主题句又叫中心句(topic sentence)，是段落的论点，限制段落中议论的范围，是整个段落的纲领。主题句必须要正确，要明确表明作者赞成什么，反对什么。主题句在一篇百来字的议论文中好比“画龙点睛”，帮助作者分层次阐述自己的观点，让读者快速了解作者的观点。

1、确定主题句的位置

英语议论文的主题句宜设在段首第一句，这是由以下两个因素决定的。1)、主题句出现的位置有三种情况：①在段首，以便读者浏览主题句就可掌握文章的概要，这个位置适用于写提供信息或解释观点的段落;②在段末;③段中(高长梅，2000)。2)、英语民族的思维特点是常采用路标式(直线式)篇章结构，即主题句在段首。

2、写出好的主题句

好的主题句具有以下特点：①有一定的概括性，普遍性而不是罗列具体事实。②句意明确而不是模糊不着边际。③让人有话可写而不是给出无可辩驳的事实。④不以问题的方式出现，也不要同时表达两个以上的观点。笔者要求学生写了以下的主题句：

3)There are two reasons why some people are fascinated by Super Girls and two reasons why some dislike them.

从行文需要出发选用恰当的连接词、过渡句可使整篇文章文句流畅，句意转换自然，同时使表达合乎逻辑，文章结构严谨。倘若一篇议论文的段落里不乏高级词汇和复杂语法结构，但缺少了连接词、过渡句的润色而不能从一个观点自然地过渡到另一个观点，或段落里的各论据(supporting sentence)连接松散，势必削弱论证的效果，就算不上一篇好的议论文。下面分别说明如何有效运用连接词与过渡句。

1、句与句的连接词

连接词通常由连词、副词、介词短语和插入语等充当。如何有效使用连接词，使句意连贯、紧凑，以体现文章良好的严密的论证逻辑?

2.段与段的过渡句

过渡句帮助作者展示文章的条理和层次。恰当运用过渡句能使表达锦上添花。当文章从一个层次转换到另一个层次，或由一段内容转入另一段内容时需要用过渡句。恰当有效的运用过渡句，效果明显(见下文，题目及要求略，黑体部分为过渡句)。

虽然，“人可以衣装，佛可以金装”，通过外在的包装会改变形象，但内在的、骨子里的“底气”仍是无法包装的。还记得陈佩斯和朱时茂演的小品《主角和配角》，陈佩斯抢演朱时茂的主角八路军，让朱时茂演配角汉奸，然而不管陈佩斯怎么穿那身八路军军服，举手投足间流露的尽是匪气与歪气，而朱时茂哪怕穿一身汉奸服装，给人的感觉也是打入汉奸队伍的“地下党”。

这就是形象。无需装饰，举手投足间，一颦一笑中，自然而然流露出为人、人品、身份。这有些象京剧中的脸谱，尖眉子菜刀脸，脑门勾个圆光是弄权害人的宦官;圆形眼花鼻窝，脑门上一个红色舍利圆光是僧人。就连脸谱色彩也有固定的形象意义，红表忠勇，黑表刚直，白表奸邪，黄表阴狠。观众只需要看一眼脸谱就能明白舞台形象的性格、品格、身份甚至地位。

脸谱是观众对舞台人物形象的一种认同。

这种认同也由舞台渐渐深入到日常生活，人们凭借生活经验，将一类类人的形象脸谱化。颐指气使，爱理不理是官吏;左顾右盼，看人说话是商人;步履矫健，一脸威仪是军人;温文尔雅，谈吐得体是教师;卷着裤腿，脸色黝黑是农民……而后，又根据这些“形象化脸谱”去判别、衡量身边的人，从而确定如何与其交往、合作。

有一回，我去一所学校找同学，按照门卫老师的要求，办好了一切手续，然而就在我准备进校的时候，门卫老师又突然叫住了我，神色慌张地问我是哪个学校的，来这里干什么，我详细地告诉了他，但门卫老师一会低头看看我填的单子，一会又朝我脸上、身上直看，一定要我拿出可确定身份的凭证，不然还是不能进学校。好不容易等到一个熟人，好说歹说，给作了担保，才进了学校。身后，门卫老师还和我的熟人嘀咕：“这人一脸流气，头发老长，我哪敢放进去?有事，你可要负责!……”

我才明白，原来是我的“形象”让他生疑。

其实，生活不是京剧，生活中的人不可能有固定的“脸谱”。胡在台上是高唱“清正廉明”的省长，在台下是腐化透顶的败类;李真在人前是标榜要成为焦裕禄般的好干部，在人后是收受巨额贿赂的贪官……倘若我们只停留在外在的“形象化脸谱”，按“脸谱”判别人，那就以为冤枉了“好人”。毕竟人是复杂的，不是豆腐青菜“青白分明”，活生生的人更善于“变脸”，尤其是那些“坏人”，他们往往学会了狼外婆式的包装，以骗取“兔与羊”般善良的人们，从而赢得“好人形象”。

形象固然重要，倘若将形象脸谱化那就要不得了。

善良的人们应该揭开包装在“形象”外的“面具”，只有这样才能正确地判别人。
