一、英语写作的特点.

The characteristics of formal writing

1.名词化趋势

I do not eat much.-->I am a light eater.

The clock on the desk reminds me of time.-->I put a clock on the desk as a reminder of time.

We once cried, laughed and disappointed.-->There were moments of tears, moments of laughter, and moments of disappointment.

注意:名词化趋势的句子当然还有动词, 目的是尽量把表达句子中心意思的那个词汇用名词表达.符合英文的习惯.

2.无灵主语(区别于被动语态)

我们中文写作中,习惯以人做主语,而英文则相反,习惯以物做主格.

More and more young students studied further in the past two decades.

-->The past two decades witnessed a growing number of young students for further study.

Looking out of the window, you will have a nice view.

-->A glance out of the window offers you a nice view.

注意: 名词化趋势和无灵主语常常是相结合的.

3.被动语态

这一点大家比较熟悉,不详细讲.比如:

Main features of English sentences:

1.长短句结合

Love is patient and kind. It is never jealous, boastful, proud or rude. It keeps no record of wrong that others do. It always protects, always fruits, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails.

一般来讲,总结性的句子应当使用短句,而说理的句子应用长句.

2.并列复合句

这种句子属于十分难写的句子,也举一个例子:

He who wants to save his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for me will save it.

3.单一复合句

也就是我们常说的各种从句,不再举例.

三、Variety of sentences:

1. ”-ing & -ed” groups

e.g.

2. ”to do” groups

4.介词短语

In pursuit of, in spite of (注意平时自己的收集)

e.g.

5.主语从句

e.g.

What China needs is not more morals, but more prisons for politicians.

句子的变化还有 It is self-evident(adj) that…….和There be 这样的句子

6.倒装

(1)将一些否定性含义的副词和短语在句首,用倒装会使句子生色不少.

Never before has such a high standard been achieved.

Hardly had he arrived when she started complaining.

(2)为使描绘更加生动,与介词同形的副词可以移动到句首,而把主语放到谓语后面去.

Following the roar, out rushed a tiger from the bushes.

四、插入语

插入语可以是一个小词,也可以是一个同谓语的形式.

1.先看一个小技巧：(对there be 句型均有效)

There is, recently, a debate amongst educators that……

通俗的讲,在老外眼里,主语与谓语离的越远,句子的档次越高.

2.插入语后面再接上一个定语从句;

Direct experience, a necessary means to recognize the world, which differs from knowledge acquired from books, is a major step to the cognitive world.

再看几个同谓语从句的例子:

我不羡慕别人长得那么漂亮，不羡慕别人的东西有多好，因为我也有我的骄傲。

令我最骄傲的就是我的体育非常好，我跑步的速度是女生中最快的，在班上也是数一数二。记得有一次我要参加400米跑步，这是有史以来第一次参加400米长跑，经过我飞快的奔跑，果然功夫不负有心人，我是年级女子组的第一名。

Tomorrow is March 8th. It is Womens Day, so I want to give my mother a surprise. First I am going to the supermarket and buy something , such as vegetables , fruits and some beautiful flowers. “一、二、三、四……”响亮的口号声在一附校园的上空久久回荡。我们站在和爱大道上，一个个喊着口号，站得笔直，神情严肃。

我们身着校服，脚蹬浅色运动鞋，一个个严阵以待。以前都是小打小闹，现在可是动真格的了。

“跑步，走！”随着体育老师的一声令下，跑操比赛正式拉开帷幕。同学们“唰”地一声抬起双臂，把双臂钳在腰间，个个如同紧绷的弓一般，一触即发，队伍如同一条长龙一般步入操场。

瞧，施陈远完美地演绎着“行如风”的真谛，只见他目光炯炯，双唇紧闭，双臂紧紧的贴着腰，好像他的腰有一股强磁力一般，不管他的速度是快还是慢，动作依然维持不变，手臂紧紧贴着腰，不移动一丝一毫。他的肩膀随着他跑步时的节奏上下耸动着，双脚也随着“左右左”的节奏跑动着，没有一星半点的偏差。

看到他那认真努力的样子，我也加紧了步伐。可是，我的脚如同灌了铅一般，双手也渐渐失去了知觉，脑海里浮现出“放弃”的字眼，但那排山倒海般的口号声让我的脑袋清醒了一点，我想到了在烈日下挥汗如雨的我们，一个念头支撑着我，“我不能放弃，我不能被打败，我一定要坚持下去。”于是，我咬着牙，拼着一股劲跑向终点。

我的父亲个子矮小，身材偏瘦，外表看起来很凶，有着一双可怕的眼睛，有点“坏人”的感觉。但我却一点也不怕他，经常和他对着干。我的多次叛逆，深深的刺痛了父亲的心，但他从来就没有放弃过我。

都说父爱如山，母爱如水，我对这句话的感触是非常深的。因为我的父亲是一个十分严厉的人，每当我犯了什么错误他就会打我一顿或者骂我一顿，然后母亲会来安慰我。这是我父亲严厉的一面，也是我最恨的一面。可是，事情总是会改变的，我对父亲的态度也在改变。

要买苹果，需穿过小巷，那小巷里有一道墙。父亲个子本就不高，还要爬过那一堵墙才能买到苹果。看着父亲笨拙的动作，想起自己在以前学校翻墙外出矫健的身姿，我的心里感到无比的惭愧。当我再看向小巷时，父亲已经提着一袋苹果回来了，我赶紧拭干眼泪，怕别人看见，也怕父亲看见。

以前，我们班里有一同学学习成绩差；但它很虚心，老师讲讲课她都很认真的听；我们班也有一个同学学习成绩很好，每天都很自以者是，很骄傲，上课不好好好听讲。

I went to visit my grandparents last August. They lived in a small village far from Shenyang. I was born there ten years ago. I remembered it had been a poor place before.
