春节一般指除夕和正月初一。但在民间，传统意义上的春节是指从腊月初八的腊祭或腊月二十三或二十四的祭灶，一直到正月十五，其中以除夕和正月初一为高潮。在春节期间，我国的汉族和很多少数民族都要举行各种活动以示庆祝。这些活动均以祭祀神佛、祭奠祖先、除旧布新、迎禧接福、祈求丰年为主要内容。活动丰富多彩，带有浓郁的民族特色。

中国农历年的岁首称为春节。是中国人民最隆重的传统节日，也象征团结、兴旺，对未来寄托新的希望的佳节。据记载，中国人民过春节已有4千多年的历史，它是由虞舜兴起的。公元前两千多年的一天，舜即天子位，带领着部下人员，祭拜天地。从此，人们就把这一天当作岁首，算是正月初一。据说这就是农历新年的由来，后来叫春节。春节过去也叫元旦。春节所在的这一月叫元月。

但是，中国历代元旦的日期并不一致：夏朝用孟春的元月为正月，商朝用腊月(十二月)为正月，秦始皇统一六国后以十月为正月，汉朝初期沿用秦历。汉武帝刘彻感到历纪太乱，就命令大臣公孙卿和司马迁造“太阳历”，规定以农历正月为一岁之首，以正月初一为一年的第一天，就是元旦。此后中国一直沿用夏历(阴历，又称农历)纪年，直到清朝未年，长达2080年。

春节不同时代有不同名称。在先秦时叫“上日”、“元日”、“改岁”、“献岁”等;到了两汉时期，又被叫为“三朝”、“岁旦”、“正旦”、“正日”;魏晋南北朝时称为“元辰”、“元日”、“元首”、 “岁朝”等;到了唐宋元明，则称为“元旦”、“元 ”、“岁日”、“新正”、“新元”等;而清代，一直叫“元旦”或“元日”。

1912年孙中山在南京就任中华民国临时大总统时，宣布废除旧历改用阳历(即公历)，用民国纪年。并决定以公元1912年1月1日为民国元年1月1日。一月一日叫新年，但不称元旦。但民间仍按传统沿用旧历即夏历，仍在当年2月18日(壬子年正月初一)过传统新年，其他传统节日也照旧。有鉴于此，1913年(民国二年)7月，当时的袁世凯批准以正月初一为春节，并同意春节例行放假，次年起开始实行。自此夏历岁首称“春节”。 现行“春节”称谓只有95年历史

1949年9月27日，中国人民政治协商会议第一届全体会议决定在建立中华人民共和国的同时，采用世界通用的公元纪年。为了区分阳历和阴历两个“年”，又因一年24节气的“立春”恰在农历年的前后，故把阳历一月一日称为“元旦”，农历正月初一正式改称“春节”。

地球绕太阳一周，历法上叫一年，循环往复，永无止境。但是，人们根据春、夏、秋、冬四季节气的不同，就以夏历正月初一为一年的岁首。每年农历十二月三十日(小月二十九)半夜子时(十二点)过后，春节就算正式来到了。

临近春节，人们采办年货，除夕时，全家团聚在一起吃年夜饭。贴年画、春联;迎接新的一年来临。

随着新中国的建立，春节庆祝活动更为丰富多彩。不仅保留了过去民间习俗，剔除了一些带有封建迷信的活动，而且增加了不少新的内容。使春节具有新的时代气息。1949年12月23日，中华人民共和国人民政府规定每年春节放假三天。

中国是个多民族的国家，各民族过新年的形式各有不同。汉族、满族和朝鲜族过春节的风俗习惯差不多，全家团圆，人们吃年糕、水饺以及各种丰盛的饭菜、张灯结彩，燃放鞭炮，并互相祝福。春节期间的庆祝活动极为丰富多样，有舞狮、耍龙的，也有踩高跷、跑旱船的。在有些地区人们沿袭过去祭祖敬神活动，祈求新的一年风调雨顺，平安、丰收。古代的蒙古族，把春节叫做“白节”，正月叫白月，是吉祥如意的意思。藏族是过藏历年。回族、维吾尔族、哈萨克族等，是过“古尔邦节”。春节也是苗族、僮族、瑶族等的盛大节日。

The meaning of many different customs observed during Easter Sunday have been buried with time. Their origins lie in pre-Christian religions and Christianity. All in some way or another are a salute to spring, marking re-birth. The white Easter lily has come to capture the glory of the holiday. The word Easter is named after Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring. A festival was held in her honor every year at the vernal equinox (春分).

