我在网上查了一下，据说，两千多年前的西汉时候，周勃、陈平铲平“诸吕之乱”，汉文帝登基的这天正是正月十五。以后，每年这一天的晚上，他都要出宫游玩，“与民同乐”，以示庆祝。因“夜”在古语中又叫“宵”，正月又称元月，汉文帝便将正月十五定为元宵节。

这天晚上，举国上下都要张灯结彩欢度元元宵”作为食品，在我国也由来已久。宋代，民间即流行一种元宵节吃的新奇食品。这种食品，用各种果饵作馅，外面裹以糯米粉滚成丸子，煮熟后，吃起来香甜可口，饶有风趣。因为这种糯米丸子在锅中时浮时沉，所以最早叫“浮元子”，后来有人又改称为“元宵”，古时人们又称“元宵”为汤团、圆子或者粉果，生意人还美其名曰“元宝”。
