The story of a mans lifelong obsession with whales has won the ￡20,000 BBC Samuel Johnson Prize for non-fiction.

Leviathan, Or The Whale, traces British author Philip Hoares fascination with the marine mammal, which he calls "a living thing past our comprehension".

As he travels the world in pursuit of the creature, he compares his findings to Herman Melvilles Moby Dick. US journalist Jacob Weisberg, who led the panel, said Hoares passion for his subject was infectious. The authors prose "rises to the condition of literature", he added.

我像是要完成什么神圣使命似的，心里嘣嘣直跳。我深深地吸了一口气，又吐出来，定了定神，然后点燃了煤气炉，坐上锅。突然我想起葱花还没切呢，又赶紧去切葱花，就在我切葱花的时候，油已经冒起烟来，而且越来越大，我慌忙抓起一捧茄子倒进锅里，又把葱花，一些五香粉，一股脑全撒进锅里，随后便用铲子把茄子翻来翻去。烟压下去了，可那些茄子块好象故意跟我做对。我想往左翻，它却往右溜，我想往右翻，它却朝左跑，有的茄子块可能嫌锅里太热了，还老想往锅外跳!有一块茄子趁我没注意，竟然蹦了起来，嘣”地一声，差点儿崩倒我身上。嗬，好家伙，真没想到茄子还会跳高”，都快成运动员”了，俗话说的好急中生智，我灵机一动，不翻了，改用铲子压。这一压，果真见效，茄子们都服服帖帖地了。我又往锅里放了半勺盐，倒了一些水，用围裙擦了一把头上的汗，赶紧跑到楼下小铺买了几个馒头。待我回来时往锅里一看呀!茄子已经烧糊了!此时，什么饿呀、累呀，全忘记了，只剩了一个字急，哎没办法，我只能将错就错把黑茄子端上了桌。，可是没想到的是妈妈竟说很好吃，我格外诧异，不过看看妈妈脸上的欣慰我已不觉得有什么了。

黄老师喜欢唱歌和收集海报。她钢琴弹得很好。晚上，她常常坐在钢琴前弹奏优美的乐曲。黄老师跳舞也很棒。有时她也会教我们跳舞。

consider my parents as the most important people in my life. This is not because

they’re wealthy or famous. Rather, what I value about most is the care and love

they show to me.

My

parents might work hard, but they’re always there for me. Whenever I get into

trouble and desperately need a hand, they come over first to support me and

encourage me. I grew up with their constant care and love. While they’re getting

older with grey hair and wrinkles, they never lose dignity in both life and

jobs.

From

my parents, I have learned that one person can really make a difference. I’ll

never forget their care and love. Gratefulness brings a great fullness to life.

I wish they could always be happy and healthy. It is high time we expressed our

gratitude to people we cherish!
