My father, Winston Churchill, began his love affair with painting in his 40s, amid disastrous circumstances. As First Lord of the Admiralty in 1915, he was deeply involved in a campaign in the Dardanelles that could have shortened the course of a bloody world war. Wandering in the garden one day, he chanced upon his sister-in-law sketching with watercolors. He watched her for a few minutes, then borrowed her brush and tried his hand. The muse had cast her spell!

Churchill soon decided to experiment with oils. Delighted with this distraction from his dark broodings, Clementine rushed off to buy whatever paints she could find.

For Churchill, however, the next step seemed difficult as he contemplated with unaccustomed nervousness the blameless whiteness of a new canvas. He started with the sky and later described how “very gingerly I mixed a little blue paint on the palette, and then with infinite precaution made a mark about as big as a bean upon the affronted snow-white shield. At that moment the sound of a motor car was heard in the drive. From this chariot stepped the gifted wife of Sir John Lavery .”

“ ‘Painting!’ she declared. ‘But what are you hesitating about? Let me have the brush — the big one.’ Splash into the turpentine, wallop into the blue and the white, frantic flourish on the palette, and then several fierce strokes and slashes of blue on the absolutely cowering canvas.”

At that time, John Lavery— a Churchill neighbor and celebrated painter— was tutoring Churchill in his art. Later, Lavery said of his unusual pupil: “Had he chosen painting instead of statesmanship, I believe he would have been a great master with the brush.”

In painting, Churchill had discovered a companion with whom he was to walk for the greater part of the years that remained to him. After the war, painting would offer deep solace when, in 1921, the death of the mother was followed two months later by the loss of his and Clementine’s beloved three-year-old daughter, Marigold. Battered by grief, Winston took refuge at the home of friends in Scotland, finding comfort in his painting. He wrote to Clementine: “I went out and painted a beautiful river in the afternoon light with crimson and golden hills in the background. Alas I keep feeling the hurt of the Duckadilly (Marigold’s pet name).”

Historians have called the decade after 1929, when the Conservative government fell and Winston was out of office, his wilderness years. Politically he may have been wandering in barren places, a lonely fighter trying to awaken Britain to the menace of Hitler, but artistically that wilderness bore abundant fruit. During these years he often painted in the South of France. Of the 500-odd canvases extant, roughly 250 date from 1930 to 1939.

Painting remained a joy to Churchill to the end of his life. “Happy are the painters,” he had written in his book Painting as a Pastime, “ for they shall not be lonely. Light and color, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end of the day.” And so it was for my father.

特点三：准确性

句子的准确性指句子内部没有不准确的，不必要的词。

特点四：重点突出

好的句子应该重点突出，词的选择，词的重复都有助于句子的重点突出。

Eg. When the bank robbers entered the bank they yelled, "dont move!"

【分析】这个句子比较平淡，可以修改一下动词。

【提升】When the bank robbers rushed into the bank they yelled, "dont move!"

特点五：语法正确，句式多变

句式多变指句子长短结合。如果全篇都是复杂的长难句，文章读起来会晦涩难懂，并且有挑衅阅卷人之嫌。反之，全篇都是短句，感觉有侮辱阅卷人之感。

我一听，走过去，对表弟说：这是你妈呀！你连妈妈和白脸老妖都分不清，你这几年吃的饭都到哪儿去了？表弟说：在肚子里。他问妈妈：妈妈你为什么要办成白脸老妖呢？他妈说：我没扮白脸老妖，这是敷面膜有什么用？白。

我也要美白。

不行，你是男孩子。

表弟听后，板着脸回到房间，他想：我的屁股今天早上被妈妈打过一次，何不到妈妈那里拿张面膜，敷到屁股上，让屁股好好地美白美白。于是，表弟拿定了主意，到他妈妈房间拿了一张面膜，来到自己房间，敷在屁股上。

一会儿，他妈妈叫他去吃饭，推开门，一看到的就是表弟的白屁股。

our family enjoyed a wonderful new years evening family dinner because it is seldom to get so many relatives to get together.my uncle,aunt and cousin,my best friend,came and had dinner with us.it took almost whole afternoon to prepare the dishes.of course,that is a chance to show my mom and my aunts cooking skill.we also try to do something to help them,but,what we got was "going to play".it is happy for me to hear that rather than "go to do your homework".the evening dinner is so good,everyone enjoyed and aet overload to their stomach.so wonderful dinner,so wonderful new year.

我有一个既调皮又可爱的表弟，他叫王云哲，今年九岁，个子高高的，脑袋圆圆的，眼睛黑黑的，还会大耳朵图图一样的“动耳神功”，弟弟有些胖，都98斤了，我总是告诉弟弟该减肥了，再继续胖下去就不帅啦！

从小我和弟弟一起长大，我们之间发生过很多有趣的事情，最令我难忘的一件事是弟弟教我玩悠悠球。

记得有一次，弟弟从他的许多玩具中找出几个悠悠球，一个人在客厅里玩，当时我并不感兴趣，可是后来我看见弟弟玩的很开心、很认真，还能玩出许多花样。我心想：“难道悠悠球真的那么好玩吗？弟弟自己玩都很开心”。我很想试试，于是对弟弟说：“借我一个悠悠球玩好吗？”弟弟毫不犹豫的给了我一个金黄色的悠悠球，我还给它起了一个好听的名字“金凤凰”。我学着弟弟的样子，把悠悠球的绳子套在手指上，然后向下甩，可是悠悠球提到半空就掉下来了，我去问弟弟，弟弟神气的对我说：“是因为你的人品有问题！嘿嘿，我开玩笑呢！我来教你。”说着拿出悠悠球，让我照着他的样子做，弟弟边说边做，那认真的样子，我还是第一次见，弟弟告诉我：“你把悠悠球拿稳，把手抬高，使足力气，放开、收起。”弟弟也一直在旁边指导我，后来我成功的把悠悠球收了上去，兴奋的对表弟说：“弟弟，我学会啦！”弟弟说：“姐，你真牛！”从那以后，我也开始喜欢玩悠悠球了！

