它主要讲述了猎人们怎样打猎。如果猎人要打勾嘴鹬的话，会选择在黄昏时打他们，并会先打雌的(前提是一对勾嘴鹬夫妇)。这样雄的勾嘴鹬就会为找不到自己的妻子而发愁，这时，猎人就扔起自己的黑帽子。雄勾嘴鹬以为那是自己的妻子，于是就俯冲下来，这时，猎人再开枪把勾嘴鹬打死。
