. President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official announcement proclaiming Mothers Day a national observance that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May.

Many other countries of the world celebrate their own Mothers Day at different times throughout the year. Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium celebrate Mothers Day on the second Sunday in May, as in the U.S.

(合)：各位同学，下午好，5月10日是母亲节也是感恩节，为了表达对母亲的爱与感谢，我们就此举办“感谢母亲”主题班会，现在我宣布“感谢母亲”主题班会正式开始!

(甲)：现在，请允许我介绍本次主题班会的议程：1、欣赏音乐;2、朗诵;3、欣赏小品;4、问答题;5、大合唱

(二)欣赏音乐——《母亲》(约4分钟)

(乙)下面我们将进行第一个环节——欣赏音乐《母亲》，请大家在欣赏的过程中用心去感受母亲的辛劳。

(甲)欣赏了这么感人的音乐后，你有什么感想啊?

(乙)我认为：母亲，她不仅给了我们生命，而且给了我们无私的爱，即便自己再苦再累也无怨无悔，作为子女，在平日的生活中我们一定要体谅母亲的辛劳。

(甲)是啊，母爱是无私的，在任何时候都一样。得意时，母亲不一定能在我们身边和我们一起分享成功的喜悦。但她那淳淳教诲总能让我们不再迷失自己。失意的时候，母亲一定能在我们的身边。她的鼓励及安慰，总能让我们在逆境中找到自我。下面我们掌声请出梁露华同学，让她为我们朗诵—— 《献给母亲的爱》

有一种爱，一生一世不求回报——那便是母爱;有一个人，一生一世值得你爱——那便是母亲。天下之爱莫过于母爱。从“孟母三迁”到“岳母刺字”关于母亲的故事流传古今，从《烛光里的妈妈》到《白发亲娘》，赞颂母亲的歌曲处处传唱。慈祥、奉献成为母亲的代名词，崇高、伟大就是母亲的形象。我们骄傲，因为母亲是家庭的脊梁，有了你们，才有了温暖的怀抱和停靠的港湾;我们自豪，因为母亲是社会的主人，有了你们，才有不让须眉的巾帼和建设家乡的奉献;我们欣喜，因为母亲节为你们而设立，你们赢得了社会的敬重和儿女的爱戴。谁不爱自己的母亲，母亲天复地载。借助今天主题班会的契机，让我们都带着笑容回家看看，向母亲倾一腔情、献一份爱，为母亲解一丝忧、送一片乐!尽管时光像流水一逝而去，但任凭时光的冲刷，母爱永远长驻而不会流逝。“树欲静而风不止，子欲养而亲不待”。是啊，趁母亲还健在的时候，去爱她吧。

的确，母爱是伟大的。在这个世界上，我们永远需要报答的人，就是母亲。我们永远报答不完的，也是母亲。平时，我们一定要记住妈妈的叮咛，在学校里尊师勤学，长知识、长身体、长才干，对自己美好的人生负责，让妈妈放心!这是感谢母亲的最好方法。 下面我们继续欣赏一部小品。

(甲)的确，母亲为了孕育我们，每天都在重复着简单、琐碎，而又必不可少的家务工作，这是千千万万个母亲生活的真实写照。现在让我们全班同学合唱《感恩的心》，献给自己日夜辛劳的母亲。

(乙)随着优美的歌声，我们的主题班会也接近了尾声，现在我们用热烈的掌声请出我们的班主任为本次主题班会做小结。

Of all the festival in western countries, I thinkMother’s Day which is always on the second Sunday in May every year is better than any other festival.

Not only in the foreign countries but also in China, Mother’s Day has become more and more popular in recent years. It’s a special holiday to show our love to mothers. Many children will do some special things for their mom on that day, such as buying a gift of love, helping to do the housework and so on. Sending a pink or red carnation is always the best choice to their mom.

In my opinion, it’s time to take actions to do something to let moms enjoy the whole day and feel our love.
