蛇是一种长而瘦的动物，生活在草地或其他黑暗的地方。蛇没有腿，也没有脚，但它的胃可以移动得很快。蛇通常有绿色，黄色或黑色的皮肤，这使得他们很难找到他们的敌人。有些蛇生活在水中。他们可以像鱼一样自由地游。蛇是冷血动物。在冬天他们洞孔，足够窄只有抓住蛇的身体。蛇可以在整个冬天睡觉，不吃也不动。他们感觉不到任何痛苦。冬眠期持续五个月左右。当春天来了，蛇出来，开始他们的正常生活。

蛇可以吃很多东西，例如老鼠，麻雀，青蛙，鸟蛋，害虫等等。人们有时会看到蛇吃麻雀。它先向麻雀靠近，然后吐出舌头，把麻雀放进嘴里吞下去，使蛇身上有个疙瘩。一段时间后肿块消失。

蛇看起来很可怕，人们都怕它们。许多人开车时，他们看到蛇。但在中国神话中，蛇决不是坏的。他们似乎有人情。他们可以变成漂亮的女孩。人们喜欢并尊重他们。最有名的是关于白蛇和蓝蛇的故事。

事实上，蛇并不像看上去那么可怕。他们可以帮助我们杀死老鼠和害虫。他们可以为我们提供美味的肉。他们的血是好喝的。毒蛇特别有用。我们可以用他们制造有价值的药物。