People celebrate the holiday according to their beliefs and their religious denominations (命名). Christians commemorate Good Friday as the day that Jesus Christ died and Easter Sunday as the day that He was resurrected (复活). Protestant settlers brought the custom of a sunrise service, a religious gathering at dawn, to the United States.

This year Easter will be celebrated on Sunday April 11, 2004. On Easter Sunday children wake up to find that the Easter Bunny has left them baskets of candy. He has also hidden the eggs that they decorated earlier that week. Children hunt for the eggs all around the house. Neighborhoods and organizations hold Easter egg hunts, and the child who finds the most eggs wins a prize.

The Easter Bunny is a rabbit-spirit. Long ago, he was called the Easter Hare. Hares and rabbits have frequent multiple births so they became a symbol of fertility. The custom of an Easter egg hunt began because children believed that hares laid eggs in the grass. The Romans believed that All life comes from an egg. Christians consider eggs to be the seed of life and so they are symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Why we dye, or color, and decorate eggs is not certain. In ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and Persia eggs were dyed for spring festivals. In medieval Europe, beautifully decorated eggs were given as gifts.

The Spring Festival， Chinese New Year， the most important festival for all of us. All family members get together on New YearEve to have a big meal.At the same time， everyone celebrates to each other.At about 12 oclock，some parents and children light crackers.The whole sky  lighted brightly. We may watch the fireworks excitedly.How busy it !

On the first early moring of one year， many senior citizen get up early and they stick the reversed Fu or hang some couplets on the front door. Some houses windows are sticked on red paper cutlings.

The Chinese New Year lasts fifteen days. So during the fifteen days， we always vit our relatives from door to door. At that time， children are the happiest because they can get many red packets form their parents，grandparents， uncles， aunts and so on. The last day of the Chinese New Year  another festival.

When it comes to the Lantern Festival, it means the end of the Spring Festival.

On the thirty night, we ate the dinner on New Years Eve, I cant wait to turn on the TV to see the Spring Festival evening party, and finally to eight points, the Spring Festival evening party started, there are a lot of wonderful programs inside! I love the performance of Louis Liu... Magic, magic! Because one of the magic tricks he performed was that he passed a coin straight through a piece of solid glass, and his hands were worn out of the glass.

Chinese New Year or Spring Festival  the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It  sometimes called the "Lunar New Year" by Englh speakers. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; th day  called Lantern Festival. Chinese New Years Eve  known as chú xī. It literally means "Year-pass Eve".

Chinese New Year  the longest and most important festivity in the Lunar Calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year  itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Ancient Chinese New Year  a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most.

Celebrated in areas with large populations of ethnic Chinese, Chinese New Year  considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans (Seollal), Tibetans and Bhutanese (Losar), Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar), Vietnamese (Tt), and formerly the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu). Outside of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, Chinese New Year  also celebrated in countries with significant Han Chinese populations, such as Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. In countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States, although Chinese New Year  not an official holiday, many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Australia Post, Canada Post, and the US Postal Service sues New Years themed stamps.

Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People will pour out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It  also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of “happiness”, “wealth”, and “longevity”. On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper  a feast with families. Food will include such items as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by whing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition  a great way to reconcile forgetting all grudges, and sincerely wh peace and happiness for everyone.

Although the Chinese calendar traditionally does not use continuously numbered years, outside China its years are often numbered from the reign of Huangdi. But at least three different years numbered 1 are now used by various scholars, making the year 2009 "Chinese Year" 4707, 4706, or 4646.

When I am a childhood， I celebrated the spring festival with my family about amonth in my winter vacation in traditional way， such as helping cleaning our houses， putting red couplets on gates， setting off firecrackers， and wear new clothes. Now， I spend only 4 or 5 days at home with my parents in celebrating thespring festival， then I will hurry back to work. Maybe in the near future， I will have no time celebrating spring festival hometown， and my parents have to cometo stay with us in the city.

Whether or no， I like the spring festival. It is one of the most important part of our Chinese culture. However busy I am， I will try my best to celebrating it with thetraditional way to protect those our ancestor has leave behind.

The New Year has come. Many people have returned to their hometowns for a long time.

We bought a new Spring Festival couplets and fireworks, go back to home, I cant wait to old Spring Festival couplets to tear down, and the new put up Spring Festival couplets, I just ready to put a new Spring Festival couplets, was blocked by the mother, she said: "to have a look at it first!"
