所以这天，几乎所有人家都要吃上一顿腊八粥以示重视和欢庆。当然，我家也不例外。

从小到大，我吃过很多类型的腊八粥，有勾芡粉勾的极多以使粥浓稠的早点店里的八宝粥，有米类放的多的汤色灰白的粥，有红豆类居多的汤色深红的粥等等，我却始终觉得家中熬的粥最是好吃。

在家当姑娘时，腊八粥的掌厨者是已故去的姥姥和我亲爱的老爹，间或是外面的早点铺子。初结婚时，便换与老肖，后来便都是婆婆了。每至腊八前好久，婆婆便开始戴着花镜挑那麦，豆，芝麻等谷物，挑出那模样好看，颗粒饱满的备用，并提前一天便把粥米泡好。

我是赖床的人且不擅长做饭，婆婆也心疼我们工作辛苦，很少用我帮忙。故而每个腊八的早晨，我都是在睡梦中被香甜的粥香唤醒的，今年也不例外。

天还未亮，婆婆就已在厨房忙活，火上坐着的锅里，米已开花，豆已爆裂，花生已脱了皮，红枣已裂开嘴，所有的食材温顺地在锅里咕嘟咕嘟炸裂着，散发着诱人的香味。

婆婆不断的用勺子搅拌着粥，又仔细听着侧卧中甜甜宝贝的动静，我则在卧室忙着收拾也听着外面她们的动静。锅中腊八粥渐稠，心中暖暖爱渐浓。

最初，悉达多太子四处访师求道，请教过当时不少著名的学者，还向两位极有名气的山洞隐居者学会了两种不同的禅定方法。不久，他感到修习禅定并没有使自己获得解脱，决定绝迹深涧，独修苦行。悉达多太子来到尼连禅那河畔的山林里，结草为庵，睡在鹿粪堆和牛粪堆上，并逐日缩减饮食，终至七天才吃一餐，而且每餐只有“一麻一米”（一粒野生的麻子和一粒米），历尽了艰辛。

六年的时间过去了，悉达多太子已经煎熬得形同槁木，瘦骨嶙峋，衰弱不堪，却仍然没有获得解脱！在这种情况下，悉达多太子决定放弃苦修。他艰难地走出树林，喝了牧女送的牛奶粥，又到尼连禅那河里洗去身上的积垢，逐渐恢复了体力。一个月以后，他拜谢了一直用牛奶粥供养自己的牧女，登上尼连禅那河西岸的伽耶山，挑选了一棵能遮阳蔽雨的大菩提树，在树下面坐了下来。经过七天七夜的冥思苦索，悉达多太子对于社会与人生进行了全面的思考。他终于得出了这样的结论：纵欲的享乐生活是堕落，禁欲的苦行生活是痛苦，只有避开这两个极端，奉行不苦不乐的“中道”，才能获得清净之心，正确认识人生。他认为：世界是变化的，人生是无常的，“贪欲”、“激愤”和“愚痴”给人们造成了各种痛苦和烦恼，只有抛弃对于外在物质的追求，断除一切欲念，努力修行正道，才能跳出生死轮回，获得灵魂的解脱。就这样，在第七天的黎明，当太阳冉冉升起的时候，悉达多太子宣布自己“悟道成佛”了。这一天，是印度历的二月八日（相当于我国的农历十二月初八）。

由于悉达多太子是释迦族人，所以在他成佛后被尊称为“释迦牟尼”，意思是“释迦族的圣人”。

“佛成道日”，是佛教的一个重大节日。由于释迦牟尼是喝牛奶粥才恢复体力的，所以后世佛教信众认为“粥”有极大的功德，每逢“佛成道日”，寺院里的僧尼们都要煮“佛粥”，纪念释迦牟尼结束苦修而重新进食。

当年，释迦牟尼喝的牛奶粥，是牛奶发酵而成的膏状物，与今天的酸奶类似。印度佛教煮的“佛粥”大多是“乳糜”———把米、粟等放在牛奶或马奶中煮成的粥。由于中原地区的古人没有喝牛奶的习惯，汉地寺院里的“佛粥”牛奶成分很少，多为糯米、枣果、菜蔬等，叫做“五味粥”或“七宝粥”。

后来，随着佛教在汉地越来越广泛、越来越深入的传播，在家信徒也纷纷在农历十二月初八日这一天煮粥。这个风气很快流传开来。
