The story of Christmas comes chiefly from the Gospels of Saint Luke and Saint Matthew in the New Testament.

The history of Christmas dates back over 4000 years. Many of our Christmas traditions were celebrated centuries before the Christ child was born. The 12 days of Christmas, the bright fires, the yule log, the giving of gifts, carnivals(parades) with floats, carolers who sing while going from house to house, the holiday feasts, and the church processions can all be traced back to the early Mesopotamians.

Many of these traditions began with the Mesopotamian celebration of New Years. The Mesopotamians believed in many gods, and as their chief god-Marduk. Each year as winter arrived it was believed that Marduk would do battle with the monsters of chaos. To assist Marduk in his struggle the Mesopotamians held a festival for the New Year. This was Zagmuk, the New Years festival that lasted for 12 days.

The Persians and the Babylonians celebrated a similar festival called the Sacaea. Part of that celebration included the exchanging of places, the slaves would become the masters and the masters were to obey. The ancient Greeks held a festival similar to that of the Zagmuk/Sacaea festivals to assist their god Kronos who would battle the god Zeus and his Titans.

The Romans celebrated their god Saturn. Their festival was called Saturnalia which began the middle of December and ended January 1st. With cries of Jo Saturnalia! the celebration would include masquerades in the streets, big festive meals, visiting friends, and the exchange of good-luck gifts called Strenae (lucky fruits). Some legends claim that the Christian Christmas celebration was invented to compete against the pagan celebrations of December. 自小，我就在想：圣诞节有圣诞树，还有即使是不存在的有趣的圣诞老人，还可以同学朋友之间互相送礼物，如果中国的圣诞节也像春节那么盛大该多好啊，每家有一棵高至天花板的碧绿碧绿的圣诞树，经济好的有好多棵，圣诞树上挂着一件件精美的礼物，还邦着一个艺术无与伦比的大蝴蝶结。有兴趣的人们还可以穿着圣诞老人的衣服当夜幕降临人们都睡时，拿着一大袋一玩具小玩意儿小东西小零食，悄悄地一家一家送去。还可以把自己的一些要好的朋友约到家里一起过个圣诞派对，自己精心准备一些小东西，虽然是不值钱的，但是这才是真正无价的友谊;一起做一顿还意思的饭，他来问做好没，他说快了，然后西红柿就砸在了他的脸上;一起装饰屋子，他说凳子再往右点，他刚一出手，他就站不稳了;一起打打闹闹，几个房间都是满满的人，他把枕头打在他脸上，他又将鸡蛋打在他脸上……

大人们也玩的日日夜夜，在外面与同学们讨论心事自己的喜怒哀乐酸甜苦辣，与曾知心交心的朋友谈心……

圣诞节，如果变得这样轰轰烈烈，那么圣诞节将是人们最欢迎的一个节日!

Christmas DayChristmas Day falls on the twenty-fifth of December. It is a very happy day for many boys and girls . Before the term ends in some schools , the children act a nativity① or “birth” play, showing how Jesus② was born in a stable③。

On the twenty-fourth of December, all children are very excited. Usually they are sent to bed early so that their parents can get the presents ready. the younger children think that Father Christmas will come down the chimney or fireplace , so they hang up a sock for him to put presents in. the GREedy ones even hang up a pillow-case④ or a sack⑤ to try to get more presents. Later that night, Father or Mother will put presents in the sock, and leave others at the side of the bed. On Christmas morning, the children wake up very early. Some even turn on the light at two oclock, and most of them are awake by six oclock although it is not light in England for another hour or two at this time of the year.Children look for their presents , and the young ones play while the dinner is prepared. At about one oclock in the afternoon, the Christmas dinner is brought in . the turkey or chicken is quickly eaten . Children search in their Christmas pudding for new coins which are hidden in it . the rest of the day is full of games and eating until the happiest of all Christmas hollidays comes to an end.

My happy Spring Festival After the New Year’s Eve dinner with my family, we began to sit down in front of the TV, and enjoyed 2015 CCTV Spring Festival gala. At about ten o’clock, the black sky was lightened by lots of fireworks with colorful light and happy sound. We stop watching the CCTV 2015 CCTV Spring Festival gala, and began to climb up the balcony to see the beautiful fireworks view, and my father took some fireworks up, and we also began to play fireworks. What a beautiful night. Later, my cell phone was ringing all the time. I received lots of short messages from my friends and classmates. They all blessed me happy New Year. I gave same bless to them by sending back the happy words. At almost 12 pm, I made a wish in New Year, and began to sleep. When I woke up in the first day of New Year, my father and mother gave two red packets to me, and blessed me that everything will go well on me. I thanked them, and accepted the red packets happily. I have been waiting for the day that I can get lots of red packets. This is my happiest time of the year. After lunch, both my family went to the park, the streets, and the shops or supermarkets. I was too happy to count how many red packets I got. The following days, we visited my grandparents and some of relatives.
