Many of these traditions began with the Mesopotamian celebration of New Years. The Mesopotamians believed in many gods, and as their chief god-Marduk. Each year as winter arrived it was believed that Marduk would do battle with the monsters of chaos. To assist Marduk in his struggle the Mesopotamians held a festival for the New Year. This was Zagmuk, the New Years festival that lasted for 12 days.

The Persians and the Babylonians celebrated a similar festival called the Sacaea. Part of that celebration included the exchanging of places, the slaves would become the masters and the masters were to obey. 好不容易盼到了晚会的到来。第一个节目是笛子合奏《友谊歌》。笛声悠扬动听，使我们也忍不住在观众席上轻轻吟唱起来。不知不觉，这个节目在同学们雷鸣般的掌声中结束了。接着，我们连忙喷出美丽的雪花彩带迎接着下一个节目——笑话。表演者是高个子龚关和捣蛋鬼张振宇。他们风趣幽默的对话和滑稽的动作表演，惹得我们个个捧腹大笑。

晚会在欢乐的气氛中进行着，演员们使出全身解数，来博得观众的笑声和掌声。观众们个个笑得脸红通通的，巴掌都拍痛了。晚会接近尾声时，我们全班同学拿出了最后的秘密武器——五颜六色的花瓣，抛向空中，抛向演员们……

看着这些美丽的花瓣，我想：在这个特殊的日子里，圣诞老人成了我们最可爱的人。
