The Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year is a great occasion to the Chinese people. It lasts about the first four days of the year， during which people do not work except for the workers on duty. Students do not go to school， and shops are closed.

Several days before the new year， people begin to prepare. Farmers kill pigs， sheep， cocks and hens. City dwellers buy meat fish and vegetables.  Houses are cleaned； coupletsare posted on the doors. Colourful lanterns are hung at the gate.

On the eve of the new year， each family has its members gatherd together and eats a family reunion dinner. After the meal they watch TV until the clock strickes twelve. The Spring Festival,also known as the Lunar New Year, is the greatest traditional festival. It is usually a time between late January or early February, which means rest and relaxation between winter and spring after a years toil,and means celebration as well. Before the Spring Festival, people clean their houses, put red couplets on their gates,and set off firecrackers, according to fairy tale, for driving a demon ,named Nian ,away. On the eve of the Spring Festival, a gettogether banquet is a must, and the most popular food is Jiaozi, which is supposed to bring good fortune.On the first day of the new year, everybody wears new clothes and greets relatives and friends with bows and congratulations wishingeach other the best during the new year.

Things Happened in Spring Festival Today, I went shopping with my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. In china if you invite people for meal, the person who invited other people would pay for the meal but it’s not the way in Western country. In western country people will think you only invited me but it’s not your responsibility to pay for me.

I can afford it. They won’t be happy if you pay for them. People in China would always put dishes into customer’s plate to show their hospitality, but they will think it’s not healthy because your chopsticks have been used by you. In western country like America not England, people will always give tips to waiter after they finished meal in a restaurant.

If you don’t they will not be happy because tips are one of their major income. In china this only happen in some top restaurants and hotels in large international cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Western people will also think you are rude if you make sound during the meal. Western people do not hold their bowl up even when they have a bowl of soup.

Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays。 It is sometimes called the "Lunar New Year" by English speakers。 The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival。 Chinese New Years Eve is known as chú xī。 It literally means "Year-pass Eve"。

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Lunar Calendar。 The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions。 Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most。

Celebrated in areas with large populations of ethnic Chinese， Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors， as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction。 These include Koreans (Seollal)， Tibetans and Bhutanese (Losar)， Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar)， Vietnamese (T?t)， and formerly the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu)。 Outside of Mainland China， Hong Kong， Macau， and Taiwan， Chinese New Year is also celebrated in countries with significant Han Chinese populations， such as Singapore， Indonesia， Laos， Malaysia， the Philippines， and Thailand。 In countries such as Australia， Canada and the United States， although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday， many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Australia Post， Canada Post， and the US Postal Service issues New Years themed stamps。

Within China， regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely。 People will pour out their money to buy presents， decoration， material， food， and clothing。 It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good ining luck。 Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of “happiness”， “wealth”， and “longevity”。 On the Eve of Chinese New Year， supper is a feast with families。 Food will include such items as pigs， ducks， chicken and sweet delicacies。 The family will end the night with firecrackers。 Early the next morning， children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year， and receive money in red paper envelopes。 The Chinese New Year tradition is a great way to reconcile forgetting all grudges， and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone。

Although the Chinese calendar traditionally does not use continuously numbered years， outside China its years are often numbered from the reign of Huangdi。 But at least three different years numbered 1 are now used by various scholars， making the year 2009 "Chinese Year" 4707， 4706， or 4646。

除夕那天真热闹，家家赶做年菜，到处是酒肉的香味。男女老少都穿起新衣，门外贴上了红红的对联，屋里贴好了各色的年画。除夕夜家家灯火通宵，不许间断，鞭炮声日夜不绝。在外边做事的人除非万不得已，必定赶回家来吃团圆饭。这一夜，除了很小的孩子，没有什么人睡觉都要守岁。春节的光景与除夕那天截然不同：铺户都上着板子，门前堆着昨夜燃放的爆竹纸皮，全城都在休息。男人们午前到亲戚家朋友家拜年。女人们在家中接待客人。城内城外许多寺院举办庙会，小贩们在庙外摆摊卖茶，食品和各种玩具。小孩子们特别爱逛庙会，为的是有机会到城外看看野景，可以骑毛驴，还能买到新年特有的玩具。庙会上有赛马的，还有赛骆驼的。这些比赛并不为争谁第一谁第二，而是在观众面前表演马，骆驼与骑者的美好姿态与娴熟技能。“嘭”天空中五颜六色的。原来每年必放的烟花开始了，家家户户都把自家最美的烟花放上了天空，烟花在黑色的夜空中绽开来，一个比一个光彩夺目，天空中似乎正在举行一场选美比赛。

美极了！所有人顿时停留在了那一刻，只听到烟花绽放时的惊叹声，大人们脸上露出了童真的笑容，开始回忆起自己的美好童年。同时，我们都悄悄许了愿望：希望今年我能以一个优秀的成绩考上一座中学！新的一年，新的开始。希望今年六年级的同学都一齐努力，用一个好成绩来创造自己的未来。

I don t like it now， there are many reasons.

Firstly，I can t have a good time during the Festival.

Every New Year s Eve something unpleasant often happens.

Once I quarreled with my second brother.

Secondly，I can t relax myself during the Festival.

I have to do many things，watch so many TV programmes， meet so many people，all these things make me very tired.

Thirdly，spending one Spring Festival means that I become one year older，I don t like to be old.

I want to live longer and be young all the time.
