When I was a small child, I usually thought it was a good luck to be sick in bed. You see, when you are ill, you can stay home. There is no need to finish so much homework. Your parents will take care of you. Besides there is always something good to eat. Isnt it enjoyable to eat so much nice food?

A week ago, I was really in hospital. It was painful for me to stay in bed for several days. I couldnt get up. I couldnt even move. I didnt want to eat anything though there was a lot before me. It was cooler than yesterday. One of my father’s friends invited me to eat red bayberries. You must know it is unusual. Because we will climb the hill to eat red bayberries. There is no chance to eat red bayberries in the hill for the people who don’t live in Beijing. On the hill, you can breathe the fresh air, you can listen birds singing and you can eat red bayberries. It was enjoyable. It is said there are wild pigs in the hill. What a beautiful natural.

Chinese. In fact, it s more than 6 000 kilometres long. It winds its way from

west to east, across deserts, over mountains, through valleys till at last it

reaches the sea.It is one of the wonders of the world.The Great Wall has a history of over twenty centuries. The first part of it

was built during the Spring and Autumn Period.

During the Warring States Period, more walls were put up to defend the

To keep the enemy out of his empire, Emperor Qin Shi Huang had all the

side by side.Along the wall are watchtowers, where soldiers used to keep watch.Fires were lit on the the towers as a warning when the enemy came.It was very difficult to build such a wall in the ancient days without any

modern machines.

All the work was done by hand. Thousands of men died and were buried under

the wall they built. The Great Wall was made not only of stone and earth, but of

the flesh and blood of millions of men.

Today the Great Wall has become a place of interest not only to the Chinese

but to people from all over the world. Many of them have come to know the famous

Chinese saying: "He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man."

Seeing the low marks on the school report and remcmbering mothers cold face, I almost trembled with fear. lf mother know I got so low marks oa the subjects, especially English, she would tear all my cartoon books which are my fovourite. I have been treating them as my own life for a long time. But mother always thought cartoon diverted my attention from study and had a bad effect on me. Frankly speaking, I had realized it. Mother hated those books. She had warned me if I got low marks once more she would get rid of them. I Still wanted to keep those books even if I would mever touch them from then on. What should I do? I knew that any persuation was in vain. I would prevent mother from doing that.

A good idea stroke me. I gathered all the books and put them in a box. Then, I hid the box under my bed. Having done it carefully, I had a breathing spell.

Opening the English book, I sat at the desk and began to read. It was really the time that I learned English carefully, I thought.
