Several days before the new year， people begin to prepare. Farmers kill pigs， sheep， cocks and hens. City dwellers buy meat fish and vegetables.  Houses are cleaned； coupletsare posted on the doors. Colourful lanterns are hung at the gate.

On the eve of the new year， each family has its members gatherd together and eats a family reunion dinner. After the meal they watch TV until the clock strickes twelve. 大年二十九，爸爸妈妈上完一年中的最后一天班，我们一家就连夜赶到了位于皖北宿州市的姥姥家。因为在这里有一项很重要的一个习俗，春节前夕，人们都会准备好贡品祭祀已故的亲人，表示对他们的怀念，并希望他们保佑自己一家人在新的一年一帆风顺。

贴春联自然是必不可少的一项任务，大家要在大家三十的早上，在门两旁贴上寓意吉祥的春联，会给节日带来喜庆之气。春联的一个源头是桃符。最初人们以桃木刻人形挂在门旁以避邪，后来门神像画于桃木上，再简化为在桃木板上题写门神名字，后来改写在纸上。桃木的颜色是红的，红色有吉祥，避邪的意思，因此春联大都用红纸书写。但是在皖北，如果在这一年中家中有人去世，就不能贴大红纸写的春联了，只能在门芯处贴上A4大小的白纸，或者什么也不贴。第二年可以贴黄色的春联，第三年是紫色的纸联，第四年丧服满才恢复用红纸。

在贴春联的同时，北方人还注重贴门神，听姥姥说，最初的门神是刻桃木为人形，挂在人的旁边，后来是画成门神人像张贴于门。传说中有神荼、郁垒兄弟二人专门管鬼，有他们守住门户，大小恶鬼不敢入门为害。唐代以后，又有画猛将秦琼、尉迟敬德二人像为门神的，还有画关羽、张飞像为门神的。门神像左右户各一张，现在常把一对门神画成一文一武。

采购年货是我最喜欢的一点，面对着琳琅满目的商品，我和表弟自然是飞奔到最爱的零食区，美味的巧克力，香甜的饼干，诱人的薯片……一点点地搬运到购物车上。大人们也买好了各种蔬菜，鸡鸭鱼肉和红枣糕。足以让我们大饱口福。

皖北的年夜饭必须在大年三十中午十二点之前完成。在古代，过了正午还没有吃上年饭都是揭不开锅的穷苦人家，所以在一年中的最后一天，忙忙碌碌一年的人们想方设法也要吃上一顿饱饭，而对于饿了一年的人们来说，早一点吃饱代表着下一年都能吃饱穿暖。现在这个习俗一直在延续，往往才九、十点钟，就有手脚麻利的主妇做了满满一大桌子美味佳肴。

年三十的晚上，要吃扁食。这是一种像元宝一样的食品，里面包上韭菜、鸡蛋等素食，既和中午的大鱼大肉营养搭配，也是寓意来年发财的意思。

大家初一吃饺子，“更岁交子”之意，“子”为“子时”，交与“饺”谐音，有“喜庆团圆”和“吉祥如意”的意思。

皖北的春节要一直过到正月十五元宵节才算结束，在这里，正月十五还有一个独特的习俗—蒸面灯。十五这天，早早的，妈妈们便用豆面揉好面焖在锅中，到了下午，面发起后，开始捏一个个小面灯。手巧的人家还会捏出龙灯灯、鸡灯灯、兔子灯等生肖灯。

把捏好的面灯放进锅里蒸，蒸完后，有的面灯窝窝里有蒸馏水，有的很多，有的少，还有的却干干净净，滴水不见？据说，这是个很灵验的预言呢，存水的那个月份灯会被认为代表着来年那个月份里一定雨水充沛，水多的可能会有涝情，水少的当然就代表干旱了。

把面灯里放上香油，用棉线做出捻子，点亮的面灯好漂亮！我们会端着灯在屋子里四处照照，照到的地方毒虫、臭虫什么的就都不敢出来了。大人们还会用灯在我们小孩子的全身上下照上一照，说是一年内保管百病全无，吉祥如意。面灯点着可不能吹灭哟，要让它自己燃尽，因为红红的灯火代表着我们的生活会越来越旺，越来越红火。