通过这件事，我知道了弟弟虽然调皮，但也是一个乐于帮助别人的小男生，我更喜欢他了。

这就是我的表弟，我们一起学习，一起游戏，一起快乐的长大！

我的表弟叫小宇，快两岁了。我妈妈总爱叫他“小美女”。为什么呢？因为他有一双水汪汪的大眼睛忽闪忽闪的，像会说话似的。特别是他长长的眼睫毛像电烫过似的，微微的向上翘，粉嫩嫩的小脸像水蜜桃，真想咬一口。这下你知道我弟弟为什么叫“小美女”了吧！

出去玩的时候，好多人说：“这小姑娘真好看”！我们每次都要解释：“我们是小男生哟！”看，“小美女”的名气有多大。

表弟特别喜欢车，每次我去他家玩时，他都会拿出一大箱玩具车向我展示。这个红的是消防车，那个黄色的是能开门的小轿车，还有遥控车，好多好多的玩具车，都数不过来了。他家还有一辆特别大的玩具车，能装下我和表弟。每次玩的时候，表弟都向我张开小手让我把他抱上车。上了车，表弟就拍着方向盘，嘴里大叫着：“开车，嘟嘟……”！那小样，真像一个指挥官呢！我就用力踩油门，车一下向前冲去，表弟手舞足蹈，眼睛都不愿意眨一下。我要是停下了，他就很麻利的下车，趴在车下看，呵呵，人家可是在修车呢！修好了车，他把我拉下来，自己坐到玩具车上，大踩油门向客厅行驶。到了一个大幅度的拐弯，大家都拭目以待地看着表弟，只见表弟一个刹车，又一个大转弯，顺利的开了过去，让大家啧啧称奇。

他要是哭闹时，只要小舅妈说快看大汽车，他立刻睁开大眼睛东看西看的，还让小舅妈抱他上窗边看大汽车去。小舅每次开车回家只要是让表弟看到了，都会让小舅开车带他玩，坐在车里看着路上来来往往的车，表弟就大唱：美了，美了……表弟可真是一个名副其实的小车迷啊！

表弟还是一个小馋猫。看我吃好吃的或是桌上有好吃的，他就会拉着我的手，冲我吧嗒嘴。我就故意的逗他：“你要干什么啊？”把表弟急的大叫：“姐姐，我要吃。”最爱看他吃蛋糕的小样，先把奶油吃掉，吃的满嘴都是，像一个白胡子老爷爷。再抓起黄灿灿软绵绵的蛋糕大口的吃起来，还冲我眨眼睛。看我手里的比他大，他立刻把他手里的蛋糕往我手里一放，然后把我的蛋糕拿走。为了不辜负我给他的美称，他可把自己喂成了标准的小胖墩，走起来小屁股一翘一翘的，别提有多可爱了。

可爱的表弟，给我们带来无尽的欢乐和笑声。

我的表弟豆豆要满六岁了，住在上海，这几天来到成都，我有机会和他玩了两天。发现小小年纪的他居然是个很“潮”的人！他说话总是竭力模仿大人，比如他纠正我对“龙凤胎”的叫法，我为了省事把我的一对一模一样的小熊直接叫“双胞胎”。他马上纠正“同时生的一男一女不叫双胞胎，叫狂风胎！”我明白他的意思后哈哈大笑起来“狂风胎，狂风胎。。。。”豆豆却一本正经地说：“本来就是狂风胎嘛！”我笑得肚子痛，幸好大人纠正了他的叫法，要不他的笑话可就闹大了。

豆豆还喜欢听《nobody》和LADY GAGA的歌，我大吃一惊，我的班级可谓活力四射，估计也没有几个人知道LADY GAGA吧？

豆豆是个特别好奇的小孩子，他总是不停地问问题“洁癖是什么意思？”“疯子是什么意思？”“X是什么意思？”“文轩是什么？”这是什么，那是什么。。。。。从相框到我说的话，从滑轮箱到奥数，几乎每样东西他都好奇，都要问个不停，直到把我说得口干舌燥，而且很多事情都不用问，自己动脑子想想就知道答案的。我觉得我都快被他问得精神崩溃，有这种刨根问底的精神固然好，但是我可真受不了他，真是又欣慰又无奈。

豆豆还很坚强，在我俩玩追逐赛时，我翻过沙发跳上窗台，“沿着我的路线来追我，快！”豆豆用两只无力的手撑住靠背，用力一跳“呯！”的一声，重重摔在地上，他已经跑得气喘如牛，汗流浃背，“来呀！来呀！快！”我轻盈地从电视机背后跳到地上，豆豆骨子里不服输的劲儿让他在地上打了个滚儿又站了起来，奋力朝我追来。我惊险地在狭窄的沙发靠背上跑，豆豆走到一半就摔了下来，脑袋差点撞到地上。。。但是他每一次都坚强地站起来，继续追赶，不哭闹也不耍赖。

这就是我的表弟，一个很“潮”，爱刨根问底，坚强的小男孩。
